Suzuki Intruder (Old Model)

About
The Suzuki Intruder 150 is a cruiser motorcycle that stands out with its unique design and comfortable riding experience. It shares many components with the Suzuki Gixxer 155, including the same 154.9cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC 2-valve engine, which produces 14.8 PS of power and 14 Nm of torque. The bike features a 5-speed gearbox, 41mm front forks, and a 7-step adjustable monoshock at the rear. The chassis has been retuned for a longer wheelbase and increased rake at the front, giving it typical cruiser ergonomics. The Intruder 150 also comes with single-channel ABS as standard, though a dual-channel system would have been preferable. The bikes design, while polarizing, adds to its appeal, especially with its chunky front end and minimal chrome treatment. Overall, its a great option for those seeking a stylish, comfortable, and fuel-efficient cruiser for city and short-distance riding.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Suzuki Intruder 150 is an intriguing addition to the cruiser segment in India, particularly for those who prioritize style and comfort over raw power. While it may not be the most powerful bike in its class, it compensates with its smooth and tractable engine, which is essentially the same as the Gixxer 155 but tweaked for better low-end performance. The bikes design is a mixed bag it looks muscular and intimidating from the front, but the rear could have been better proportioned. The riding dynamics are commendable, with a light and nimble feel that belies its cruiser nature. However, the single-channel ABS and the lack of significant engine tweaks are notable drawbacks. Overall, its a great option for city riding and short trips, but highway enthusiasts might find it lacking.
Price
When the Suzuki Intruder 150 was launched, it was priced competitively to attract buyers looking for a stylish cruiser without the hefty price tag of larger engines. The ex-showroom price was around 1 lakh, which translated to an on-road price of approximately 1.2 lakh to 1.3 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing strategy was a smart move by Suzuki, as it positioned the Intruder 150 as a viable alternative to the Bajaj Avenger 150, while also leveraging the cost savings from using components from the Gixxer 155. For the price, you get a well-designed cruiser with good handling and a comfortable ride, making it a good value for money.
Latest Updates
Monday, 18 December 2023 01:50 PM The Suzuki Intruder 155 has been discontinued in India due to lackluster sales, failing to match the demand of its rival, the Bajaj Avenger 220. This decision marks the end of an era for a bike that was introduced in 2017 with features like projector headlamps and ABS. I think this move is a strategic one, allowing Suzuki to focus on more popular models.
Thursday, 09 July 2020 05:06 PM Suzuki Motorcycle India increased the price of the BS6 Suzuki Intruder by Rs. 2,141 in July 2020, reflecting broader price hikes across their motorcycle range. This adjustment was part of a larger pricing strategy that also affected the Gixxer 250 and Gixxer 155 models.
Saturday, 06 April 2019 05:46 AM In April 2019, Suzuki launched the 2019 Suzuki Intruder in India, priced at Rs. 1.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This update brought minor cosmetic changes but retained the engine and underpinnings of the popular Suzuki Gixxer. I believe this was a smart move to keep the model fresh without significant investments.
Friday, 28 September 2018 01:55 PM Suzuki introduced a special edition model of the Intruder in September 2018, available in both carbureted and fuel-injected formats. The Intruder SP and Intruder FI SP models were priced starting at Rs. 1 lakh, offering a unique blend of style and performance. This move was likely to boost sales and attract more buyers.
Saturday, 17 March 2018 03:48 AM The Suzuki Intruder Fuel Injection (FI) variant was launched in India in March 2018, priced at Rs. 1.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This variant saw no mechanical changes but added fuel injection to the existing 155 cc motor. I think this was a step towards improving efficiency and performance.
Saturday, 16 December 2017 01:51 AM The Suzuki Intruder won the Entry Cruiser Motorcycle of the Year award at the 2018 NDTV Carandbike Awards. Launched in November 2017, the bike was recognized for its features like projector headlamps, LED taillamps, and ABS. This award highlighted its competitive edge in the entry-level cruiser segment.
Tuesday, 07 November 2017 12:25 AM Suzuki Motorcycle India launched the Suzuki Intruder in November 2017, priced at Rs. 98,340 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike used the engine and underpinnings of the Suzuki Gixxer but with a distinct cruiser design. I believe this was a bold move to enter the cruiser market with a compact yet stylish bike.
Saturday, 01 January 2005 07:32 PM The Suzuki Intruder series, which was replaced by the Boulevard range in 2005, had a significant presence in India and other markets. The Intruder models, such as the VS Intruder 700 and 1400, were known for their 4-stroke V-twin engines and distinctive styling. I think these bikes left a lasting impression on cruiser enthusiasts.
Wednesday, 01 January 1992 11:40 AM In the 1990s, Suzuki updated the Intruder 800 model with a larger radiator, larger forks, and other mechanical improvements. This update helped the bike remain competitive in the cruiser market. I believe these changes were crucial in extending the models lifespan.
Tuesday, 01 January 1985 06:25 AM The Suzuki Intruder was initially introduced in North America in 1985 with models like the Intruder 700 and 1400. These bikes were designed to compete with Harley-Davidson and other Japanese cruisers. I think the Intruders debut marked a significant entry into the cruiser segment for Suzuki.
Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 11:06 PM The mileage of the Suzuki Intruder 150 is one of its strong points, especially considering its cruiser design. With its 154.9cc single-cylinder engine, the bike delivers a respectable fuel efficiency. In city conditions, you can expect around 40-45 kmpl, while on the highways, it can go up to 50-55 kmpl. These figures are quite impressive given the bikes weight and the cruiser ergonomics. The smooth engine and well-tuned gearing contribute to this efficient fuel consumption, making the Intruder 150 a practical choice for daily commuting and short trips.
