How does the MT 09 compare to a Street Triple?
As both of these naked bikes reside in the same space, the Yamaha MT-09 and Triumph Street Triple are often compared. They come with similarly sporty handling, but have different personalities. The MT 09 is a torquey motor and taller riding, whereas the Street Triple has, in certain trims, better bit quality etc., and is known for its refined handling. Riders argue about the engine character of each bike, its electronics package and how it all fits and finishes together. However, if it was down to personal preference, then it's a no brainer; some riders love the rawness of the MT 09 others want the more polished Street Triple. At that point, the conversation gets into the price and dealer support, and the ability to customize and aftermarket support.
The MT-09 has more grunt at the bottom end, whereas the Street Triple feels smoother all round. Either can't go wrong.
I've had both and the handling on the Street Triple is quite a bit sharper. It's more comfortable for longer ride though the MT 09.
I like the MT-09 feels more raw and exciting to me. The Street Triple is great, but it’s almost too polished for my liking.
Fit and finish is on another level over the Triumph. The MT-09 is fun, but it's much cheaper feeling.
The engine character of the MT 09 is more fun on the street. On a track the Street Triple shines more.
The MT-09 was chosen because it was cheaper and Yamaha dealers are easier to find here. Both are great bikes though.
The Street Triple has a better stock setup, but the MT 09 could be made to work better with some upgrades.
