How does the FZ1 Fazer stack up against modern naked Bikes such as the MT-10?
The FZ1 Fazer may no longer be available, but it still has its fans. Yet newer naked bikes like Yamaha's own MT 10 contain more advanced technology and much more performance. The result is debates about whether the older FZ1 can still hang with modern competitors. There is a conversation to be had about the more traditional inline four engine character of the FZ1 versus newer crossplane designs, electronics, suspension, and overall riding experience. The FZ1 has fans on both sides; some like the raw, analog feel, some like the refinement and features in the other models. It often amounts to talk of comfort on long rides, fun while handling the twisties, and general versatility.
Objectively, the MT 10 is better in almost every way, but the FZ1 has something that is special. It’s more raw and connected.
I've ridden both and the FZ1 is more than enough bike for the street. Unless you’re going to the track regularly, the MT-10 is overkill.
The MT-10 has way safer and easier electronics to ride fast. Traction control and riding modes are the game changers.
FZ1 all day. Easier to work on, simpler, and still plenty fast. On top of that, you can get one for a fraction of a price of a new MT 10.
The power delivery of the MT-10’s crossplane engine is much more exciting, and it sounds way better, too. The FZ1 feels a little bland by comparison.
The FZ1 Fazer I would take for touring. On long rides, the half fairing makes a big difference. It’s more of a hooligan machine.
They're different beasts. The FZ1 is a sport tourer, whereas the MT-10 is a straight up super naked. Depends on what you're after.
The FZ1 is no slouch, but the MT-10 might be faster. It's more comfortable, and it's still got way more performance than you can use on the street.
