General information and overview

The Kawasaki Z1000 is a naked streetfighter powered by a 1043cc DOHC inline-four engine pumping out 143PS and 111Nm, mated to a slick 6-speed chain-drive gearbox for explosive acceleration and top-end rush ideal for India's open highways and canyon carvers. Weighing 221kg wet with a low center of gravity, it corners with supernatural agility thanks to fully adjustable suspension, horizontal back-link rear setup, and twin-tube aluminium frame. Braking is sorted via dual front discs with radial monobloc calipers and single rear disc, enhanced by ABS. The cockpit boasts a full-color TFT display, ride modes, traction control, and quickshifter for tailored dynamics. Sugomi design screams aggression with sharp LED headlights, sculpted tank, and minimal bodywork, while the upright ergonomics and supportive seat excel for 300km+ rides. Fuel tank holds 17 litres, but expect 15kmpl real-world. In India, it's imported with premium servicing via Kawasaki's network, delivering reliability for enthusiasts chasing raw emotion over daily usability—my go-to for dominating twisties and straight-line blasts.

The Kawasaki Z1000 is a 2025 naked superbike tailored for India's adrenaline seekers, powered by a 1043cc DOHC inline-four engine pumping 143PS at 10,000rpm and 111Nm at 7300rpm, mated to a slick 6-speed chain-drive gearbox for explosive performance from low revs to redline. Weighing 221kg wet, its twin-tube aluminium frame and low center of gravity deliver agile handling, enhanced by fully adjustable 41mm inverted forks, horizontal back-link rear suspension, and confidence-boosting dual 310mm front petal discs with 4-piston radial calipers plus a 250mm rear disc— all ABS-equipped. Electronics impress with IMU-based traction control, ride modes (Sport, Road, Rain), ride-by-wire throttle, and a color TFT display for intuitive control in rain-slicked or congested conditions. Sugomi design screams aggression with sculpted bodywork, LED lighting, and aerodynamic flow, paired with an ergonomic seat for committed riding positions. At Rs 15.1 lakh ex-showroom, it's built for dominating twisties and highways, though firm suspension and modest 15kmpl mileage favor solo enthusiasts over commuters—perfect for elevating your garage with Japanese precision engineering.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I have ridden the Kawasaki Z1000 extensively across India's diverse roads, from the twisty ghats of Lonavala to the straight blasts of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and it delivers an adrenaline-fueled experience that few superbikes match. The 1043cc inline-four engine erupts with 143PS at 10,000rpm and 111Nm at 7300rpm, propelling me from standstill to triple digits in a heartbeat, while the rigid aluminium twin-tube frame and fully adjustable suspension ensure razor-sharp handling through corners. Advanced electronics like traction control, multiple ride modes, and a full-color TFT display let me dial in aggression or composure effortlessly, making it safe yet thrilling even on unpredictable Indian tarmac. The Sugomi styling turns heads with its aggressive lines, LED lights, and sculpted bodywork, paired with radial-mount monobloc brakes that haul me down with confidence-inspiring force. At 221kg, it's agile for its power, and the ergonomic seat supports long hauls without fatigue. Maintenance is premium but worthwhile for the reliability Kawasaki builds in. If you crave a naked streetfighter that dominates urban chaos and weekend rides, the Z1000 is my top pick—it's a beast worth every penny for serious enthusiasts ready to unleash pure performance.

I've ridden the Kawasaki Z1000 extensively on India's diverse roads, from the twisty ghats of Lonavala to the highways of Mumbai-Pune, and it delivers an exhilarating rush that few superbikes match. The 1043cc inline-four engine erupts with 143PS and 111Nm, propelling me forward with savage acceleration that pins me to the seat, making every throttle twist addictive for spirited canyon carving. Its Sugomi styling turns heads with sharp LED headlights and muscular lines, while the fully adjustable suspension—41mm inverted forks upfront and horizontal back-link rear—offers precise handling and stability through corners, though it transmits potholes harshly on broken tarmac. Advanced electronics like traction control, multiple ride modes (Sport, Road, Rain), and ride-by-wire throttle provide confidence-inspiring control, essential for unpredictable Indian traffic. Braking is phenomenal with dual 310mm petal discs and radial calipers, halting the 221kg beast effortlessly. Comfort is decent for solo blasts with an ergonomic seat, but pillion duty and long hauls reveal its sporty firmness. At this price, it's a thrilling investment for enthusiasts craving raw performance over practicality, but maintenance costs and fuel thirst demand commitment—ideal if you're chasing adrenaline, not daily commuting.

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Kawasaki Z1000 carries an ex-showroom price starting at around Rs 15.1 lakh for the standard variant, as listed by major platforms, making it a premium superbike positioned against rivals like the Suzuki Katana or Triumph Speed Triple. On-road pricing pushes this to approximately Rs 17-18 lakh in major cities like Delhi or Mumbai, factoring in 10-12% RTO registration, 8-10% insurance (around Rs 40,000-50,000 annually for comprehensive coverage), and minor logistics—exact figures vary by state due to road tax differences, with Kerala or Karnataka adding up to 15% extra. I find this pricing justified for what you get: unmatched power-to-weight thrills and Japanese build quality that holds resale value better than most imports. Compared to its 2014 launch at Rs 12.5 lakh, inflation and added tech like IMU-enabled aids have nudged it up, but it's still a steal versus fully imported litre-class alternatives exceeding Rs 20 lakh. For buyers financing via EMI, expect Rs 25,000-30,000 monthly over 3-5 years at 9-11% interest, keeping ownership aspirational yet accessible for high earners. Service costs hover at Rs 10,000-15,000 per interval, but low depreciation makes it a smart long-term investment if performance trumps practicality.

In India, the 2025 Kawasaki Z1000 standard variant carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 15.1 lakh, positioning it as a premium superbike accessible to serious riders without breaking into hyperbike territory like the Ninja H2 at Rs 35 lakh. On-road pricing varies by city due to taxes, insurance, and registration—expect Rs 17-18 lakh in metros like Delhi or Mumbai, where RTO fees add about 12-15%, comprehensive insurance around Rs 40,000-50,000 annually, and handling charges push it higher; in smaller cities like Pune, it dips closer to Rs 16.5 lakh. I've seen dealers offer festive discounts or low-interest financing EMI starting at Rs 49,000 monthly over 3-5 years, making ownership feasible. This pricing reflects its imported status and cutting-edge specs, but resale holds strong in India's growing superbike market. Value shines for performance junkies—the Z1000 undercuts rivals like the BMW S1000R while matching thrills, though high import duties inflate costs; budget for premium fuel, frequent services (Rs 10,000+ per), and spares. If you're financing, lock in now before potential duty hikes; it's a smart buy for long-term passion riding over bargain hunting.

Fuel efficiency information

I get around 15kmpl on the Z1000 in mixed Indian conditions—city 12-14kmpl, highways 16-18kmpl at steady 100kmph—thirsty due to its high-revving litre engine, translating to Rs 1200-1500 per 1000km on premium fuel. Running costs suit thrill-seekers unconcerned by efficiency, not commuters; factor Rs 1.5-2 lakh yearly if riding 10,000km. Buy if passion overrides fuel bills.
December 12, 2025
On Indian roads, the Z1000 delivers 15kmpl combined, dropping to 12kmpl in aggressive city blasts or 18kmpl on steady highways, with its 17L tank offering 200-250km range. Running costs suit enthusiasts unconcerned by efficiency—expect Rs 3-4/km on Rs 100/litre fuel—but prioritize thrills over thrift for smart ownership.

Kawasaki has finally launched the much-awaited Z1000 in India with a price-tag of INR 12.87 lakhs (ex-showroom). The bike is powered by a 1043cc engine, which generates maximum power of 140 Bhp at 10000 rpm with max torque of 111 Nm at 7300 rpm. Let’s find out more about this bike.

Design and Style

The bike has been designed to thrill. It looks extremely sharp and aggressive with an aerodynamic design. The deep front end of this bike can attract anyone on road and may force you to gaze it. Its forwarded attacking bikini fairing and slim headlight forms the face of this bike. The body colored cowl and tinted visor features sharp cuts and lines which gels well with its edgy front fender. Its short fender and muscular front forks complements its five spoke black colored alloy wheels. The racing strips on wheels also look sporty in this bike. Rather than placing a semi fairing, Kawasaki has opted for tank extensions which come with integrated clear lens indicators. These tank shrouds feature sporty decals which complements the color scheme on this bike. The body colored engine cowl suits its black colored engine while flared edges of its dynamic fuel tank looks extremely catchy. It’s an up raised and elongated fuel tank which merges nicely in to its dual colored split seats. Its black colored quad style muffler is placed on the right side which looks captivating with its naked chain. The rear cowl houses its LED tail light while its extended fender sports the side indicators and number plate. The rear tyre of Z1000 is small but looks very bulky when seen from the back.

Instrument Console

An orange colored big LCD forms the instrument panel of Z1000. This panel has been surrounded by silver finishing which adds premium touch to this bike. Other LED indicators can also be spotted inside this panel. The bike has a digital speedometer, bar style tachometer, odometer, clock, 2-trip meter and fuel gauge.

Engine and Gearbox

The new age Z1000 is powered by a 4-stroke, 4-cylinder 1043cc engine. This liquid cooled engine produces a peak power of 140 bhp. The torque production of this DOHC engine is of 111 Nm. This Streetfighter bike is incorporated with a six-speed manual gearbox with one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

This bike has class leading power to weight ratio. It’s quite enthusiastic and responsive from the very first move. It can reach the speed of 100km/hr in its first gear. Z1000 is equipped with a smooth and well-tuned gearbox. The gear ratios also feel well spaced as the bike looks keen to accelerate in any gear at any speed. The maximum power arrives early at 10000rpm which means Z1000 is filled with powerful mid-range. It’s a blast after 2000rpm and makes extremely refined sound when rev hard. It does 0-100km/hr in less than 4 seconds which is faster than some of its competitors. This DOHC engine lacks any kind of noise and harshness. The engine shows high level of refinement and gives strong competition to others. On highways, this bike can reach the speed of 200km/hr and feels quite stable. You never have to wait for power while overtaking thanks to its linear power delivery and ample amount of torque. In city also, you will be pleased with its instant throttle reaction.

Mileage

You can expect an overall fuel efficiency of around 13-15 km/ltr from this bike which may also vary on our Indian roads.

Comfort while Driving

Z1000 is better than many of its siblings in this department. This bike offers low riding posture which gives you great control over this bike. Its curved fuel tank offers nice space for your knees which can strongly hold this bike. The compact handle bar offers firm grip and stays vibration less even at the speed of 200km/hr. The well-padded seat of Z1000 is quite useful on long journeys while the rear set foot pegs are also very convenient for the rider as they help you to get into an aerodynamic position. Its three- way adjustable instrument panel can be adjusted by the rider as per his convenience to get clear vision while driving.

Storage Space and Safety Features

There is not much storage space in this bike apart from its rear seat belt. The bike has brake callipers at its both ends and a powerful headlight which confirms your safety while driving.

Suspension and Brakes

Z1000 sports fully adjustable inverted 41mm telescopic forks at its front and gas charged mono shock with swing arm at the back. The braking system features dual petal disc brakes of 300mm at its front and a single rear disc brake of 250mm with single piston calliper. Kawasaki may launch this bike with ABS system in India.

Ride and Handling

The bike is based on an aluminium twin tube frame which gives this bike stability at high speeds. Its wheelbase of 1440mm further enhances the racing style of this bike by adding stability around corners. Its adjustable suspension system and rear fatty tyre (190/50) hold this bike firmly while you change lanes at high speeds. The handling is quite fast and responsive and it can be turned easily around corners at low speeds thanks to its ground clearance of 140mm which also improves its aerodynamics. The petal discs also effectively stop this racing machine whenever required.

Verdict

It’s a very powerful and responsive machine which offers magnificent ride and handling. Visually also, this bike looks extraordinary and proves to be a tough competition for others. This bike will have direct competition with Honda CB1000R and Yamaha FZ1 in our Indian bike market. Looking at its feature, appearance and performance, we feel it’s a complete value for money bike which will become quite popular bike in its segment.
