Latest Updates
After the slightly disappointingly soft FZS1000 Fazer, Yamaha raised in 2006 with two new R1-powered models that introduced a higher degree of sporting prowess to the brand. In keeping with the Fazer name the half-faired FZ1 Fazer was aimed at those who wanted a touch of practicality while the naked FZ1 was a flat-bar hooligan. However things didn’t quite go according to plan for Yamaha and what should have been a masterstroke quickly descended into a bit of a nightmare.

Yamaha FZ1 Fazer Review
Detailed Review by Maxabout Team
Yamaha FZ1 Fazer will not be a surprise package for Indians in terms of styling as Yamaha is already selling the 150cc version of Fazer. FZ1 Fazer resembles a lot to its existing sibling in terms of appearance. The bike has unique twin headlights placed in its front cowl. You will also notice sharp black colored rear view mirrors mounted on this cowl. The tinted visor at front gives smoky look to this bike. The semi fairing of FZ1 houses its tiny orange colored side indicators. This semi fairing gets integrated into the upraised fuel tank which adds macho character to FZ1 Fazer.
Its black colored beefy front forks give wide stance to this bike along with its fatty front tyre and twin disc plates. Its short but wide front fender gets extended along with its telescopic forks which complements the styling of its black colored alloy wheels. It’s black colored engine, muffler, rear cowl and grab rail enhance the visual beauty of this bike. It features split seats, extended rear fender and full size tail light which improves the rear designing of FZ1 Fazer. Its naked chain and extremely fatty rear radial tyre makes it simply irresistible.
The bike has a completely digital dashboard. It uses yellow color for illumination at night. One can easily notice all the essential LED indicators in this instrument console. The bike has digital tachometer, speedometer, odometer, fuel- gauge and 2-trip meter. Yamaha FZ1 Fazer is powered by a 998cc, 4-stroke engine. This 4 cylinder engine pumps out a power output of 150 bhp at 11000 rpm. The maximum torque output of this DOHC engine arrives at 8000 rpm which is of 106 Nm. Yamaha has mated this liquid cooled engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. This gearbox has one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.
This 4-cylinder engine always feels ready to hit the road. This engine can also be seen in the naked FZ1. Yamaha has perfectly spaced the gear ratios and that’s quite evident when you rev this bike. It can cross the speed mark of 100km/hr in its second gear. There is no harshness and noise in this engine. This DOHC engine has been designed to perform strongly at high rpms and it does so in style. The highly refined engine always prompts you to rev it hard and that’s the only way to get the maximum out of this 998cc engine. The power arrives at 11000 rpm which indicates towards its powerful mid and high range. The bike takes only 4 seconds to reach 0-100km/hr. If pushed hard the bike can go pass the speed of 200km/hr. It will be one of the best 1000cc bikes available in India. This engine suits the tourer nature of FZ1 Fazer as it stays stress free even after hours of driving. In city also you will need less gear shifts to keep this bike moving as it’s filled with enough amount of torque.
Thanks to its light weight, the bike manages to give respectable fuel economy. In city, you can expect this bike to return a fuel efficiency of around 15-18km/ltr while these figures get better once you hit the highways. This touring bike has been designed to hold you for hours. It is well stuffed seat promises you optimum comfort on long journeys. The rear set foot pegs help you to get sporty riding position while its tank allows your knees to fold in a relaxing manner. The engine kill switch is quite handy in city traffic. The rider gets a firm palm grip through its handlebar while the plastic buttons are also quite easy to use.
There is no storage space in this sporty bike but it has vital safety features. Its powerful twin headlights offer you clear view of roads at nights while its 4-piston calliper also confirms your safety. Yamaha FZ1 Fazer shares its suspension and braking system with its naked variants, FZ1. Yamaha has incorporated this bike with a light swing arm suspension at the back which offers great comfort in all riding situations. FZ1 Fazer has adjustable front telescopic forks with 130mm travel. Yamaha may introduce the ABS version of this bike in India. If not, then the standard braking system of this bike includes front twin disc brakes of 320mm and rear single hydraulic disc brake of 245mm.
Yamaha has used the lightweight aluminium frame in this bike which improves its performance and stability around corners. The bike has a wheelbase of 1460mm which helps it to remain grounded at high speeds. Its suspension system is also quite impressive and manages to give you comfortable rides. Its ground clearance of 135mm gives it stability while turning at slow speeds. You can easily handle this bike in city traffic as it’s relatively small in size.
