How do you find the Yamaha FZS-FI V3.0 in wet conditions?

Riding in the rain can be tough and the performance of a motorcycle in the wet is a big factor in safety and confidence. Being a popular commuter, the Yamaha FZS-FI V3.0 often faces the monsoon challenge in many parts of India. Riders have talked about what it’s like to ride it in the wet – how grippy the tyres are, how efficient the brakes are and how stable it is. Fans of the balanced weight distribution, while those who have had the pleasure of driving with the stock tyres are worried about the wet grip. Also, there has been debate in past as to whether the rear drum brake (in some variants) is more effective than the disc brake option in rainy conditions. There's also interest in how the bike's electronics, specifically its ABS system, work when the roads are slick. So let’s talk about what FZ riders have been through when the skies open up and the streets get wet.

I’ve ridden my FZ through some pretty heavy downpours and it’s always felt stable. It keeps the weight distribution really well planted.

In the wet the stock tyres are ok, but nothing special. I then switched to a set of Michelin Pilot Streets, and the difference in wet grip is night and day.

I expected it to handle rain worse than it does. A couple of times when I've had to brake hard on wet roads the ABS has saved my bacon.

I don’t like how it drives in heavy rain. The drum brake version has a bit too much tendency to step out at the rear for my liking.

In the wet, as long as you're smooth with the controls, it's fine. In those conditions, it’s more about the rider than the bike.

The FZ does alright, but I would have liked better water dispersion channels in the tyre tread. You have to be really careful in standing water.

I travel to work year round, rain or shine. I've never had the FZ let me down in wet weather. It’s just a matter of changing your riding style and being more cautious.

It’s okay in the rain, but not great. If you’ve ridden bigger bikes with more electronic aids, you’ll notice the lack of traction control.
