How does the pillion comfort on the FZS Deluxe stand up against the competition in its class?

However, an often ignored aspect of motorcycle design is pillion comfort, which is important for many Indian riders who often ride with a passenger. Split seat design and grab rails mean the FZS Deluxe supposedly provides better pillion comfort than its predecessors and some rivals. But owners and their passengers have widely varying opinions on this. There’s praise for a comfortable pillion seat on the bike and generally stable ride as a pillion, and grumbling about a seat cover that is too slippery, not enough leg room or uncomfortable vibrations when it hasn't been ridden in a while. The debate often goes on to compare it with other popular bikes in 150 160cc segment and discussing aftermarket solutions to make the pillion more comfortable.

It's decent, but not great. On long rides my girlfriend complains that the seat is too hard.

I can tell you I like it far better than the old FZ. The difference is the wider seat and grab rails better positioned.

For short trips it’s okay, but if you’re doing more than 30 minutes your pillion will start squirming. Passengers will find the Pulsar N160 more comfortable.

In fact, the pillion seat is one of the reasons I chose the FZS. It is much more comfortable than our old Apache, my wife likes it.

It's a mixed bag. It’s a comfortable seat, but shorter pillions may find the footpeg position awkward.

I then added a small backrest and it is now super comfortable for my pillion. I wish Yamaha would make this a stock option.

The seat lacks enough cushioning and the grab rails are well designed. On bumpy roads, it gets uncomfortable.

It’s above average compared to other 150cc bikes. If pillion comfort is your number one priority, then you may want to check out 180 – 200cc bikes instead.

The pillion seat is one annoying thing that gets really hot in traffic. They should have added better heat insulation at Yamaha.

City use is fine but on highways the lack of wind protection for the pillion becomes obvious. If you do a lot of highway riding with a passenger you might want to consider adding a small windscreen.
