How does a KTM Duke 490 stack up against a Honda CB500F?
14 January 2025 07:08
Both are excellent commuter bikes, but the CB500F would likely be a better one, and the Duke 490 will rule the twisties on the weekend.
How good would the KTM Duke 490 be as an up spec from the 390 for A2 license holders?
14 January 2025 07:08
For A2 riders, it’d be perfect! Less power with the restrictor, but more power when derestricted, but still manageable with the restrictor.
Is the KTM Duke 490 project dead, or has it gotten delayed?
14 January 2025 07:08
The 490 project was a loser from the get-go. Rather, KTM should be concentrating on refining their current models rather than stuffing yet another engine size into their lineup.
Is KTM's 690 SMC-R worth the premium price over the Japanese supermotos like the DRZ400SM?
14 January 2025 06:37
I have both, and I have to say, I had more fun on the DRZ. The KTM is too refined, too powerful for real supermoto hooliganism. Plus, you don’t have to worry about dropping a DRZ.
Why is there so much chatter around the infamous false neutral issue on the KTM 690 SMC R?
14 January 2025 06:37
The first time it happened, it scared the crap out of me, but now I just laugh it off. That’s part of the bike’s quirky character. If you can't take a little bit of excitement, maybe keep it to a Honda.
What is the difference between the KTM 690 SMC-R and more traditional touring bikes when it comes to long-distance rides?
14 January 2025 06:37
In fact, I like it better for long rides than bigger bikes. It’s lightweight, so you don’t get so fatigued in twisties, and it’s comfy upright. All you have to do is add a small windscreen, and you’re good to go.
Is the KTM 690 SMC R a good all-rounder to commute to the city and go on weekend adventures?
14 January 2025 06:37
Having owned both adventure bikes and supermotos, I think the 690 SMC-R is a nice middle ground. It's not a dirt bike, but it's more capable on the road and still light enough to have a bit of fun off-road. Don't expect ADV bike comfort; just don't.
How do the KTM 690 SMC-R and Husqvarna 701 Supermoto stack up in real-world riding?
14 January 2025 06:37
Basically, they're the same bike with different plastics. If someone tells you there’s a huge difference, they’re probably just trying to justify their purchase. They’re both awesome; just choose which one you think looks cooler.
Is the KTM 990 Adventure too much bike for a beginner?
14 January 2025 06:19
If you're only riding on the road, it’s fine. It’s too heavy and powerful for most newbies, but for true ADV riding with off-road sections, it does the job.
What mods are the absolute musts for a KTM 990 Adventure?
14 January 2025 06:19
Don't mod it at all! But keep it stock and enjoy it as KTM intended. You don’t need to mod a good bike. Too many people ruin good bikes with unnecessary mods.
Is the KTM 990 Adventure still relevant in 2016’s ADV market?
14 January 2025 06:19
Absolutely! Off-road, the 990 Adventure is still a beast. Okay, it doesn’t have all the fancy electronics, but that’s just part of the fun. But you actually have to know how to ride.
Why does the KTM 990 Adventure have fuel pump problems?
14 January 2025 06:19
It’s a design flaw, and I’m not talking about a physical design flaw, but a design flaw in the plan for the game itself. They should have issued a recall, but they did not. It's an otherwise awesome bike, but it's the biggest drawback.
So, how would the KTM 990 Adventure fare on a long-distance tour?
14 January 2025 06:19
However, with the right mods, it’s excellent. On mine, I’ve done 1000-mile days. All the differences between the comfort seat, taller windscreen, and aux fuel tank.
But why does the KTM 250 Adventure lack low-end torque?
13 January 2025 07:11
For someone who rides in heavy city traffic, not having low-end grunt is very frustrating. It’s never one gear; I’m always changing gears just to keep up with the flow. I might look into changing the sprocket to help with this.
Can the KTM 250 Adventure go touring?
13 January 2025 07:11
Not great for touring but okay. With the small tank, you’re stopping to refuel more often, and with the lack of power, you’re getting frustrated when you’re trying to pass on the highway. A fine thing for weekend trips, but I wouldn't want to cross the country on it.
Is the KTM 250 Adventure worth the price premium?
13 January 2025 07:11
At first I was skeptical about the price, but after having it for a year I am convinced. The cost alone is justified by the versatility—it’s like having multiple bikes in one. And the service intervals are longer than most competitors, saving you money in the long run.
Is the KTM 250 Adventure a worthy hype for city riding?
13 January 2025 07:11
It's a mixed bag. The 250 Adventure is a blast on the weekends when you want to get out of the city, but it’s a bit much for daily commutes. However, they have a godsend when it comes to ground clearance, as those nasty speed bumps we have everywhere will never seem as bad as they used to.
As a tall beginner rider, how does the KTM 250 Adventure compare to the Duke 250?
13 January 2025 07:11
That really depends on the type of riding you want to do. If you are sticking to city streets and the occasional highway run, the Duke is perfect. If you are a tall rider, however, the Adventure is a better choice if you are planning to do any light off-roading or long tours.
Can a Royal Enfield Roadster 450 hold its ground against the established players like the KTM 390 Duke in the performance naked segment?
13 January 2025 07:05
It doesn't have to be the fastest on paper to the KTM. For riders who want performance but don't want aggressive ergonomics, the Roadster will be the ticket.
Can the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S be used for long-distance touring?
13 January 2025 07:02
It’s comfortable enough, but the vibration can get pretty annoying on really long days. A lot of help was given by bar risers and rubber footpeg inserts.
