Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Review

06 Nov, 2023 12:12 PM

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

The BS6-compliant Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 was officially unveiled by the company at the Auto Expo back in February 2020. The 250cc motorcycle is currently available with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 2.02 lakhs. In comparison, its BS4 model was available at INR 1.71 lakhs. The sports faired motorcycle gets a new exhaust system and an ECU to comply with the BS6 emission norms that came in effect from April 1st, 2020.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Design & Style

The New Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 remains unchanged in terms of its design traits. It remains similar to its BS4 compliant model. This quarter-litre motorcycle by the brand is surely a head-turner when it comes to its looks. It looks sharper and feels compact. It also gets an all-LED headlamp, which the brand claims that it offers more bright light at night while consuming less battery power. The front fairing of the bike is nicely designed and it looks quite sporty in addition to being aerodynamic. The fairing, tank, and tail of the motorcycle appears proportionate and features a smooth flowing design. The gold-colored finish on the engine casing looks good.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Engine & Gearbox

The 2024 model of the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is powered by the BS6 compliant 249cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled, fuel-injected engine that churns out 26.5HP of maximum power at 9300 rpm along with the 22.2Nm of peak torque at 7300 rpm. Comparing it to the BS4 counterpart the power figure for the bike remains intact but there is a drop of 0.4Nm in the peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. To comply with the BS6 emission norms that came into effect from April 1, Suzuki has introduced this bike with a new exhaust system and an ECU.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Instrument Console

The instrument console on the 2024 Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is unchanged. It has an all-digital instrument cluster. The speedo indicator on the motorcycle gets nice and clear fonts. It has a gear position indicator which is quite a helpful add-on. The other readouts include a speedometer, an odometer, a trip metre, a tachometer, a fuel gauge, and a digital clock among other basic ones. It has clip-on handlebars for the sporty look.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Dimensions, Mileage & Top Speed

The 2024 model of the Suzuki Gixxer SF250 measures 2010mm in length, 740mm in width, 1035mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1345mm and with a seat height of 800mm. It has a kerb weight of 161kg. The fuel tank capacity of the bike stands at 12 litres. It has a ground clearance of 165mm. In terms of mileage, it stands at 35-40 kmpl (approximate). The top speed of the motorcycle is around 150 kmph, which is quite good in comparison to its rivals.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Brakes & Suspension

The suspension duties on the New Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 are handled by front telescopic forks and a swing arm monoshock at its rear. The braking performance of the bike depends on the disc brakes at either end. Like its BS4 models, the 2022 model of the motorcycle is equipped with a dual-channel ABS as standard and it is not switchable. The braking mechanism of the bike is praisable as it goes from 0-100 kmph in just 9.6 seconds and in a very controlled manner. The rear monoshock supports the chassis perfectly well even when ridden at the speeds of 120+ kmph.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 Colours & Graphics

The 2024 Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 is available in two colour options: Metallic Triton Blue and Metallic Matte Black. Talking about the graphics, it is inspired by European design trends. The BS6 version of the quarter-litre motorcycle remains more or less unchanged in terms of the graphics.

Verdict and Competitors of Suzuki Gixxer SF 250

The 2024 Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 motorcycle gets brilliant handling and retains its style with the engine upgrade. The bike is comfortable and quite stable while the tyres on the bike offer a good road grip. With good performance and equally good ergonomics, this bike is a considerable option for city commutes as well as the long rides. Coming to the competitors, the Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 rivals the KTM RC 200, Yamaha R15M, and the Bajaj Pulsar F250.

Review after riding 33,000Kms

Am from Thrissur, Kerala... I bought my gixxer SF in 2016 from classic omega dealership... It was looking amazing in a glass sparkle black colour... I never rode a Suzuki in my whole life this was the first I only had ridden few motorcycles Yamaha fz16, pulsar 220f for a long period and both the fz and 220 performed really well.. I asked Suzuki before booking the gixxer SF for a test ride but, they always says the same reason we don't have any test bikes.. Then how will customers able to know how it feels to ride.. My home was just 20kms away from the dealership and I noticed after riding my new gixxer SF for few kilometres that the gear shifts are very hard compared to fz and sometimes it hard to shift from 2nd to 1st gear in stop and go traffic.. I didn't bother it much because it was new... And after that, I took it for a 320kms after 1st service hill station ride and noticed that the engine was not pulling up hill and I was not able to overtake the car in Infront of me whenever I was getting a chance to overtake.. Later I shared my problems with service guys and they said it must be the problem with carburettor and they cleaned the carburettor and fuel tank even then there was only a slight difference in performance.. Whenever I try to push it hard (after break-in period) the motorcycle was showing misfiring when I try to touch the 3 digit no. in the speedometer I was totally broke by my bike’s performance it was not the bike which I wanted.. Never in my life fz16 or 200 given me such kind problems.. I always check the oil level of the motorcycle before I go for the ride whether it's fz or pulsar 220 I check it and both of them never needed top up until next oil change.. But, Gixxer after riding for 500kms after the 3rd service I noticed the oil level going down slowly after every ride.. Then I saw the oil leak from the magnetic coil area and ran to the service centre and asked them to check because the bike was under warranty a

I bought it in March of last year. Since I bought it I'm enjoying the bike mileage I'm getting above 50kmpl in city as well as on highway. Overall its best in class. But I'm suffering by an issue since I bought it. I found gear shifting is too much hard since I bought it. Several times I complained about that to local Suzuki service station but no use problem is still there.if Suzuki will look after this issue I'm very much thankful.

Best Features: Power, mileage, styling.

Pros: Performance,riding quality,mileage,looks

Cons: Gear shifting very hard, built quality
