Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300R Review

16 May, 2017 09:31 AM

Undoubtedly, Suzuki Hayabusa is the most popular sports bike in India as even school going students of our country are familiar with the name of this bike which has featured in many Bollywood movies and songs. Suzuki entered the Indian market with this bike in the year 2008. Let’s try to figure out what makes this bike unique.

2017 Suzuki Hayabusa will now be assembled in India and the new ex-showroom price is INR 13.88 lakhs (Rs. 4 lakhs cheaper in comparison to the Ninja ZX-14R).

Design and Style

Suzuki has introduced the second generation of this bike in India. The new variant comes with improved aerodynamics which makes it look better than before. The bike looks extremely bulky from its front. Its front fairing houses its vertically placed headlight and clear lens indicators. The wide and long visor further enhances its look with integrated black colored rear view mirrors. Suzuki has also printed graphics on its front fairing which adds aggressiveness to this bike. Just below its headlight, Suzuki has placed a broad front fender which completely covers its front forks. Move to the side of this bike and you will notice the extreme extension of its side cowl. Suzuki Hayabusa is under covers till its rear tyre which differentiates it from others. There are two big air-inlets on its side fairing which looks very cool with the Japanese decals featuring the name of this bike. Suzuki has neatly designed its fuel tank which gives it a premium touch. Its single seat complements its rear designing. The bike features a partly black colored fatty silencer with diamond like coating. The rear cowl houses round shaped LED tail light and up-raised indicators which looks fancy with its broad rear tyre.

Instrument Console

There are as many as five circular dials in the instrument console of this bike along with all essential LED indicators. The bike has analogue tachometer, fuel gauge and temperature gauge. Hayabusa has an interesting analogue as well as digital speedometer which look quite funky. Apart from the speedometer, its orange colored LCD also displays the trip meter and odometer.

Engine and Gearbox

The new age Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 4-stroke, 4cylinder 1340cc engine. This DOHC engine generates a massive power output of 197 bhp at 9500 rpm. The torque production of this liquid cooled, 16 valve engine is of 155 Nm which arrives at 7200 rpm. Suzuki has equipped Hayabusa with a six-speed manual gearbox. The gearbox works with a one gear down and five gears up shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

With the help of this outstanding engine, Hayabusa is world’s fastest motorcycle. The bike does 0-100km/hr in less than 3 seconds. The bike is only crafted to run as fast as possible. This revised variant has lost some weight also which helps it to get a magnificent power to weight ratio. With this bike, you count everything in seconds. Looking at its exceptional abilities, Hayabusa now comes with a restricted top speed of 299km/hr. The six-speed gearbox needs very less effort and shifts to make this bike cross the speed of 150km/hr. It’s an extremely refined engine which is unmatchable in terms of power delivery. The bike is designed to match the speed of world’s fastest bird Falcon which means Hayabusa in Japanese. To control the performance of this engine, Suzuki has equipped this bike with Suzuki drive mode selector. Hayabusa also features Suzuki dual throttle valve which makes it feel like rocket. There are enough amounts of torque and power in this bike which makes your drive fun at any speed in any gear. The slow speed stability of this bike is also commendable.

We don’t think its buyers pay much attention to this department. The bike manages to return a fuel efficiency of around 10km/ltr.

Comfort while Driving

Suzuki Hayabusa offers a very aerodynamic riding posture. Its rear set foot pegs confirm you a sporty riding posture on its lower positioned seat. The handle clips also fold your elbows and make you bend forward to improve the aerodynamics. It offers clear road visibility and the palm grip is also very firm. Your knees automatically stick around its fuel tank which offers nice space around it and you get a good hold of this sports machine. The well-padded seat offers optimum comfort on long journeys.

Storage Space and Safety features

It is not a utility vehicle so don’t expect any storage space however for your safety, this bike comes equipped with front brake callipers and powerful headlight for bright vision at night.

Suspension and Brakes

Suzuki has revised its suspension and braking system. The new variant features inverted cartridge telescopic forks of 43mm at its front while it gets new link type, coil spring with swing arm at the back which is fully adjustable. Hayabusa now comes with new radial mount 6-piston calliper and front dual disc brakes of 310mm. It has a rear disc brake of 260mm. Suzuki has taken all measures to stop this speed monster precisely.

Ride and Handling

Suzuki Hayabusa is a long bike which is quite light and responsive in terms of handling. The high speed stability of this bike is really impressive; it holds the road perfectly with its wide tyres and capable suspension system. You never lose control on this bike thanks to its revised braking system. It has a low ground clearance of 120mm which gives you extra stability at high speeds. It comes with an extended long wheelbase of 1480mm which gives you confidence around sharp corners. The wheelbase also helps it while turning at slow speeds. The bike remains grounded all the time and you enjoy safe cornering and frequent lane changing at high speeds.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

Its front tyre (120/70) and rear tyre (190/50) are fitted in 17 inch alloy wheels. 2017 Hayabusa is offered in Black, Blue and White shade.

Suzuki Hayabusa will now be assembled in India and the new ex-showroom price is INR 13.88 lakhs (Rs. 4 lakhs cheaper in comparison to the Ninja ZX-14R). The bike only targets those who are speed enthusiasts and wants to get into the list of those few lucky people who own this bike. This is certainly better than any other sports bike which is priced close to this bike and we also feel it’s a complete value for money bike.
