What is the difference between the KTM 690 SMC-R and more traditional touring bikes when it comes to long-distance rides?

Primarily a supermoto, the KTM 690 SMC-R is geared towards agility and performance over long-distance comfort. But many riders want to know how it holds up for longer trips or multi-day adventures. An upright riding position and lightweight design might be considered advantages for touring, but the bike’s hard seat, single-cylinder engine vibration, and lack of wind protection could be a problem. A few riders have upgraded their 690 SMC-Rs with aftermarket seats, windscreens, and luggage options to make touring more comfortable. So how does it really compare to purpose-built touring bikes when it comes to covering lots of ground? As such, let’s see if this supermoto can make the grade as a long-distance machine, if it can hold its own, and explore the pros and cons of using it for longer rides.

I have done a few 500+ mile days on my 690 SMC-R. You could do it, but you'll definitely feel it more than on a big touring bike. Frequent stops and a good aftermarket seat are the key.
