Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?

In fact, I think it will eat into Baleno sales. Of course, some folks might prefer the tall-boy design of the XL5 and similar features at a potentially lower price point. This might be Maruti shooting themselves in the foot here.
Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?

It could go either way. The XL5 could lure new buyers who hadn't thought of buying a Maruti and, in effect, increase its overall market share. Yeah, but there is a risk of some cannibalization from Swift or Baleno.
Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?

Maruti knows what they’re doing, I think. Rather than steal sales from higher models, they’re probably trying to upsell Wagon R buyers. The whole thing is about trying to capture different segments of the market.
Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?

We also need to remember that competition is not only internal. Maruti might also use the XL5 to retain those who would have otherwise already switched sides to customers wanting to the move to another brand offering premium features in a compact car. That’s as much a defensive move as anything.
Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?
31 December 2024 09:25
I think it will actually increase sales of higher end Maruti models. When people come in looking at the XL5, they might realize they want even more features, and then look at the more expensive options in the showroom.
Will NEXA XL5’s premium features eat into sales of other Maruti models?

The real question is how many sales will the XL5 take away from the Ignis. It appears they're going for the same "premium compact" niche. To avoid confusion, Maruti may really have to differentiate these two.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
Absolutely! It’s a super practical design, particularly in crowded cities. It’s easy to get in and out of, great for visibility, and makes the car feel spacious inside. That’s not to say because it’s not the latest trend it isn’t functional.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
I disagree. Now the tall-boy design looks obsolete. Most people like to drive sleek, modern looking cars. But the XL5 is practical, it just won't get you noticed and make you feel like you're in something special.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
It's a mixed bag. The tall-boy design is nice for older people or people with young kids that need easy access. For younger buyers, or those who just want sporty looks, it may be a turn off. The challenge for Maruti is to keep these various needs in balance.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
I feel it still makes sense but Maruti needs to modernise the concept. With the tall-boy design you could keep the practicality but update the styling to make it look more contemporary. Form and function can coexist.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
Fuel efficiency hasn't been forgotten. The tall-boy design isn’t the most aerodynamic, either, and that could affect mileage. In today's market where every kilometer per liter matters this could be a major drawback.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
In fact, I think the tall boy design could come back in vogue. As electric vehicles grow in popularity, we’re beginning to see a return to boxier shapes that maximize interior space. Perhaps the XL5 is ahead of its time.
Does the NEXA XL5's tall boy design hold any meaning in the market of today?
31 December 2024 09:25
The real question is whether the tall boy design fits into the premium NEXA brand image. Does it feel upscale enough, though, if it’s practical? Maruti might find it hard to convince buyers that’s where.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?
31 December 2024 09:25
No way. SUVs are all the rage now. People want that high seating position and that rugged look. An SUV might have some nice features, but nothing beats the XL5 for appeal.

31 December 2024 09:25
And I think it can compete, but in a different way. As a more city friendly package the XL5 offers SUV like space and practicality. Not everyone needs, or wants to have, a large SUV for urban driving.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?
31 December 2024 09:25
It's all about marketing. However, if Maruti plays its cards right with the XL5, and builds it around its premium features and practicality, then it can certainly lure away buyers from entry level compact SUVs.

31 December 2024 09:25
The XL5 and compact SUVs are for different sets of buyers. Let’s be real. For people looking for efficiency and ease of use in the city, the XL5 is the car; for those wanting a more adventurous image, SUV is the car.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?
31 December 2024 09:25
In fact, I think the XL5 has a better value proposition. You’re getting premium features at a lower price point than most compact SUVs. It’s a tempting option for those who are looking for something nice, but who aren’t looking beyond budget.
Is the NEXA XL5 appealing enough along with features to compete with compact SUVs?
31 December 2024 09:25
On the 'cool factor' side the XL5 might have a hard time competing with SUVs. For practical, no-nonsense buyers who can see past the hype however, it may be well worth it. It's about style over substance.
