This engine is known for its smooth and linear power delivery, making it comfortable for city riding as well as spirited highway and mountain road adventures. The bike features a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch and offers various riding modes, including Rain, Road, Dynamic, and Dynamic Pro, each catering to different riding conditions. USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The BMW F900R is a compelling addition to the middleweight naked bike segment in India, offering a balance of performance, handling, and comfort. With its 895cc water-cooled inline-twin engine producing 105 bhp and 92 Nm of torque, this bike delivers smooth and predictable power, making it suitable for both city riding and spirited mountain roads. The riding modes, particularly the Dynamic and Dynamic Pro, enhance the riding experience, although the rain mode feels a bit bland. The handling is impressive, with sharp turn-in and stable cornering, thanks to the well-balanced chassis and suspension, along with the grippy Bridgestone Battlax S21 tyres. However, the bikes weight and slightly stiff saddle can be a drawback on less-than-ideal roads. The comprehensive list of add-ons, including adaptive cornering headlights, cruise control, and a 6.5 colour TFT screen, adds to its appeal. Overall, the F900R is a capable roadster that is fun to ride but also comfortable enough for long distances, making it a strong contender in its class.
Price
The BMW F900R is priced competitively in the Indian market, with an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.80 lakh. When you factor in the on-road costs, the price jumps to around Rs 12.43 lakh in Delhi, Rs 12.85 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 12.58 lakh in Kolkata, and Rs 12.74 lakh in Chennai. These prices are approximate and can vary depending on the city and local taxes. For the extra features like cruise control, bi-directional quickshifter, and electronically adjustable rear shock, you would need to opt for the higher variants, which can add another lakh to the price. Despite the costs, the F900R offers a lot of value with its performance, features, and build quality, making it a worthwhile investment for those looking for a versatile and powerful naked bike.
Latest Updates
Sunday, 04 August 2024 05:47 AM BMW Motorrad has introduced the 2024 BMW F 900 R with several updates, including new color options such as Racing Red and Blackstorm Metallic. The bike also features an optional Intelligent Emergency Call system, which adds a SOS button, loudspeaker, and microphone to the handlebar controls. Additionally, the Premium Package now includes an M Endurance Chain and ABS Pro. I believe these updates make the F 900 R a more appealing and safe option for riders.
Sunday, 26 May 2024 05:48 AM In France, BMW Motorrad has launched the F 900 R Sport Edition and F 900 XR Sport Edition, inspired by the M range. These special editions come with new paint jobs, seat covers, rim stickers, and a spoiler, but no performance upgrades. The Sport Edition Pro adds features like Pro high beam headlights and a tire pressure monitoring system. I think these cosmetic changes will attract fans of the M series, even if the performance remains the same.
Thursday, 06 July 2023 08:34 PM The 2024 BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR models will see changes in their color schemes and optional packages. For the F 900 R, the new colors include Racing Red and Light White, while the F 900 XR gets Light White and Racing Blue Metallic 2. The Intelligent Emergency Call feature is now available as a stand-alone option for both models. I believe these updates will keep the bikes fresh and competitive in the mid-size motorcycle segment.
Thursday, 06 July 2023 02:37 PM BMW Motorrad UK is hosting the BMW F 900 R Cup, a racing series where riders compete on identical 105hp F 900 R roadsters. The series includes nine rounds, with the first round in Spain and the rest in the UK. This competition is designed to be accessible for both aspiring and experienced riders. I think this initiative is great for promoting the F 900 R and fostering a community of enthusiasts.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 12:10 AM The mileage of the BMW F900R is a crucial aspect for potential buyers in India, where fuel efficiency is often a key consideration. According to the companys certification, the F900R offers a mileage of 23.81 kmpl, which is respectable given its performance capabilities. In real-world conditions, this mileage can vary based on riding style and road conditions, but it generally stays around the mid-20s. This fuel efficiency, combined with a 13-litre fuel tank, means you can expect to get around 300-320 kilometers on a full tank, which is adequate for both daily commuting and occasional long rides. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient bike in its class, the F900Rs balance of performance and mileage makes it a practical choice. BMW F 900 R Review

06 Nov, 2023 07:39 AM

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

The BMW F900R is a middle-weight naked street bike that replaces the F800R in the German manufacturer's lineup. The motorcycle is a significantly improved product over its predecessor in terms of styling, displacement, performance, electronics, and hardware. The majority of two-wheeler manufacturers have resumed operations in India while adhering to government safety regulations. BMW Motorrad is expected to follow suit in the near future. The F 900 R, a new bike in the roadster range, is the German brand's first BS6-compliant offering.

BMW F900R Design and Style

The F900R, like every other aspect, is vastly different from the F800R in terms of cosmetics. It has a low-slung compact LED headlamp with a tiny visor. Geometric extensions join the chiselled fuel tank, which also serves as a radiator cowl. A single-piece seat sits on the stubby tail section, along with a flat handlebar and slightly rear-set footpegs, to provide comfortable yet marginally aggressive ergonomics.

BMW F900R Engine and Gearbox

The street bike is powered by an 895cc parallel-twin engine with a constant-mesh 6-speed gearbox integrated into the crankcase, producing approximately 105 HP at 8,500 rpm and 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The power is delivered in two modes: rain and road, with optional Dynamic and Dynamic Pro modes available at an additional cost. It only has ASC (automatic stability control) as a standard feature, which prevents excessive wheel spin caused by the hard acceleration in tricky situations.

BMW F900R Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

The suspensions on the new BMW F900R are upside-down Telescopic fork 43mm with a 120/70 ZR17 front tyre and cast aluminium dual swing arm & central spring strut & spring preload hydraulically adjustable rebound damping adjustable with a rear tyre. It has a Bridge-type frame or a steel shell construction frame, as well as 17-inch Cast Aluminium Wheels. Front braking is handled by twin 320mm disc brakes with four-piston floating callipers and rear braking is handled by a single 265mm disc brake with a single-piston floating calliper paired with dual-channel ABS.

Instrument Console of BMW F900R

Customers can also select the Ride Modes Pro electronics package, which includes ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and EBC (Engine Braking Control). Other standard features include a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, full-LED lighting, a 12V socket, and adjustable brake and clutch levers.

Key Features of BMW F900R

2024 F900R features include LED tail light and turn indicators, and a full LED headlight with cornering lights (optional). It has two standard ride modes in terms of electronics (Road, Rain) and ASC Automatic Stability Control. You could choose an optional Pro package that includes ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Engine Braking Control (EBC), keyless ignition, and the new engine drag torque control (MSR) and an electronically adjustable mono-shock. The bike also has adjustable brake and clutch levers as well as a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen.

Top Speed and Mileage of BMW F900R

2024 BMW F900R has a top speed of 200 km/h and a WMTC fuel consumption per 100 km of 4.2 L, resulting in mileage of 28.3 km/l. The BMW F 900 R accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.7 seconds.

BMW F900R Colour Options

BMW offers the new F900R in two colour options namely, Hockenheim Silver Metallic/Racing Red and Black Storm Metallic.

BMW F900R Price

As of now, the BMW F900R is available at a starting price of 10.80 lakh (ex-showroom) for the standard version.

BMW F900R Competitors

Top competitors for the new BMW F900R are Benelli TRK 502, BMW F 900 XR, BMW R NineT Scrambler, Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled, Kawasaki Ninja 1000, Kawasaki Versys, Kawasaki Z650 RS, Triumph Speed Twin, and Triumph Bonneville Bobber.

Conclusion

2024 F900R may appear to be the underdog on paper, being more expensive, less powerful, and heavier than anything else in the segment, but the reality is quite different from the saddle. The almost scientific approach to performance ensures that the F900R not only feels faster but is also as fast as anything else in the segment. The same can be said for the rider's triangle and electronics: no excess, just what you need and nothing more. The F900R, in our opinion, is the mature bet in the segment.
