Ducati Multistrada 1200 Review
Quick Review by Maxabout Team
Ducati Multistrada is a sports touring bike which is globally popular for its commendable touring abilities on any terrain. What makes this bike so popular? Let’s find out.
Design and Style
The new age Multistrada features twin LED headlights with parking lights. The bike has a stylish cowl with an integrated transparent visor. This cowl is attached to the fuel tank of this bike. Its adjustable visor which has been designed really well makes it look like a touring bike. The black colored pointed nose of this bike gives it an eagle look. This nose gets integrated with the body colored engine side cover. Ducati has mounted its black colored rear view mirrors on the handle bar of this bike while the LED side indicators are integrated in the hand guards. The bike has a dual tone front fender which partly covers the front beefy forks of Multistrada. The bike shares its 10-spoke sport rims with its elder sibling, 1199 Panigale. Multistrada has an engine cowl which suits the black color theme on this bike. The bike has a stretched side panel which gives it an aerodynamic look along with its split seats. The low positioned silencer also complements the look of Multistrada. The naked chain sprocket and fatty rear tyre adds visual charm to this bike. Its high positioned tail section has a tail light and black colored grab rail. The number plate and side indicators are placed on its compact but extended rear fender.
Instrument Console
Multistrada is equipped with a futuristic digital instrument console. There is a big LCD in its dashboard which displays the digital speedometer, trip-meter, odometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. The right side of this instrument panel is stuffed with many essential LED indicators. The LCD also informs you about the DTC level, service reminder, gear position, temperature level etc.
Engine and Gearbox
This new Multistrada uses L-twin cylinder 1198.4cc engine. It’s an 8 valve, Dual spark, liquid cooled engine which produces a maximum torque output of 124.5Nm at 7500rpm. Its power output of 150bhp arrives at 9250rpm. Ducati serves this engine with a six-speed manual gearbox with a gear shift pattern of one gear down and five gears up-shift.
Acceleration and Performance
This engine has been specially engineered to give you powerful long journeys. The bike never suffocates for power and can go all the way to 250km/hr. The high amount of torque confirms that you avoid frequent gear shifting and enjoy stress free city rides. Despite having taller gear ratios, the bike offers a magnificent throttle response. Its torque starts coming as early as 2000rpm which enhances the city performance of this bike. You can reach 0-100km/hr in less than 4 seconds and you will be pleased the way this bike does it. This engine performs seriously after 4000rpm and gives you a thrilling performance. This twin cylinder engine shows no sign of harshness and vibrations. The engine sound of this bike prompts you to rev this bike hard. The well-spaced gear ratios also ease your work while you are busy in opening the throttle of this bike. The 150 bhp of power is truly enjoyable when you push this bike beyond 8000rpm mark. The high refined engine proves to be a big challenge for its other competitors.
Mileage
The fuel efficiency of this bike may vary from 12-15km/ltr.
Comfort while Driving
Ducati has made sure that you enjoy maximum comfort on this bike while you are on long journeys. Its full size seat feels well stuffed as it can easily hold you for long hours. The high positioned handle bar also offers you firm grip of this bike while your knees can stick around its spacious fuel tank. The bike is stuffed with new features like height adjustable visor, hands free ignition and two 12V power outlets which enhance the level of your comfort while driving this bike. Multistrada is surely a comfortable tourer bike.
Storage Space and Safety Features
The regular variant of Multistrada offers under seat storage space and roomy glove compartment in the right panel. The other variant of this bike comes with additional luggage system which is only to carry your luggage properly on long trips. For your safety, the LED headlights of this bike are capable enough to give you bright view of roads at nights.
Suspension and Brakes
Ducati has used an extremely powerful suspension and braking system in new Multistrada. It features fully adjustable 50mm front forks and fully adjustable rear Sachs mono shock with single side swing arm. The front twin brakes of 320mm come with radially mounted 4-piston brake callipers while its single rear disc brake of 245mm has 2-piston calliper. ABS and Ducati Traction Control (DTC) are standard part of the braking system of Multistrada and helps you to precisely stop this bike.
Ride and Handling
With DTC, you can play with the ride quality of this bike. It adjusts as per your need and gives you amazing ride and handling. It has a wheelbase of 1530mm which brings stability to this touring machine. The bike handles gently in city traffic while it’s a treat to drive this bike on highways. You can also alter the brake settings of this bike. The ground clearance of this bike depends upon its variants but all of them have the ability to perform off road. It has a very effective suspension system which gives you amazing confidence. Multistrada is nimble and enthusiastic on every terrain.
Tyre Size, Shades and Variants
The bike has R17 sizes of tyres. Multistrada is available in four variants and two shades.
Verdict
Ducati Multistrada ranges from INR 20.96- 25.79lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). The bike is even costlier than Toyota Fortuner, a four wheel drive SUV. Undoubtedly, the bike is extremely pricey and at this price you can’t much talk about the worthiness of a bike. Its powerful engine, superb handling and comfort make it an unmatchable tourer bike but it’s only for few rich people who can afford this much to enjoy exclusive weekend trips on this bike.
