How does the Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) ride against modern 150cc bikes?
27 January 2025 08:08
I think the build quality still goes to the FZ V1. It’s more solid and more durable than some of the newer, plasticky 150cc bikes. It’s showing its age in terms of features and performance.
Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?
27 January 2025 08:08
Absolutely! The V1 FZ is always in style. Mine has been running like a dream since 2010. It has top notch build quality and parts are easily available. Also, it has that raw mechanical feel newer bikes don’t.

I wouldn't recommend it. It's a long way from 2008 in technology. When you look at the bikes these days they offer better fuel efficiency, more features and safety. A newer model or a different brand is better.

That depends on what you’re looking for. Still a solid choice if you’re looking for a reliable, no frills commuter with a bit of style. All you need to do is make sure you get one that's been well taken care of.
Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?

I recently bought a used FZ V1 and I would say go for it! The bike is simple enough to be maintained and modified easily. On top of that, it's a charm that newer models can't equal.
Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?

I think it's outdated now. The FZ V1 feels underwhelming for a 150 – 160cc offering. In fact, you’d be better off with something like the Apache RTR 160 4V or newer FZ versions.
Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?
27 January 2025 08:08
It’s totally worth it if you can find one in good condition. It’s for a reason that the FZ V1 has its cult following. It’s comfortable, it handles well, and it has that special character you don’t get with modern bikes.
Is Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1) worth buying in 2025?

I'd say it's a mixed bag. It's a proven, reliable machine on one hand. On the other hand, you lose out on the features such as ABS, and fuel injection. Decide only after considering what your priorities are.
I have a Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1). What's the best mod you've done to it?
27 January 2025 08:08
The best mod I’ve done, hands down, is installing a performance exhaust. The stock one is too quiet, and too restrictive. A good aftermarket exhaust really wakes up the engine and you can hear it nicely growl.

It’s the LED headlight upgrade for me. It's pretty weak stock headlight, especially for night riding. The LED conversion does make a huge difference in visibility and looks cooler as well.
I have a Yamaha FZ16 (FZ V1). What's the best mod you've done to it?

Id say the best mod is to have no mod at all. It is perfect as is the FZ V1. Why mess with Yamaha's engineering?

Upgrading the suspension is the best mod I've done. The new fork springs and rear monoshock made the handling world's apart on bumpy roads.

For me, the handlebar risers are what it is. It was such a simple mod, but it changed the riding position so much and made long rides so much more comfortable.

I replaced the stock air filter with a high flow one. It's not a huge change, but the bike breathes better, particularly at higher revs.

The best mod I've done is a purely cosmetic mod, a custom paint job. I love how it looks now, it makes my FZ stand out. Not all is about performance sometimes!
With the Yamaha FZS V4 Deluxe, does it really live up to the hype of being a 'city slicker's dream bike'?

Absolutely! I've been commuting on mine for six months now and it is everything I'd hoped. Great mileage, smooth ride and turns heads.

It's good, but not a revolution. It feels pretty much the same as other 150 to 160 cc bikes I've ridden. It's a bit of a stretch to call it the "dream bike."
With the Yamaha FZS V4 Deluxe, does it really live up to the hype of being a 'city slicker's dream bike'?

It does live up to the hype for me. It's right on the money as far as balance between performance and comfort for city riding. No regrets buying it.

Overrated, in my opinion. To be fair, it's pretty to look at, but better fuel efficiency was what I was after. The city use of my old Pulsar was just as good.

The bike is solid, but a "dream" is marketing fluff. Nothing more, nothing less, it does the job well.
