USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 is a bike that embodies the quintessential Harley-Davidson cool factor, but it comes with its own set of compromises. The bikes design is undoubtedly stunning, with its slim profile, massive 240-section rear tyre, and generous chrome accents. However, this aesthetic appeal is matched by a riding experience that can be quite demanding. The seating position, while cool, can become painful over extended periods, especially on Indias rough roads. The suspension, though improved, still struggles with undulations and tight corners. Despite these challenges, the Breakouts powerful Milwaukee 117 V-twin engine delivers a thrilling ride with its immense torque and smooth low-vibration character. For those who can afford its hefty price tag and are willing to overlook its practical limitations, the Breakout offers an exclusive and unique riding experience that is hard to match.
Price
The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 is priced at 30.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India), which places it firmly in the premium segment of motorcycles. When you factor in additional costs such as road tax, registration, and insurance, the on-road price can easily exceed 35 lakh. This is a significant investment, but for those who value the exclusivity and the distinctive Harley-Davidson experience, it might be worth it. The price reflects the bikes high-quality components, powerful engine, and the brands reputation for building iconic motorcycles. However, its crucial to consider the overall cost of ownership, including maintenance and running costs, before making a decision.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 11:05 AM The Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.8 kmpl, which is relatively modest given its large engine and heavy build. For a bike of this caliber, the mileage is not a primary concern for most buyers, but its still an important factor to consider for those who plan to use it frequently. The fuel tank capacity of 18.9 litres helps in extending the range between fuel stops, but the overall running costs will still be higher compared to more fuel-efficient options.

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

The new age Breakout, a soft tail cruiser bike form Harley Davidson is all set to enter our Indian bike market this year. Let’s get into the detailing of this premium cruiser bike.

Exterior

Only few cruiser bikes look as stylish and macho as Breakout. The heavy usage of chrome and gloss black powder coat on this bike simply gives it aggressive looks. A round shaped headlight has been framed in between its low positioned front forks. Unlike other cruiser bikes, Breakout features short forks and flat handle bar. The chrome finished rear view mirrors are mounted on its handlebar while the orange colored side indicators are placed just above its hand levers. The bike uses a simple front fender which not only gives it a retro look but also goes well with its gloss black coated 10-spoke alloy wheels. The racing stripes around its wheels add sporty character to Breakout while the chrome finishing on every second spoke makes it look premium. Move to the side of the bike and you will be attracted by the amazing combined work of chrome and gloss black coating on its twin cam engine. The visual charm of the bike is further enhanced by its lean fuel tank which gets top quality of paint job. The running black colored lines and chrome 3D emblem on this fuel tank looks attractive and grabs your attention easily. The low positioned seats and rear cowl looks extremely sporty on this bike. The rear cowl also features 3 in 1 lights which act as side indicators as well as tail light of this bike. The extremely short rear fender of Breakout goes well with its wide rear tyre and gives macho look to this bike.

Instrument Console

Harley Davidson Softail Breakout has an analogue instrument console which features a round pod for its analogue speedometer and odometer. The bike also features low oil, fuel warning and gear position indicator.

Engine and Gearbox

The new age Breakout is powered by a Twin Cam, 1690cc engine. This 4-stroke, fuel injected engine generates Bore and Stroke of 98.4mm and 111.1mm respectively. This is the same engine which also supplies power to its sibling Blackline however; Harley-Davidson has re-tuned this engine for improved acceleration. The maximum torque production of this engine is of 130 Nm which arrives at 3000 rpm. This engine is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox which comes with a gear shift pattern of one gear down and five gears up.

Acceleration and Performance

It’s a heavyweight bike and to deal with this issue, Harley as equipped it with an equally powerful engine which can easily take the heavy weight of Breakout. The 130 Nm of torque kicks in as early as 3000 rpm which avoids turbo lag in any gear at any speed. The bike uses short spaced gear ratios which adequately supplies power to this bike. It can reach the top speed of 177 km/hr and touches 0-100 km.hr in less than 8 seconds. The strong mid-range of this bike allows it to give tough competition to its competitors. The engine picks up easily and never keeps you waiting for power. The linear power delivery is best enjoyed around 3000-4000 rpm. The smooth gearbox makes it quite easy for you to change its gears frequently. The engine gives you instant throttle reaction which is quite helpful in city driving. Breakout feels happy to be rev hard as it never feels strained and shows high level of refinement.

Mileage

With such heavy weight and powerful engine, fuel figures are expected to be very low. It may give you a mileage of around 8 km/ltr.

Comfort while Driving Harley Davidson Softail Breakout

The low positioned seat of Breakout makes it easy for you to handle this bike properly. The seat is stuffed with high quality of fabrics which provides you high level of comfort. The low positioned seat also allows you to put your feet down quickly whenever needed. The stretched legs feels quite relaxed on long journeys thanks to its front set foot pegs. The rider also gets clear view of roads and instrument console. The wide handlebar is quite easy to reach and offers you firm palm grip. The vibration less handle bar also gives you great confidence at high speeds. The bike comes with top quality of plastic buttons which are quite easy to use and adds premium touch to this bike.

Storage Space and Safety Features

There is almost no storage space in this bike. It comes with some safety features like bright headlight, pass button and security system which senses your movement and locks/unlocks Breakout automatically.

Suspension and Braking System

Breakout features 43mm fully adjustable telescopic forks at its front and hidden horizontally placed rear shock absorbers. The bike has disc brakes on its both wheels and comes with optional ABS. The front brake has a 4-piston calliper while it comes with a 2-piston calliper at the back.

Ride and Handling

Breakout has a low ground clearance of 120 mm which improves its aerodynamics while it extended wheelbase of 1710 mm gives it stability at high speeds. The ground stability further increases with its strong suspension system. Due to low ground clearance and long length, the bike lacks low speed stability though. The bike offers light handling on highways and never loses contact with road. The wide tyres also provide good grip to this bike and makes it stable around corners. It’s quite hard to steer this bike at slows speeds and requires effort from your side to steer it accurately. The braking system gives you complete control over this machine and with optional ABS, things are even better.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The bike has 21 inches wheel at its front and R18 size of tyre at the back. Harley is likely to offer two variants of this bike in two different colors.

Verdict

If Breakout makes its way to India then it will be priced around INR 18 lakhs. The unique appearance of this bike proves to be its biggest USP and with its powerful performance and impressive ride and handling, it can surely attract few buyers.
