Our take on this /// Verdict
The Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is a unique and appealing offering for those who crave a blend of nostalgia and modern reliability. While it may not match the refinement of Japanese bikes, it offers a distinct riding experience that is both visceral and engaging. The bikes heavy torque and ability to maintain speed without complaint make it suitable for long rides, despite its relatively low top speed. However, the notable vibration, particularly at higher speeds, is a significant drawback that potential buyers should consider. Overall, this bike is ideal for riders who value the raw, mechanical feel of a classic motorcycle and are willing to accept some of its quirks.
Price
In India, the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition, when it was launched, was priced around 2.4 lakhs ex-showroom. However, prices can vary depending on the state and local taxes, which would push the on-road price to approximately 2.8 lakhs to 3.2 lakhs. This pricing reflects the bikes limited edition status and the unique features it offers, such as the Service Brown paint scheme and the Pegasus logo. For those interested in a distinctive and collectible motorcycle, the price is reasonable, but it may be steep for those seeking a more practical or high-performance option.

Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus Edition Review

25 Jun, 2018 08:09 AM

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus will be a limited edition of the standard Classic 500 made by the company with only 1000 units to be manufactured internationally. The difference between the standard edition of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 and the Pegasus edition lies only with the cosmetic parts of the machine, the mechanics of the machine remaining the same.

The Pegasus edition has a retro look which appeals to the inspiration derived from the WD/RE125 which was used by the British Paratroopers in the Second World War. It was nicknamed the Flying Flea because it was airdropped in the war zones in steel cages. The Flying Flea weighed only 59 kg and was effective in jumping over fences. The Pegasus, however, has a kerb weight of 194 kg and only looks somewhat like the Flying Flea, keeping the machinery the same as that of the Classic 500.

There are a few cosmetic changes in the Pegasus edition. These include the Pegasus logo on the fuel tank along with canvas panniers, leather straps with brass buckles on the battery box, brown handlebar grips, an ‘RE’ tank badge similar to that of the Flying Flea, and a serial number on the fuel tank which will be different on every unit made. This serial number will range from C50001 to C50250 for the 250 units that would be sold in India out of the total 1000. The rest will be sold in the UK, the USA, and Australia. The retro appeal of the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus will be brought out by blacked-out elements like the exhaust muffler, the engine, the rims, the handlebar, and the headlight bezel.

RE Classic 500 Pegasus is priced at INR 2.17 lakhs in India (ex-showroom Delhi) and the bike is available only in Service Brown color. Internationally, there is another Olive Drab Green color available which will not be available in the Indian markets, given the fact that the shades of green on vehicles are reserved for the armed forces in India. The Pegasus edition will reserve the same 499 cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine with a power of 28 HP at 5250 rpm and a torque of 41.3 Nm at 4000 rpm.
