The high seating position of the S-Presso is it really a benefit or another gimmick?
The S-Presso is marketed as having an SUV like high seating position, which Maruti says gives better visibility and a commanding view of the road. But some say this design sacrifices stability and handling for the narrow track width and tall body of the car. But there are also worries about the effect on the car's center of gravity and rollover risk. But on the other side, proponents say the higher seating makes ingress/egress easier, especially for the elderly. The feature is also debated to be a marketing ploy to set the S Presso apart from the rest of the small car segment in a crowded market, or if it actually enhances the driving experience in the traffic of Indian cities.
For city driving it’s definitely a benefit. Higher seating means you get a better view of traffic in front of you, which is very useful when you’re in a congested area.
Gimmick all the way. The height is too much for the car, for it to really take advantage of it. It just feels unstable on highways.
I think it's a mixed bag. Visibility is great, but it does give the car a bit of a top heavy feeling when cornering.
The easy entry and exit is a godsend for someone with back problems. For some of us, it’s not just marketing fluff.
It's a smart way to make a small car feel like a bigger car. In terms of handling, it’s not ideal, but psychologically it works.
