Looks promising
Summary
The R7’s handling is even sportier than its loo
The R7’s handling is even sportier than its looks suggest, with a lean angle of up to 51 degrees being achievable thanks to the revised suspension setup. The KYB upside down forks are fully adjustable for rebound and compression, with a cast aluminium top yoke and forged aluminium bottom. This, combined with the 5mm closer to the steering stem and 20mm wider than the MT-07’s setup, gives the R7 an impressive level of feel and stability when cornering.
The shock’s rising rate linkage also helps to lift the rear wheel for a sportier stance while providing adjustability for preload and rebound damping. The wheelbase is also reduced by 5mm to 1395mm, which further enhances the cornering capability. Overall, the R7 offers an incredible level of agility and confidence when tackling tight turns and twisties.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Yamaha YZF-R7
The Yamaha YZF-R7 is one of the most anticipated sports motorcycles launching in India in late 2025. Designed for riders seeking a blend of performance, style, and everyday usability, the R7 fills the gap between Yamaha’s entry-level R3 and the high-performance R9, bringing Japanese engineering and sporty flair to Indian roads.
Yamaha YZF-R7 Engine and Performance
At the heart of the Yamaha YZF-R7 is a 689 cc parallel-twin CP2 engine—the same proven powerplant used in the popular MT-07 series. This liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-stroke engine is tuned for strong mid-range torque and a smooth, predictable power delivery. Globally, it delivers about 72 bhp at 8,600 rpm and 67 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, numbers expected to be mirrored in the Indian variant.
The bike’s 6-speed gearbox, assist-and-slipper clutch, and lightweight chassis promise a sharp, engaging ride. While the R7 may not deliver the top-end rush of an inline-four, its strong torque means rapid acceleration from low to mid speeds, making it particularly enjoyable on city roads and twisty highways.
Yamaha YZF-R7 Design and Styling
The R7’s design is unmistakably sporty, drawing inspiration from Yamaha’s YZF-R-series DNA. It features full LED lighting, including a distinctive single projector headlamp and aggressive fairing lines that enhance both aesthetics and aerodynamics. The upswept exhaust, exposed trellis subframe, and compact tail section further emphasize its racing roots.
Rider ergonomics strike a balance between aggressive sportbike positioning and everyday comfort, making the R7 suitable for both spirited weekend rides and regular commutes. The split seat and stepped cowl add a premium touch, while the twin analog dials (with a small LCD multi-information display) provide essential riding data clearly and efficiently.
Yamaha YZF-R7 Chassis and Handling
Built around a diamond steel frame, the YZF-R7 boasts a nimble, responsive chassis. Upside-down (USD) front forks from KYB and a rear monoshock with spring preload adjustment offer sporty handling, making the bike agile through corners. The 120/70ZR17 front and 180/55ZR17 rear tires, paired with lightweight alloy wheels, further enhance grip and stability.
Braking performance comes from dual 298 mm front discs with radial-mount 4-piston calipers and a single 245 mm rear disc—ensuring strong, controlled stopping power. Dual-channel ABS is standard, providing added safety during spirited riding.
Yamaha YZF-R7 Features and Technology
While the R7 may not be loaded with advanced electronics, it focuses on core essentials that enhance the riding experience. The assist-and-slipper clutch reduces lever effort and prevents rear-wheel hop during aggressive downshifts. Standard features include LED lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a traction control system for added confidence on varied road surfaces.
Riders can also expect a user-friendly interface, but don’t look for multiple ride modes or a quick-shifter as standard—this bike channels Yamaha’s “no-nonsense” sportsbike philosophy.
Yamaha YZF-R7 India Launch and Expected Price
The YZF-R7 is set to debut in India in October–December 2025. Expected to be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit), the bike is likely to carry an ex-showroom price just under ₹10 lakh, placing it between the R3 and upcoming R9. Bookings are expected to open in late 2025, with deliveries starting soon after.
Yamaha YZF-R7 India Rivals and Positioning
In India, the YZF-R7 will attract buyers seeking a practical sports bike with global appeal. Key rivals include the Honda CBR650R, Kawasaki Ninja 650, and Suzuki GSX-8R. The R7’s combination of a charismatic engine, sharp handling, and Yamaha’s brand cachet should make it a strong contender for riders upgrading from 300–400 cc sportsbikes.
Yamaha YZF-R7: The Right Bike?
The Yamaha YZF-R7 is ideal for riders who want authentic sports bike thrills without the complexity and cost of a 1,000 cc superbike. With its sporty design, lively parallel-twin engine, and accessible handling, it promises to be a compelling choice for those seeking a blend of performance and practicality on Indian roads. If Yamaha prices it competitively and supports it with strong after-sales, the R7 could become a popular pick for enthusiasts wanting a true-blue sports bike experience without compromises.

The R7 is a great bike for those that want to have fun without having to worry about going too fast. It offers a smooth, comfortable ride without sacrificing any power. The engine is powerful enough to get you up to speed quickly, but not so powerful that you have to worry about losing control. It's perfect for those that want to enjoy the thrill of riding without having to worry about going too fast. The handling is tight and responsive, allowing you to carve through the corners at speed. The brakes are strong and reliable, ensuring you have the confidence to push the limits. The Yamaha R7 is the perfect bike for those who want to have some fun without having to worry about getting into too much trouble.
If you're looking for ultimate stopping power and feel, then the R7's brakes might not be for you. Yamaha's ABS set-up is certainly functional, but it lacks the powerful, responsive feel of more advanced braking systems. However, the chassis is a dream to ride and the engine is an absolute gem. With a smooth power delivery and plenty of torque, the R7 is an incredibly capable sports bike. Perfect for those looking for a bike that can handle a twisty road with ease, the Yamaha R7 is an impressive machine.
The R7 is a great bike to ride for those who want the performance of a sports bike, but don't want to sacrifice comfort. The clip-ons are low enough to keep the front end light but not too extreme, the pegs are high enough to avoid scraping, and the seat is 15mm lower than the old R6. The bike also offers great wind protection, and the mirrors are effective.
Do you guys think Yamaha should launch the R7 in India as a CKD model to compete with the likes of the Kawasaki Ninja 650?
