How long term reliable is the MT09?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views8 comments
We have a good amount of data on the Yamaha MT-09’s long term reliability as it has been on the market since 2014. As a performance oriented bike, owners and potential buyers love to talk about how the bike holds up over time. Of interest are durability of the engine, common wear items, electrical system reliability, and how well the bike holds up to high mileage. Some discussion goes toward how to compare maintenance costs versus other bikes in its class, as well as what model years are reputed to be the most reliable. High mileage owners are particularly valued, and comparisons to the reliability of other popular naked bikes.

If you do oil changes and valve checks these things will run forever.

I've heard the quickshifter is bad on some bikes, but mine has been rock solid.

The Street Triple was, more reliable than my old. And less finicky about maintenance too.

Electrical gremlins appear to be rare, but when they do happen they can be a pain to track down.

The only common problem I've heard of is that the rear shock wears out prematurely on heavier riders.

Mine is 40,000 miles and I've had zero issues. It's just regular maintenance and it keeps on ticking.

Very reliable overall, but early models beware the cam chain tensioner. It's an easy fix though.

The CP3 engine is a bulletproof engine. I’ve seen bikes with over 100,000 miles still rolling along.
