Summary Suzuki Intruder is based on the Gixxer as it gets the same 154.9cc, single cylinder engine producing 14.6 BHP @ 8000 rpm and 14 Nm @ 6000 rpm. It has an all new body design that looks huge from certain angles. Suzuki offers single channel ABS on the motorcycle. It comes with a carburetor fed engine and shares other parts like suspension, tyres, wheels and instrument console with the popular Gixxer series. The 150cc cruiser rivals none other than Avenger 150 but claims almost INR 20,000 over the on-road price of Bajaj's youngest Avenger.

Suzuki Intruder 150 Review

14 Dec, 2017 11:37 AM

Overview

Suzuki Motorcycles India has entered the 150 cc cruiser motorcycle segment in India by launching the Intruder 150. The bike is no doubt inspired by its bigger sibling Intruder 1800, though, it has the same engine and the underpinnings of the very famous Suzuki Gixxer. The Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL) have been finally successful in launching a powerful cruiser at an entry level price for providing you an ultimate neo-retro experience. The cruiser is available in India at a price range of INR 98,340 (ex showroom Delhi).

The bike is a sure shot head turner with its striking details and the retro look. With its wacky exhaust, the flowing side panels and the headlight cowl, the new cruiser is bound to be a big hit. The cruiser is powered by a 154.9cc, single cylinder engine producing 14.6 BHP @ 8000 rpm and 14 Nm @ 6000 rpm.

Design & Style

The new Suzuki Intruder 150 cruiser has a very appealing retro inspired look that is bound to grab attention on the road. The Suzuki Intruder 150 gets LED projector headlight, claimed aerodynamic tank, sporty twin exhaust, all-digital instrument cluster lifted straight from the Gixxer and LED tail-lamp. With its stunning looks and design, the cruiser is termed as the certified blockbuster that too from day one.

Engine & Gearbox

The new Suzuki Intruder 150 is powered by the 154.9cc, 4 stroke, single-cylinder engine which also does duty on the Gixxer 150 churning out a maximum power of 14.6 BHP @ 8,000 rpm and an utmost torque of 14 NM @ 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.

Mileage

The 150cc engine offers a smooth and crisp response just like the Gixxer and a refined gearbox. The fuel efficiency of the Intruder varies between 40-45 kmpl (approximately) and offers a top speed of 115 kmph. The engine feels torquey and ultra-refined and progress is easy without needing too many gear changes.

Kerb Weight

With its bulbous looks, heavy chest and huge proportions, the cruiser does not have a hefty kerb weight at 148 kgs. With a seat height of 740 mm, it is bound to offer you a comfortable riding experience. The tyres span 110/70 R17 in the front and 140/60 R17 at the rear. The Gixxer style tyres are small for all that mass and extensive bodywork though.

Instrument Console

It features a digital tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. The digital trip meter and the LED indicators accompanies the look of the cruiser rather well.

Suspension & Brakes

The suspension setup comprises of telescopic forks up front and a mono-shock unit at the rear. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes at both ends, with an optional single-channel ABS from the Gixxer SF at a marginal price range. Ride comfort is quite good and rough surfaces are absorbed well, but the rear shock does have slightly less travel due to the new sub-frame and larger air-box. Though it offers single channel ABS, but works rather well with only minimally intrusive pulsing on the brake lever when activated.

Colors/Shades

The all new Suzuki Intruder 150 is available in India in two striking colors:- Glass Sparkle Black/Metallic Matte Titanium Silver, Metallic Oort Grey/Metallic Matte Black.

Ride & Handling

The Intruder offers a relaxed, feet-front riding position that is accommodating for tall riders, while the low 740mm seat height means it will be friendly to riders of all sizes. It is easy to ride at a low speed and also gives you a stable handling at higher speeds. The cruiser offers a decent level of corner clearance and with that sporty suspension, you are bound to experience the most stable ride even on a windy day.  At low speeds, the bike feels surprisingly light and agile for something that looks so big and this should make it friendly to handle in traffic.

Conclusion

The new Suzuki Intruder 150 is competing against the very popular Bajaj Avenger Street 150 in the market and has already created ripples in the entry level cruiser motorcycle market. With its stunning details, retro design and an amazing macho look, the new Suzuki Intruder 150 is a much more premium and desirable alternative. Although, the design and the style is quite polarizing, it still has gathered a much larger fan following.
