Is the Yamaha FZ1 Fazer a good first bike for a new rider?

by @sukhmandeepover 1 year ago0 views8 answers
Yamaha FZ1 Fazer is a 1000cc sport touring motorcycle with Yamaha YZF-R1 superbike roots. It’s famous for its upright riding position, comfortable ergonomics, and a really potent engine. But many experienced riders advise against getting on such a powerful bike. The question is whether a new rider can responsibly handle the power of the FZ1, or whether a beginner can safely learn on the bike. There are those who say its versatility and comfortable ergonomics make it manageable, but there are those who insist its performance is just too much for novice skills. Alternatives to this are discussed, including starting riding on a 600cc or smaller bike and working up to a literbike such as the FZ1.

Terrible first bike choice, nope. Start off with an FZ6 or something similar. In inexperienced hands, the FZ1 is just begging for trouble.

It’s not ideal but it’s not impossible. Take a good riding course, practice in empty lots, and wear full gear. If you're smart about it, you can make it work.

Bad idea. The FZ1 is a handful sometimes, even for experienced riders. Start small, learn the basics on something smaller and work your way up.

It could work, I think, if you're really careful. At low RPMs, the power is very manageable. You just don't want to go crazy on the throttle.

No way. Buy a 650 twin or something first. If you are inexperienced, the FZ1 will get you into trouble real quick.

It depends on the rider. You might be okay if you’re older, cautious, and have good self control. However, for most new riders, it's too much power to handle safely until he has learned.

I got started on an FZ1 and it worked just fine. It’s totally doable as long as you’re mature and respect the power. It’s pretty forgiving in the upright ergonomics.

Absolutely not. A new rider doesn’t need a bike like the FZ1. You first need to learn proper throttle control and body positioning on something smaller first.
