Is the MT 09 throttle too aggressive?
by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views7 comments
Yamaha MT 09 has a reputation for being very sensitive throttle, particularly in its more aggressive riding modes. It may be loved as a lively, engaging characteristic by some riders, but despised by others as being too abrupt and difficult to modulate smoothly. It’s often a discussion about whether this is a feature or a flaw, and how it impacts everyday rideability versus sporty performance. Newer models of Yamaha have adjusted throttle mapping, but the jury is still out on whether it's been fixed. Techniques for controlling the throttle are shared, aftermarket throttle tuners are discussed, and the MT-09's throttle response is compared to that of other bikes in the class.

On the street it’s fine, but on the track it can be a handful when you’re trying to be precise with your throttle control.

I think Yamaha tried to make it feel exciting, and went a little too far. In wet conditions, it can be downright dangerous.

The quick throttle response is probably one of the best things about the bike once you get used to it. Makes it so much fun to ride.

Stop and go traffic is too much. For city riding I always keep it in the softest mode.

I love how responsive it is. It makes the bike feel alive, whereas, some other bikes feel numb.

The earlier ones could definitely be snatchy, but the 2021+ models are much better. A throttle tuner helps a lot.

If you’re not smooth with your inputs, it’s only too aggressive. If you learn to be gentle, then it’s not a problem.
