Honda CB1000R Review

27 Dec, 2021 09:45 AM

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Honda CB1000R debuted in the year 2007. This naked sports bike from Honda is their cheapest 1000cc bike in India. This bike replaced the Honda CB900F in many international markets. Let’s get into the detailing of this speed monster.

Design and Style

The bike resembles a lot to Honda’s CB600F when seen from its front. The triangular multi-reflector headlight and front mudguard of this bike seems to be inspired from the CB600F. Its headlight features a uniquely positioned LED lamp which along with its clear lens indicators which are placed very near to its edgy visor makes it look very attractive. You will also notice the extensions of its front mudguard which goes along with its golden finished beefy front forks. The black coloured rear view mirrors are mounted on its handle bar. Its black coloured engine and aluminium wheels look really cool with its massive disc plates on its both wheels. Its bulky chromed muffler appears very fascinating with its nickel plated bolt heads on its new design crankcase. The macho fuel tank on this bike has sharp cuts on it and complements it side cowl which makes this bike look aerodynamic. There is also a 3D classy badge of Honda on its fuel tank. This bike features split seat and pretty upraised rear cowl with no grab rail adding sports appeal to this bike. The rear cowl is very lightweight which has been designed very sharply. You can notice its LED tail light, extended rear fender and quite fatty tyre at the back.

Honda CB1000R Instrument Console

Honda has placed a fully digital and compact LCD meter panel on this bike. It has a wide throw multi segment LCD tachometer. On the left side of this tachometer, it has a digital speedometer while on its right side it features a LCD for fuel gauge, trip meter and Odometer. All these LCDs use blue back-light for illumination. There are also other LED indicators in this instrument console.

Honda CB1000R Engine and Gearbox

Honda has re-tuned the engine of CBR1000RR (2007) for this bike. It is powered by a powerful 998cc incline 4 engine. This liquid cooled, 4-stroke machine now pumps out a massive power output of 126 bhp at 10000 rpm. The torque production of this 16valve DOHC engine is of 100 Nm which can be attained at 8000 rpm. The bike features six-speed manual gearbox with one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.

Honda CB1000R Acceleration and Performance

The specifications of Honda CB1000R indicate towards its high quality of acceleration and performance. It’s been created to thrill you with its performance and it does so in style. Honda has also reduced the weight of this bike by its advance aluminium back bone frame which enhances it performance. Before you blink, the bike reaches 0-100km/hr within 4 seconds and from here on it gets into serious business. The sound of this engine at high rpms can grab attention of many people on our Indian roads. It can go all the way to 10000rpm mark however our Indian roads are not pretty safe to do this thing but still if you get a chance; the bike can cross the speed of 190km/hr. After 6000rpm, there is very less usage of its torque as after getting momentum, the power of this bike does all the work. Yes, in city conditions its torque comes to play and avoids frequent gear shifting and gives you the confidence to rev this bike hard. The refinement level of this DOHC engine is commendable as it never feels strained. It has tall gear ratios which are well mated with this engine. It’s a light gearbox which offers smooth gear transitions.

Honda CB1000R Mileage

The fuel efficiency of CB1000R ranges from 15-20km/ltr although if you are buying this bike then its fuel efficiency shouldn't bother you much.

Comfort while Driving

Honda CB1000R offers a sporty riding posture with its split seat and rear-set foot pegs. You have to bend forward to reach its handle bar to make yourself comfortable. You can have a firm grip around its fuel tank which has proper space for your knees. It’s a wide bike with a low seating. The palm grip is also comfortable and you have a nice view of its instrument panel.

Storage Space and Safety Features

There is no storage space in this bike. For Safety, this bike features advanced ABS and powerful headlight.

Suspension and Brakes

Honda CB1000R has a superb suspension system which enables it to give you a flawless ride. It features an adjustable front suspension with 43mm inverted telescopic forks of 120mm cushion stroke which helps it settle well at high speeds. Its front suspension is straight-away from its elder sibling, Fireblade. At the back, it has a gas filled mono shock absorber. It’s 10 step pre-load and rebound damping adjustable. Its braking system includes 310mm floating disc brake at its front. The bike shares radial mount callipers with elder sibling. It has a combined ABS which features 4-piston front brake callipers. CB1000R sports a rear hydraulic disc brake of 256mm with dual piston calliper. This braking system effectively controls this hefty machine.

Ride and Handling

According to its size, Honda CB1000R has a relatively light handling. The bike handles really well and gives you positive response at high speeds. It remains grounded thanks to its low ground clearance (130mm) and extended wheelbase of 1445mm. The fatty tyres also hold this bike effectively specially around corners and while changing lanes at high speeds. The bike leans down pretty low and still manages incredible stability at sharp corners. It’s quite exciting and fun to drive this bike at race tracks and on highways.

Verdict

Honda CB1000R is only available in Delhi and Mumbai. Its ex showroom price in Delhi is INR 11.81 lakhs. This bike is certainly priced for few lucky people. Its naked looks and magnificent performance comes with a hefty price tag. But if you can buy one then you will have a memorable lifetime experience with this bike.
