Yamaha M-SLAZ Review
Quick Review by Maxabout Team
Yamaha recently launched the much talked street fighter of the year, M-Slaz 150 in Thailand. The M-Slaz 150 comes with its whole new identity and shares a few bits with the current generation of Yamaha R15. The motorcycle uses all the latest technologies available in the street 150cc segment and comes with an attractive price tag.
Design and Style
The naked street fighter gets an oddly shaped, attractive front fascia with lower positioned headlight and a separate pilot headlamp. The side profile gets a sharp ideal naked styled fuel tank and 5x2 spoke alloy wheels. The rear end side view is a bit similar to the R15 and ends into a totally different LED tail light. The exhaust design has been purely carried over from the R15, with its golden USD forks presenting a different story than all the other parts painted in serious shades. The early ending tyre hugger is a welcome move over the fully covering unit on the Yamaha R15.
Dimensions and Weight
The motorcycle measures 1955mm in length, 795mm in width and 1065mm in height. It comes with a wheelbase of 1350mm and gets a ground clearance of 164mm. The bike weighs 135 kg with all the fluids and comes with a 10.2 liter fuel tank.
Instrument Console
The super bike style, full LED back-lit compact instrument console not just only saves the weight but even provide all the required values with more more accuracy than the traditional needle type consoles. All the signals are placed over the screen which displays speedometer reading to the right and tachometer reading to the left. Below comes the clock, odometer and trip-meter readings with the digital fuel gauge at the extreme right.
Engine and Gearbox
The engine on the new M-Slaz is the same trusted and tried 149cc, liquid cooled and fuel injected unit producing 16.09 Bhp @ 8500 rpm and 14.3 NM @ 7500 rpm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and performs the same as the one on the Yamaha R15. The deltabox frame being used is also the same as that being used under the R15.
Brakes and Suspension
The braking on both front and rear uses disc brakes of undisclosed sizes whereas the lack of ABS has been confirmed. The bike uses a USD front suspension whereas the rear suspension is swing arm type. The front type measures 110/70-17 whereas the rear is a 130/70-17 unit.
Shades and Expected Price
The M-Slaz 150 is being offered in 4 shades namely Black, Red, Silver with Green inserts and Blue with White inserts. The same is being offered for 89,500 Thai Baht (converted value INR 1,66,300). The M-Slaz is a potential product for the Indian market but for keeping the cost low, Yamaha would have to plan the same as a locally built bike to reduce the price to a better value of around INR 1.10-1.20 lakh. That may lead to a few changes in the bike including the new console, USD forks and newly adapted switchgear.

When yamaha m slaz will launch in INDIA ??????
29 December 2022 06:00Yamaha has officially provided no hint for the launch of M-Slaz in the Indian market. It is expected to arrive in the year 2016 itself as more refined and street fighter 150 cc machines would make a strong market for the company. Yamaha may skip the features like USD forks and LED front light for saving on the initial cost and may use the bits out of M-Slaz for a version 3.0 of R15. It is powered by a a 150 cc engine producing 16.09 BHP and 14.3 NM of torque.
