Do the S-Presso's other shortcomings are made up for by its fuel efficiency?
Maruti S-Presso is famous for its excellent fuel efficiency, a major selling point in the price sensitive Indian market. One of the most fuel efficient petrol cars on offer, it claims figures of around 21-22 km/l. The fact that fuel prices are rising and environmental awareness is also rising makes this aspect especially attractive. This is a contentious issue though as there’s a lot of debate about just how fuel efficient this is and if fuel economy is as a result of having to sacrifice other key factors like build quality or performance. That focus on improving mileage has come at the expense of other areas of consideration, argue some, while others believe fuel efficiency should be the highest priority in the entry level segment. The discussion also covers how the fuel efficiency claimed by the manufacturers matches up to the real world fuel efficiency and especially in the heavy traffic conditions of Indian cities.
In India, fuel efficiency is king. It absolutely makes up for other shortcomings for many buyers.
Poor safety doesn't make up for good mileage. It is penny wise but pound foolish.
The fuel efficiency is a godsend in bumper to bumper traffic. It's right for the job.
The mileage isn’t as good in real world as claimed, so it’s not as big an advantage as Maruti makes it out to be.
It is a huge plus for the fuel efficiency for a second car predominantly used for city errand. It's all about context.
If it means just slightly less mileage, I'd rather have a safer, more comfortable car.
It seems clear that fuel efficiency has come at the expense of other considerations. It feels built to a price.
Prospective buyers on a budget will find the savings on fuel over time considerable. It's a valid selling point.
