Is the Swift the best first car for new drivers in India?

by Ashutoshover 1 year ago0 views8 comments
In India, the Maruti Swift has been a long favourite for first time car buyers. Affordable pricing, easy maintenance, good fuel efficiency and the fact that it's fun to drive has made it a go to option for many new drivers. Yet, with the changing consumer preference and new competitors entering the market there is a question buzzing that whether Swift still belongs to the top of the list. In essence, new factors ranging from improved safety features in rival cars to the changing opinions of what makes a brand special to the changing expectation of first time buyers enter into the discussion. Some say that other options now offer a better overall package for new drivers, others still insist that the Swift's proven track record and widely available support network make it unbeatable for those just beginning their driving journey. In fact, the debate usually delves into how it is easy to drive in the city situations, parking in small spaces and how it boosts the confidence of the new drivers.

We can’t forget that there are automatic variants. Even for new drivers in heavy traffic, the Swift AMT is still one of the cheapest and most reliable options.

It's still probably in the top 3 but not necessarily number one. There's strong competition from the likes of the i10 and the Punch now.

It depends on the new driver. Light controls and good visibility are still hard to beat for someone who is nervous.

For learning, yes. For buying, maybe not. It’s a great thing to learn on, but new drivers might want something a bit more premium for their first purchase.

The Swift is the Nokia 3310 of cars: it does the job, it’s reliable, but there’s much more exciting stuff out there now.

It’s not the best, but it’s a great first car. Maybe new drivers would want the more modern tech and the better safety features.

Absolutely! Still, it's the perfect mix of easy to drive, easy to maintain, and easy to have fun. Also, you can find a mechanic for it anywhere in India.

Nope, not anymore. Now, there are safer options out there that are just as easy to drive. New drivers should keep safety as their top priority.
