Hero Xtreme Sports (Rear Disc) Review
Quick Review by Maxabout Team
Hero MotoCorp Limited is a world renowned Indian motorcycle and scooter manufacturing company with its headquarters in New Delhi, India. It was started as Hero Honda Motors Limited in 1984 as a joint venture between Indian company Hero Cycles and Japanese company Honda. Together, they have manufactured a lot of successful and praiseworthy bikes until December 2010, when they both decided to went on in separate ways.
Hero MotoCorp Limited was the new name decided by the company on July 29, 2011 along with the development of a new brand identity and logo. Later on, the company acquired 49.2% of shares in a sports motorcycle company, Erik Buell Racing based in East Troy, Wisconsin, USA in July 2013 to enhance their development in the field of motorcycle technology which was certainly faded out a lot after Honda left. It has a total of three manufacturing facilities in India based at Gurgaon and Dharuhera in Haryana and at Haridwar in Uttarakhand. It also has an extensive sales and service network with over 3,000 dealerships and service points all over India.
Recently, Hero MotoCorp Limited has unveiled a new variant to already available Hero Xtreme with the name of 'Xtreme Sports' with some cosmetic and technical changes in New Delhi on January 29, 2014 along with four other products. As the name suggests, Hero Xtreme Sports is a refreshed variant of regular Xtreme to compete with other brands in the already thriving 150cc segment. All these five products were showcased and completely unveiled at 2014 Delhi Auto Expo in February and Xtreme Sports is now available in the showrooms with a price tag of INR 72,625. Let's see what is new for us in this commuter.
Design and Style
Hero Xtreme Sports has got a few cosmetic changes to give it a sporty look and we have to say that they have been quite successful in that. It has got a stylish new headlamp with LED position lights, new body graphics, updated visor and mudguard, new LED tail light, an updated and well sculpted fuel tank with Xtreme Sports logo, step-up seat, a nicely positioned handlebar and footrests, self as well as kick start, a new maintenance free battery, sporty dual colored rear view mirrors, 18-inch cast wheels with 80/100 front and 110/90 rear tubeless tires, stylish silencer and front and rear bullet side indicators.
Instrument Console
Also, a side stand indicator is added to its instrument panel which already includes a digital fuel gauge and speedometer, an analogue tachometer, two digital trip meters, a pass light and a low fuel and battery indicator.
Dimensions and Weight
It has a length of 2100mm, a width of 780mm and a height of 1080mm as its new dimensions and has a good ground clearance of 163mm for a bump-free ride. It has a kerb weight of 148 kgs (in case of rear drum brakes) and 149kgs (in case of rear disk brakes).
Engine and Gearbox
Hero Xtreme Sports has got the same but a little tweaked 149.2cc, 4-stroke, single cylinder, OHC based air-cooled engine with an increased maximum power of 15.62 bhp at 8500 rpm and maximum torque of 13.5 Nm at 7000 rpm and is mated with a five speed gearbox. Hero Xtreme Sports has got the same braking system which includes a 240mm diameter single disk brake at front and 220mm rear disc brake or a 130mm diameter internal expanding shoe type drum brake at rear.
Suspension
The suspension system consists of telescopic hydraulic at front and an adjustable gas reservoir swing arm at rear.
Variants and Shades
Hero Xtreme Sports is available in 2 variant - Single Disc and Double Disc. It is available in five beautiful shades which includes Black/Red, Pyro Orange, Mercuric Silver, Panther Black and Fiery Red at an ex-showroom, Delhi price of INR 72,625 for single disc model and INR 75,725 for double disc model, which may vary.
