Yamaha R15M Review

09 Nov, 2023 05:07 PM

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

Yamaha made the sportbike genre accessible to Indians many years ago with the introduction of the R15. While we were pleased with the R15 V3, which debuted in 2018, Yamaha decided to update it this year. The R15M is the result of Yamaha's racing DNA, which has produced legends like the M1, R1M, and R-series. It has stunning new graphics, a 3D Emblem, a Special Seat, and a FI engine with the most advanced aids and technology.

Yamaha R15M Design and Style

Yamaha has designed the new R15M motorcycle flawlessly in every way. One may quickly fall in love with the body architecture and the LED position lights, which provide a sense of elegance. Because of its aerodynamic design, the rider can reach their top speed as quickly as possible. Yamaha R15M comes in two models, both of which complement the vehicle's design. Because of its White Metallic finish, Yamaha R15 has a simple appearance. The headlamp unit's bifunctionality is an added bonus. The bike's speed is demonstrated in every way imaginable.

With the introduction of the YZF-R15M World GP 60th Anniversary Edition Yamaha made a statement. The new motorcycle is dressed in a traditional white and red colour scheme. It comes with a gold finish on alloy wheels and a gold tuning fork emblem from the Yamaha factory race bike. Black levers and the special anniversary badging are present on the fuel tank.

2024 Yamaha R15M ranks alongside its legendary forefathers. Even when the dimensions are taken into account, the Yamaha R15M does not fall short of young people's expectations. The Yamaha R15M has standard dimensions of 1990 mm in length and 725 mm in width. With a seat height of 815 mm, it is suitable for all types of riders. The bike has a 1325 mm wheelbase and an 11 litres fuel tank, which is sufficient. When combined with the 170 mm of ground clearance, the Yamaha R15M is an enticing combination of proportions that is ready to rule any type of road.

Yamaha R15M Engine and Gearbox

The engine's performance and mileage are the most important aspects of a motorcycle. Yamaha, as one of the industry's pioneers, performed admirably in this regard. The bike is powered by a 155cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, 4-valve engine which comes with a 6-speed transmission system. This liquid-cooled engine generates a max power of 18.4 HP and a peak torque of 14.2 Nm. Yamaha R15M is a popular choice among riding enthusiasts because it excels in some areas while falling short in others. Although the Yamaha R15M is not intended for off-road use its engine can satisfy your off-road desires by transporting you as efficiently as possible.

Yamaha R15M Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

Yamaha equipped the R15M with 37mm telescopic upside-down forks (USD Forks) up front and linked-type monocross suspension in the back. The captivating components that comprise the Yamaha R15M are carried by a Deltabox chassis. The upside-down front forks increase rigidity and provide stability during high-speed turns or braking.

The R15M has a 282 mm single disc in the front and a 220 mm single rear disc brake with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). It allows precise braking and limited wheel lockups even at high speeds. This ensures a confident and inspiring ride for the rider which improves the thrill of the ride. The front tyre is a 100/80-R17 M/C 52P, and the rear tyre is a 140/70R-17 M/C 66H radial. It has flexible side walls for better cornering grip and superior shock absorbing capacity for a more comfortable ride. You don't forget to remove the side stand during those quick rides thanks to the built-in side stand engine cut-off switch.

Key Features of Yamaha R15M

2024 R15M comes with a quick-shifter for quick clutchless upshifts, a golden upside-down front fork, traction control, Yamaha Connect with Bluetooth, and an LCD instrument cluster with track & street mode. Some other elements borrowed from the YZF-R1 model are among the features of the Yamaha YZF-R15 M. A linked-type monocross rear suspension, delta box frame, and dual-channel ABS, are also included.

The new Yamaha motorcycles have been improved on the inside and out. The bike's incredible features are what truly set it apart. The switch for the side-stand engine is one such component that requires widespread attention. This capability is only available when the side stand is removed. Many accidents that occur as a result of the side-stand not being disengaged can be avoided by using this function.

The twin horn enables the horn to produce a dual tone with both higher and lower decibels. The quick shift allows the rider to change gears without using a clutch. The concept of clutchless gearing will make riding much easier. The use of a traction control system reduces the likelihood of wheel spin.

The integration of bikes into the Y-Connect app is a game changer. A larger LCD digital dash has a Bluetooth module that allows you to receive call alerts, message notifications, and a few other features. The Yamaha R15M now has a lap timer that can be activated while in Track mode.

Top Speed and Mileage of Yamaha R15M

2024 Yamaha R15M has a top speed of around 150 km/h and estimated mileage of 40 km/l. The sports bike can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds.

Yamaha R15M Colour Options

Yamaha offers the new R15 in two different colour schemes. The Metallic Grey version costs Rs 1,89,900, while the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition costs Rs 1,91,900.

Yamaha R15M Competitors

In the Indian market, the new Yamaha R15 M has no direct competitors. But the following bikes are comparable to the R15M: Bajaj Pulsar RS200, KTM RC 125, Suzuki Gixxer SF, and Yamaha MT-15.

Conclusion

2024 Yamaha R15M remains a reliable tool for riders looking to improve their track-riding abilities. It is now more ergonomically friendly and spacious enough for larger riders. Traction control and a quick shifter only add to the bike's athleticism. So, despite the price increase, the R15M is a worthwhile proposition in our opinion.

My Journey with R15 V3

It was the year 2018, My Bajaj Pulsar had completed 15 years, so I was looking on the net for a new bike. When I saw it for the first time, an arrow of love went across my heart, although it had some shortcomings, in spite of this, I bought it and thought whatever will happen will be seen, the only drawback was only the headlight and riding position. Today is the month of 2021 September and today I am claiming that there is no match for it. I have taken it on the hills, on the highways, and on the rough village roads, but its performance is amazing, although the riding position is so aggressive that it hurts in the back but the performance is such that this thing is forgivable, I do exercise continuously to keep me fit to ride this beast and that's why I am fit because this bike is for the youth and for long running you must be fit as youth to ride it, so today I am also fit because of it, thank you for this. Good mileage, superior performance, looks, good reliable engine make it a clear winner wherever you go. This is my journey with R15 V3.
