General information and overview

The Kawasaki W800 Final Edition is a modern classic motorcycle that pays homage to the British bikes of the past while incorporating modern reliability and technology. Powered by a 773cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine, it produces 50.2 bhp at 6500 rpm and 6.41 kgm of torque at 4800 rpm, making it potent yet manageable. The bike features a 5-speed transmission and a slip and assist clutch, which enhances the riding experience by allowing smoother downshifts. The double-cradle frame, combined with 41mm front forks and twin shocks at the rear, provides excellent stability and comfort. The braking system includes 320mm and 270mm discs at the front and rear, respectively, though some might find the braking performance a bit average. The retro design elements, such as the round LED headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and twin-pod instrument cluster, make this bike a visual treat. With a seat height of 770 mm and a kerb weight of 224 kg, it offers a comfortable riding position suitable for both solo and pillion riding. Overall, the W800 Final Edition is a unique offering that combines the best of both worlds classic style and modern reliability.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Kawasaki W800 Final Edition is a motorcycle that seamlessly blends modern reliability with the charm of a classic British bike. My experience with this bike has been nothing short of enchanting. The 773cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine delivers a torrent of torque, making it a joy to ride in various conditions, from city streets to highway cruising. The double-cradle frame and 41mm front forks provide rock-solid stability, even at high speeds, and the slip and assist clutch makes downshifting a breeze. While the braking performance could be improved, especially the front brake, it is adequate for the bikes intended use. The retro aesthetic, complete with a round LED headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and twin-pod instrument cluster, is a treat for those who appreciate classic design. However, the lack of a fuel gauge and some minor issues like surface rust on chrome components are minor drawbacks. Overall, the W800 Final Edition is perfect for those seeking a modern classic that offers both style and substance.

Kawasaki is offering the W800 Final Edition with a 12-month warranty and optional Kawasaki Protection Plus plans, providing buyers with peace of mind. This is a good move to ensure customer satisfaction and loyalty. I believe this will help in maintaining the bikes resale value as well.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Kawasaki W800 Final Edition comes with a price tag of around Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). When you factor in the on-road costs, including registration, insurance, and other local taxes, the price can escalate to approximately Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh, depending on the state and local regulations. Given the unique blend of retro styling, reliable Japanese engineering, and the performance it offers, the price seems justified. However, it is on the higher side, making it a niche product for enthusiasts who are willing to pay a premium for a motorcycle that stands out from the crowd.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The mileage of the Kawasaki W800 Final Edition is surprisingly good considering its displacement and weight. In city riding, you can expect to get around 180-200 km from the 15-liter fuel tank, which translates to an average fuel efficiency of about 12-13 kml. On the highways, the efficiency can improve slightly, but overall, its a respectable figure for a bike of its class. The air-cooled engine and the well-tuned fuel injection system contribute to this decent fuel economy, making it a viable option for regular use, albeit with a slightly higher fuel cost due to its larger engine. Vehicle Overview
Kawasaki W800 Final Edition is the next expected retro modern bike for India. It is one of the most efficient motorcycles of its class and this would be the last production version for the W800. It is Euro 3 compliant and won't be on sale after March 2017. Kawasaki has displayed the standard version of W800 at an Indian dealership while it is also expected that few units of the final edition would be brought to India in the coming days. It comes with a 773 cc, Vertical Twin engine producing 47.3 BHP at 6500 rpm and 60 Nm at 2500 rpm. It uses a 5-speed gearbox and rivals Triumph Bonneville range in the country. If brought via CBU route, it could cost around INR 6.5-7.5 lakh. Kawasaki can even consider it to be a CKD, pricing it around the range of Harley Davidson Street 750 at INR 5 lakh.
