Should You Buy It? | Consider your preferences before going for TVS Apache RR 310. It is a typical sportbike and should not be confused with a sports tourer. It feels expensive at some times as segment leader KTM RC390 is just INR 25k away. Consider RR 310 if you are into track riding and don't compare the same with Mojo or Dominar in this engine segment. |

TVS Apache RR 310 Review
Synopsis
The flagship motorcycle from TVS Motors, Apache RR 310 have been launched in India with a price tag of INR 2.05 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The motorcycle is said to be a progression from the TVS Akula concept which was showcased @ Auto Expo 2016. TVS Apache RR 310 (TVS Akula) is powered by a 312.2cc engine churning out a maximum power of 34 HP and an utmost torque of 27.2 NM.
The bike is a sure shot head turner with its amazing style and commendable performance with a uniquely stand out design. The all in one commuter, tourer and an occasional track bike, TVS Apache RR 310 is going to take the market in all its ultimate glory. The bike competes against the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, KTM RC 390, Bajaj Dominar, and Mahindra Mojo in the segment.
Design and Style
TVS Apache RR 310’s design has been derived from TVS Racing's 35 years of experience on the track. It might be the company’s most powerful offering till date. You can see that the rear of the bikes gets to have plethora of changes from the concept model though, the front silhouette looks the same. The shark inspired look makes the bike rather aggressive to look. The bike is equipped with first-in-class Bi-LED projector headlamps and LED DRLs, while the rear boasts of the devil's horn shaped LED taillights.
Engine Specs & Mileage
The Apache RR 310 is powered by a four-stroke, four-valve, single-cylinder, reverse-inclined 312.2 cc engine that churns out a maximum power of 34 HP at 9700 rpm and an utmost torque of 27.2 NM at 7700 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed gearbox and offers mileage of around 25-30 kmpl (approx. figure).
Performance and Top Speed
TVS Apache RR 310 claims a 0-60 kmph sprint time of just 2.93 seconds and TVS has claimed that the motorcycle has the best-in-class drag coefficient which enables it to reach a top speed of 160 kmph. A 169.5kg kerb weight, and a short ratio gearbox promises best-in-class in-gear acceleration. The biggest highlight here is the fact that the engine uses a reverse inclined architecture, the first ever for India. The precise fueling makes the throttle response quite crisp.
Instrument Console
RR 310 features a digital tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer with other LED indicators. The tail lamp and turn indicators too are LED units. The twin projector LED headlamps are known to consume a power of only 30 Watts yet gives the illumination rather standard with the daylight. The instrument cluster show information about the engine temperature and gear position for optimized performance.
Comfort While Riding
The TVS Apache RR 310 has been shortly equipped which means that you can ride at higher speed even without lifting a finger. The aerodynamic design of the bike allows the rider to bend forward with knees rolled back in perfect position. The nose down tail up design is perfect for a track performer as well as a daily commuter. The suspension and chassis made it easy to ride the bike hard on track and allows you a safe ride even on the sharp corners.
Suspension
TVS Motor claims that the suspension of the bike has been setup to offer a perfect balance between a good ride and sporty handling. It gets upside down (USD) front Kayaba forks with a cartridge type damping system, while the rear mono-shock gets teflon sealing for longevity. It gets a new trellis frame and disc brakes at either end. The Apache RR 310 uses a 110/70 tyre at the front and a 150/60 tyre at the rear making it easy to explore the bike's potential.
Brakes
The bike has a 300mm Petal Disc with a radial caliper at the front and the rear gets a 240mm Petal Disc. The Apache RR 310 comes with dual channel ABS. TVS claims best-in-class braking for the Apache RR 310. The bigger discs have resulted into more precise and safe braking which confirms you a safe ride.
Ride and Handling
TVS racing has produced multiple racing champions which have all came together to work closely for the development of Apache RR 310 making its handling rather perfect. The suspension allows you to soak up the undulations on track very well. It seems like a lot of hard work has been gone into perfecting the set up, making the bike rather fit for the track and for daily commute too. The adjustable mono-shock suspension makes the bike perfect in terms of flick-ability and turning it around the crisp corners.
Colors
TVS Apache RR 310 is available in the market in two striking colors:- Racing Black, Racing Red. It would have been better if TVS offered the bike in at least 2 more shades - White and Blue. Blue shade was even spotted before the launch of the bike. TVS might offer more shades after 3-4 months.
Price & Verdict
The entry-level sport bike, the Apache RR 310 is a very well put together package, mostly for the race tracks. The superbly built, beautifully designed motorcycle with superior engineering is all set to change the motorcycle market. But TVS didn't price the bike aggressively, and we feel that the price is on the higher side.
We were expecting the bike to be priced around INR 1.75 Lakh (ex-showroom) but we must say that TVS has done a fantastic job by launching a world-class sport bike without compromising on the overall build quality and features.
Its high refinement, fit-finish and quality levels makes it an overall winner. The bike is superb in terms of its handling and clearly benefits immensely from TVS Motor's 35 years of experience in road racing. TVS says as many as 200 different CFD iterations were done to achieve best-in-class aerodynamic performance.
