Ducati Monster 797

About
The Ducati Monster 797 is a significant addition to the Monster lineup, designed to be an accessible entry point for riders upgrading from smaller bikes. It features the same 803 cc L-Twin engine as the Ducati Scrambler, producing 72 bhp and 67 Nm of torque, which is well-suited for both city riding and highway cruising. The bike boasts classic Ducati styling with a bulbous fuel tank, fat forks, and an exposed trellis frame, making it a head-turner on the roads. The handling is exceptional, with the bike feeling stable and planted through corners, thanks to its sporty steering geometry and Pirelli tyres. The braking system, equipped with M4.32 Brembo brakes, is another highlight, offering superb feel and bite. While the suspension is on the stiffer side and the seat could be more comfortable for long rides, the Monster 797 remains a great option for those seeking a fun, yet manageable, big bike experience in India.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Ducati Monster 797 is a compelling option for those looking to step into the world of high-performance motorcycles without being overwhelmed. Its 803 cc L-Twin engine, though not as powerful as some of its competitors, delivers a punchy and manageable performance that is perfect for both city riding and highway cruising. The bikes handling is its forte, with slick and precise cornering capabilities that make it a joy to ride. However, the stiffer suspension can be a bit harsh on city roads, and the lack of advanced electronics and features might make it feel a bit dated. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Monster 797s classic Ducati styling, quality cycle parts, and exceptional braking system make it a solid choice. It strikes a balance between being forgiving for new riders and exciting enough to keep seasoned riders entertained.
Price
The Ducati Monster 797 is priced at around Rs. 8.05 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi, which translates to an on-road price of approximately Rs. 10.16 lakh in Mumbai, considering various state-specific taxes and other costs. While this pricing positions it competitively against rivals like the Kawasaki Z900 and Triumph Street Triple S, its essential to note that these competitors offer more power and features. However, for those who value the Ducati brand and its unique styling, the Monster 797 is a worthwhile investment. The price reflects the quality of the bikes components, including its robust engine and superior braking system, making it a good value for money in the Indian market.
Latest Updates
Saturday, 22 July 2023 11:26 AM The Ducati Monster 797 has been discontinued, marking the end of an era for the air/oil-cooled Monster series. This decision was partly due to emissions regulations, although Ducati managed to keep other models like the Scrambler 800 in production. I think this is a sad goodbye to a unique and characterful bike.
Monday, 17 September 2018 03:31 AM A special edition of the Ducati Monster 797 was unveiled in India, customized by Rajputana Customs to mark 25 years of the Ducati Monster. This custom bike featured cosmetic changes and was a unique tribute to the Monsters legacy. Its always exciting to see custom takes on iconic bikes.
Tuesday, 01 May 2018 08:07 AM The Ducati Monster 797 was known for its retro-feeling engine and lower-power output compared to other Monster models. It had a 803cc air/oil-cooled engine producing 73 hp and 49 lb-ft of torque. This made it a simpler, more entry-level option within the Ducati lineup. I think this simplicity was part of its charm.
Saturday, 28 April 2018 06:58 PM The Monster 797 came with modern features such as ABS, an LCD display, and an optional Ducati Multimedia System for phone connectivity. However, it lacked advanced features like traction control and ride modes. This balance of old and new made it an interesting choice for riders.
Tuesday, 24 April 2018 02:27 PM The bike had a cable-operated clutch, which was a departure from the hydraulic clutches found in other Monster models. Additionally, it featured a modern oval-shaped headlight, differing from the traditional round unit of older Monsters. These changes were part of Ducatis effort to keep the bike relevant.
Tuesday, 17 October 2017 02:49 PM The Ducati Monster 797 was positioned as an entry-level bike, offering a lower-power alternative to the more powerful Monster 821 and 1200 models. This strategy aimed to attract new riders to the Ducati brand. I think this was a smart move to expand their customer base.
Wednesday, 14 June 2017 04:26 PM In India, the Ducati Monster 797 was launched in 2017, priced at Rs. 7.77 lakh, making it an attractive entry-level option for Ducati enthusiasts. The bike featured a 803cc L-twin engine, ABS, and sport bike-spec brakes. I believe this was a great move to make Ducati more accessible to a wider audience.
Saturday, 27 August 2016 04:17 PM The Monster 797 had sport bike-spec brakes with twin 320mm discs and Brembo M4.32 calipers, ensuring strong braking performance. This, combined with its adjustable rear suspension, made it a capable handler on the road.
Saturday, 27 August 2016 05:27 PM The bikes engine, though old, provided a unique character with its Desmodromic timing and air/oil-cooled design. This gave the Monster 797 a distinct feel that many riders appreciated. I believe this character is what made it stand out in the market.
Saturday, 27 August 2016 01:29 PM Despite its lower power output, the Monster 797 was praised for its bottom-end grunt and middleweight performance, making it a fun and manageable bike for everyday riding. This made it a great option for both new and experienced riders.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 03:05 AM The mileage of the Ducati Monster 797 is not its strongest suit, given its performance-oriented nature. With an 803 cc engine producing 72 bhp, the bike is not designed for fuel efficiency. In real-world conditions, you can expect an average mileage of around 15-20 kml, depending on your riding style and the terrain. For city commutes, the mileage might be on the lower side due to the engines air-cooled design and the need for frequent gear changes. However, on the highways, the bike can deliver slightly better mileage if ridden at moderate speeds. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, the Monster 797s performance and handling make up for its relatively lower mileage.
