Benelli TNT 899
Benelli Variant
General information and overview
The Benelli TNT 899 is a powerful and distinctive motorcycle that stands out in the Indian market. It features an inline-three engine, which produces a unique and appealing sound that many enthusiasts find irresistible. The bike is known for its aggressive riding stance, thanks to its wide handlebar, which makes it well-suited for cornering and spirited riding. The TNT 899 also boasts wave discs for good braking performance, although the rear brakes could use some improvement. The absence of advanced electronics is notable, but this does not detract from the bikes appeal for purists who enjoy a more raw and unfiltered riding experience. Overall, the TNT 899 is a solid choice for riders who value its unique engine, handling, and the thrill of riding a high-performance motorcycle.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Benelli TNT 899 is a formidable entry in the Indian motorcycle market, particularly for those who crave the unique sound and character of an inline-three engine. While it may not be as refined as an inline-four or as raw as a V-twin, the TNT 899 offers a distinct riding experience. The bikes aggressive riding stance, courtesy of its wide handlebar, makes it well-suited for cornering, although it may require some adjustment for comfort. The braking performance is commendable, especially with the wave discs, though the rear brakes could benefit from better calibration. Overall, the TNT 899 is a great choice for enthusiasts who value its unique engine sound and handling, but it may not be the best fit for those seeking a more refined or electronically aided ride.
Recent news and announcements
The Benelli TNT 899 has been discontinued in the Indian market, marking the end of an era for this powerful naked bike. This decision comes as Benelli focuses on other models and market strategies. I think this is a significant loss for enthusiasts who loved the TNT 899s raw power and aggressive styling.
In 2022, Benelli announced an upgrade for the TNT 899, making it lighter and equipping it with a new brake system. These updates were aimed at enhancing the bikes performance and handling. The new dimensions also improved the overall ride quality.
Despite the upgrades, the Benelli TNT 899 faced stiff competition in the Indian market from other naked bikes. Its high price point, around Rs. 9 lakhs, made it less accessible to many potential buyers. This pricing strategy may have contributed to its eventual discontinuation.
Benelli had plans to launch several new models in India by 2024, but there was no mention of the TNT 899 in these plans. This hinted at a possible phase-out of the model even before the official discontinuation announcement.
The Benelli TNT 899 was known for its powerful 898cc inline-three engine, producing 105 horsepower. This made it a favorite among performance enthusiasts in India. However, its fuel efficiency was not its strongest point, which might have deterred some buyers.
Pricing details and changes
When the Benelli TNT 899 was launched in India, its ex-showroom price was around 9.15 lakhs. However, the on-road price, including taxes and other costs, would typically range from 10.5 lakhs to 11.5 lakhs, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing positions the TNT 899 in a competitive segment, where it faces off against other premium motorcycles. While the price may seem steep for some, the unique characteristics and performance of the TNT 899 make it a worthwhile investment for serious motorcycle enthusiasts.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the Benelli TNT 899 in India is not its strongest suit, with an average fuel efficiency of around 15-20 kml. This is typical for a high-performance motorcycle, and users should be prepared for higher running costs due to the bikes thirst for fuel. However, for those who prioritize performance and the riding experience over fuel efficiency, the TNT 899 remains a compelling option.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on Benelli TNT 899
Benelli TNT 899 is an unmerciful machine, filled with power to its neck. The wide eyed monster looks straight into the rival, shattering his dreams of victory. The engine being an 898 cc powerhouse, it generates 119.37 BHP @ 10000 rpm and 85.6 NM @ 8000 rpm. For keeping the horses calm, a liquid cooling system has been installed. Electronic fuel injection with three 53 mm diameter throttle bodies has been used for the best use of fuel being supplied.

The six speed manual transmission makes it a true sprinter with more than enough power for each gear provided. 16 litres of petrol is all what is takes to satisfy the hunger of this giant monster and in return, you get each mile filled with a new moment of adventure and sport. The braking power goes in the hands of twin 320 mm floating discs with radial mounted Brembo 4 piston calipers for the front and a single 240 mm wave disc with Brembo 2 piston calipers.
That simply means a razor sharp braking experience. The tyres on the other side are totally loyal to the braking with their superior road grip. Front gets an option of 120/70-ZR17 whereas the rear has much wider 190/50-ZR17. Suspension is totally under the surveillance of Marzocchi 50 mm upside down forks for the front and Sachs shock 120 mm stroke which also has an adjustable pre-load rebound. Trust me, they are very dedicated to their job and will leave all the unpredicted road problems to the road only, giving the rider a smooth ride every time.
A combination of technology and classic appeal surely defines the instrument cluster of the TNT 899. With a digital speedometer and an analogue tachometer, the thrill of watching your-self fly has been equally balanced. A digital clock for some time bound missions has also been provided into the digital console. The tachometer needle seems greedy as it always wishes for the highest position and after 8000 rpm, goose bumps are guaranteed.
