What is long distance touring like on the FZS 250?
Due to the FZS 250's capabilities on longer rides and touring, many riders are curious about them. The bike has been tested for its comfort, fuel efficiency and performance on longer journeys. Its 250cc engine is a big enough topic to debate whether it has enough power for highway cruising, loaded with luggage and a pillion rider. Topics that come under discussion include seat comfort, wind protection, the fuel tank capacity and the bike's stability at high speeds etc. Riders share their experiences of multi day trips, talking about how the bike copes with different terrains and weather. This also gives us a chance to compare the FZS 250 with other touring bikes in the same segment, to see if it’s a budget friendly touring option.
The FZS 250 is surprisingly capable and I’ve taken it on a couple of trips of 500+ km. The fuel efficiency means fewer stops, the seat is comfortable enough. It’s not a dedicated tourer, but it works.
I wouldn’t recommend it for serious touring, honestly. Long highway stretches can be tiring when there's a lack of wind protection, and fully loaded, the power feels lacking.
While it’s decent for weekend getaways, if you’re looking to do a longer tour I’d prefer something with a little more oomph. Around town, the FZS 250 is great, but on a long highway run it starts to feel a little stressed.
I think it's all about expectation. So, if you’re fine with a slightly lower pace and not mind taking breaks, the FZS 250 can also be a fun touring companion. It's light enough to handle and good on twisty roads.
I've done a 2000 km trip on the FZS 250 and I'd say it's surprisingly capable. It’s not the fastest, but it’s reliable and comfortable enough. All you have to do is pack light and be wise about your routes.
The FZS 250 is a city bike masquerading as a tourer. It’s fine for short trips, but if you want to do serious long distance riding, you’d be better off with something like Dominar 400 or even RE Himalayan.
The FZS 250 turned out to be a nice budget touring option. It's fuel efficient, road friendly and comfy enough for long days in the saddle. You just won't break any speed records though.
