Kawasaki W175 Special Edition
General information and overview
The Kawasaki W175 Special Edition is a retro-style motorcycle that stands out with its nostalgic design and modern engineering. Powered by a 177cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, it produces 12.8 bhp at 7,500 rpm and 13.2 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed transmission, which offers smooth and precise gear shifts. The bike features a double-cradle chassis, telescopic front forks, and twin rear springs for suspension. Braking is handled by a 270mm petal-type rotor at the front and a 110mm drum brake at the back, with a single-channel ABS for safety. The bike weighs 135 kg and has a seat height of 790 mm, making it very approachable and easy to handle. The Special Edition comes in the bold Candy Persimmon Red color, adding a touch of flair to its already elegant design. Overall, the W175 is a great choice for those looking for a laidback, enjoyable riding experience with a classic twist.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Kawasaki W175 Special Edition is a charming retro-style motorcycle that brings a unique blend of nostalgia and modern engineering to the Indian market. My experience with this bike has been mixed, but it is clear that it is designed for a specific type of rider. The W175 excels in laidback, calm riding scenarios, making it perfect for cruising through city streets or gliding along little B roads. The gearing is smooth and precise, and the lack of vibrations from the engine is a notable plus. However, the bikes performance drops off significantly beyond 80 kmh, and the brakes, while adequate, could use some improvement. The build quality is solid, and the retro design is certainly appealing, especially in the Candy Persimmon Red color scheme. While it may not be the best choice for those seeking high-performance or advanced features, it offers a delightful, old-school riding experience that is hard to find in todays market.
Recent news and announcements
The 2025 Kawasaki W175 has been launched in India with updated color options, including Metallic Graphite Grey and Metallic Ocean Blue for the Special Edition. The bike retains its 177cc single-cylinder air-cooled FI engine, producing 13 PS of power and 13.3 Nm of torque. I think these new colors will appeal to those looking for a retro-style bike with modern touches.
India Kawasaki Motors has unveiled the MY24 Kawasaki W175 with exciting updates, including new color options and alloy wheels with tubeless tires. The Special Edition features a distinctive “W” 3D emblem on the fuel tank, highlighting the heritage of the W series. I believe these updates will make the W175 more attractive to buyers in the Indian market.
The 2024 Kawasaki W175 is set to launch at India Bike Week 2023, featuring cosmetic updates such as alloy wheels with sporty pinstripes and new color schemes. This update aims to make the bike more affordable and appealing, especially with its revised pricing starting at Rs. 1.29 lakh. I think this move will help Kawasaki tap into the smaller-capacity retro motorcycle segment more effectively.
Kawasaki has commenced deliveries of the W175 in India, targeting a niche customer base looking for smaller-capacity classic motorcycles. The bike is locally manufactured and adheres to Indian standards and OBD norms. I believe the W175s lightweight design and agile handling will make it a favorite for daily commuting.
The Kawasaki W175 Special Edition has been updated with features like a semi-digital retro-style speedometer and bright multi-reflector headlamp, enhancing its classic look. The bikes semi-double cradle frame and dual shock rear suspension ensure a comfortable and fun riding experience. I think these updates will appeal to enthusiasts of retro motorcycles who value both style and performance.
Pricing details and changes
The Kawasaki W175 Special Edition comes with a price tag that may raise some eyebrows. The ex-showroom price for this variant is around Rs. 1,24,000, but once you factor in the on-road costs, it can nudge close to Rs. 1.8 lakh, depending on the state and additional taxes. For instance, in Telangana, there is an additional tax for owning more than one vehicle, which can add to the overall cost. While the price is steep for a 177cc motorcycle, it reflects the brands reputation for quality and the unique retro experience it offers. However, potential buyers need to weigh this against other options in the same price range, such as the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and TVS Ronin, which may offer more value for money.
Kawasaki W175 Special Edition on road price is Rs 1.71 lakh in Delhi, Rs 1.77 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 1.74 lakh in Kolkata and Rs 1.76 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest Kawasaki dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the Kawasaki W175 Special Edition is a crucial factor for many Indian buyers, and it performs reasonably well in this regard. With its 177cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, the bike is tuned for efficiency rather than raw power. While exact mileage figures are not provided, the engines mid-range focus and the thoughtful final gearing suggest that it should deliver a respectable fuel economy. In practical terms, you can expect around 35-40 kml in city riding conditions and slightly better on the highways, though this can vary based on riding style and conditions. The 12-liter fuel tank capacity is also a plus, allowing for decent range before needing a refill. In India, Kawasaki has announced the launch of the all-new Kawasaki W175 MY 23. The W175 is available in two variants: standard and special edition. The standard variant has an Ebony colour that gives it a black dynamic appearance. The Special Edition has a Candy Persimmon Red base colour. The brand 3D emblem W on the fuel tank reminds you of the Kawasaki W1.
Kawasaki W175 is inspired by its bigger brother, the W800. The Kawasaki W series has been around for more than 50 years. Kawasaki W175 has a round headlamp, rearview mirrors, wire-spoke wheels, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, fork gaiters, and a quilted single-piece saddle. Special Edition Red is a red and black dual-tone colour option. The engine, headlight casing, front suspension, swingarm, and exhaust pipe are all black.
The instrumentation is simple, consisting of a speedometer, trip metre, odometer, and turn signals. Signature W branding can be found on the bottom section of the instrument console and the fuel tank.
A 177cc air-cooled engine powers the Kawasaki W175 with a 5-speed transmission system. It generates 13 HP at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. It comes with a double cradle frame integrated with telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers. A 270mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a rear drum handle the braking duties. Both ends have 17-inch wheels with 80/100 front and 100/90 rear tyres.
A compact 177cc Single Cylinder FI engine, Semi-digital RetroStyle Speedometer, Semi double-cradle Frame, and Bright Multi-Reflector Headlamp, 270mm Front Disc with Single Channel ABS, Dual shock Rear Suspension, and Sharp Retro-Classic Style are key features.
The price of the Kawasaki W175 Special Edition Candy Persimmon Red is Rs 1,49,000. Kawasaki W175 will compete with Honda CB350, Jawa, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Yamaha FZ-X, and Yezdi Roadster.
