Triumph Engineering is a world renowned pioneer in motorcycle manufacturing of UK since 1902 and when it was went into receivership in 1983, John Bloor established a new company out of it with the name of Bonneville Coventry Ltd. in 1984, continuing Triumph's legacy and carrying its success. The company has now become Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. while still leading UK's motorcycle market with its current headquarters in Hinckley, Leicestershire, UK.
Company has planned to start an operational facility in Karnataka soon and has got one at Manesar, Haryana. Their first two dealerships will be starting their operation in Hyderabad and Bangalore by December 2013 and in Mumbai and Delhi by January 2014. They will also open five more viz. Kolkata, Pune, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Chennai by March 2014, thus starting with a total of nine dealerships in India. Some models will be manufactured at Manesar and the rest will be imported from their plants of UK and Thailand. Triumph Tiger Explorer is a dual sport motorcycle which was first announced at EICMA in November 2011.
Design and Style
Triumph Tiger Explorer has got a beautiful design with some really extraordinary and smart moves to show. It has a tall stature and a front fender with a pointed beak, an open and fully exposed tubular steel trellis frame, switchable ABS, cruise control and traction control, a ride-by-wire throttle system, shaft final drive, adjustable seat height with 837mm as the lowest and 857mm as the highest,adjustable windscreen, a lockable and large under seat storage area, a 10-spoke cast aluminium alloy wheels of 19-inch at front and 17-inch at rear, a side-mounted stainless steel 3 into 1 silencer, a coded key immobilizer system, large grab handles, a 12V power socket near the ignition switch for a GPS unit or heated clothing, an incredible 222kgs of payload capacity, a 950W-powered alternator with optional heated grips, spotlights and seats, an instrument display having a LCD with a digital speedometer, analogue tachometer, a gear position indicator, range to empty, fuel gauge, clock, service indicator, frost warning, air temperature, a trip computer, hazard warning lights and a tire pressure monitoring system.
Dimensions and Weight
This fabulous bike has a length of 2248mm, a width of 885mm and a height of 1410mm as its dimensions along with a large wheelbase of 1530mm for a stable ride and great cornering. It has a rake and a trail of 23.9-degrees and 105.5mm respectively along with a fuel tank capacity of 20 litres and a wet weight of 259kgs.
Engine and Gearbox
Triumph Tiger Explorer has a 1215cc, in-line three-cylinders, 12-valves, liquid-cooled, DOHC based engine with a maximum power of 135.1 bhp at 9300 rpm and a maximum torque of 121 Nm at 6400 rpm and is mated with a 6-speed gearbox transmission with shaft final drive. It has got a bore and a stroke of 85mm and 71.4mm respectively, a ride by wire fuel injection system, wet multi-plate clutch and an oil capacity of 4.2 litres.
Suspension and Braking System
The suspension system consists of Kayaba 46mm telescopic forks at front with an extended travel of 190mm at front and Kayaba single shock absorber with a travel of 194mm, adjustable rebound damping and a hydraulic remote preload adjuster. The braking system includes Nissin 4-piston callipers and twin 305mm disk brakes at front while 2-piston sliding callipers and a single 282mm disk brake at rear. It has also got a single-sided cast aluminium alloy swing arm. Its genuine accessories includes a complete arrow exhaust, an aluminium radiator guard, a CNC machined GPS mounting kit, quick release polycarbonate headlight guards, aluminium skid plate, engine crash guards, high-powered halogen fog lights with crash guards, 60 litres side panniers, an adventure top box with 35liters capacity, a tank bag and many more.
