If there’s an aftermarket, anything can be modded. It might be more work than the RD350, but where there’s a will, there’s a way.

I'm optimistic. It's understandable, Yamaha knows their audience for this bike. Even if it's not as open as the old two-strokes, they'll probably build it with some kind of customization in mind.

Who cares about engine mods? Suspension upgrades will be the real fun. Now imagine this lightweight chassis with some high end bouncy bits!

Let's not forget about 3D printing. Yamaha could lock things down, but the community will always find a way to mod this bike that we can’t even think of yet.

No way. Modern bikes are too sanitized. You can't get the raw, on the edge feeling of a two stroke with today's tech.

I think it could, just in different ways. The spirit of the "Race Developed" today, however, is more about precision and control than raw power. The XSR300 could nail that.

It’s all about power to weight. They could still make a 300cc feel pretty racy in the right hands, if they keep it light enough.

It's more than that; it's the spirit of Race Developed. It’s about being connected to the bike. However works if Yamaha nails ergonomics and feedback.

Let’s be real, most of the time, riders never push their bikes to the limit. For the average joe the XSR300 will feel plenty 'racey'.

The sound will be the real test. Half the battle is won if they can make it sound exciting. A good exhaust note goes a long way, but nothing beats the wail of a two stroke.

It's not about outright speed. The way a bike corners and gives the "Race Developed" feel. If it’s flickable and confidence inspiring, it’ll nail the spirit.

It should probably handle like a dream. The XSR300 could be even better in the corners with some tweaks, the MT-03 chassis is solid.

I think it will surprise a lot of people. These days retro bikes can be proper handlers. Check out the Triumph Street Twin, it’s no slouch in the twisties.

With the upright riding position, it actually might have an advantage in tight, technical roads. Less aggressive ergonomics can sometimes give you more confidence.

I worry the retro styling may make the thing too heavy. It may make it less agile than more focused sport bikes.

It’s not just about the chassis. It will make a huge difference in tire choice. With good rubber from Yamaha, it could be a corner carver.
