USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Kawasaki W175 is a unique offering in the Indian motorcycle market, catering to those who appreciate a retro aesthetic and a laidback riding experience. While it may not be the fastest or most feature-rich bike, it excels in its simplicity and refinement. The engine, though not powerful, is smooth and tractable, making it ideal for cruising at moderate speeds. The handling is commendable, especially in city traffic and on twisty roads, thanks to its lightweight and well-balanced chassis. However, the lofty price tag and lack of modern features might deter some buyers. For those who value the joy of riding over raw performance, the W175 is a delightful choice, but its crucial to weigh its pros and cons carefully.
Price
The Kawasaki W175 is priced competitively in the Indian market, though it leans towards the higher end of its segment. The ex-showroom prices start at Rs. 1,22,000 for the W175 Ebony variant, with the W175 Candy Persimmon Red, W175 Metallic, and W175 Alloy Wheel variants priced at Rs. 1,24,000, Rs. 1,31,000, and Rs. 1,35,000 respectively. On-road prices can vary depending on the state and local taxes, but generally, you can expect to pay around Rs. 1,80,000 to Rs. 1,90,000 after including all the additional costs. This pricing makes the W175 a premium option in its class, and potential buyers need to consider whether the unique features and riding experience justify the cost.
2024 Kawasaki W175 on road price is Rs 1.40 lakh in Delhi, Rs 1.45 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 1.42 lakh in Kolkata and Rs 1.44 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest Kawasaki dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.
Latest Updates
Friday, 08 December 2023 10:52 AM The 2024 Kawasaki W175 Street has been launched in India, priced at Rs 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom). This model features 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, new colour schemes including Candy Emerald Green and Metallic Moondust Grey, and a lowered seat height and ground clearance for improved comfort. The engine remains the same 177cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled unit. I think these updates will make the W175 more appealing to riders looking for a retro-style bike with modern conveniences.
Tuesday, 05 December 2023 09:00 AM Kawasaki has updated the W175 for 2024, introducing two new colours - Metallic Graphite Grey and Metallic Ocean Blue - in addition to the existing Ebony and Persimmon Red. The bike has also received a price cut of around Rs 25,000, with the Ebony colour now priced at Rs 1.22 lakh and the Red at Rs 1.24 lakh. The engine and features remain unchanged. This price drop could make the W175 more competitive in the market.
Tuesday, 05 December 2023 08:42 AM The Kawasaki W175 is set to target a niche customer base in India, particularly those looking for a smaller capacity classic motorcycle. Unlike larger 300-400cc retro motorcycles, the W175 offers a 177cc, air-cooled engine and a lighter weight of 135 kg, making it more agile in city traffic. However, the limited number of Kawasaki dealerships might hinder its sales potential. I believe this bike could be a great option for daily commuting.
Thursday, 30 November 2023 11:33 PM Kawasaki has announced that the 2024 W175 will be launched at the 10th anniversary of India Bike Week in Goa. The update is expected to include cosmetic changes such as new colours and possibly alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, replacing the old wire-spoke units. This could enhance both the aesthetics and handling of the bike. I think these changes will make the W175 more attractive to potential buyers.
Monday, 20 November 2023 10:11 PM The Kawasaki W175 continues to be locally manufactured in India and features a simple yet elegant design, including a round headlamp, teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and single-piece seat. The bike is powered by a 177cc, air-cooled engine producing 13 PS of power and 13.2 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed transmission. Its lightweight and ergonomic design make it comfortable for daily rides. I believe the W175s design is a perfect blend of retro and modern elements.
Wednesday, 15 November 2023 06:16 PM Prior to the 2024 updates, the Kawasaki W175 was priced between Rs 1.47 lakh and Rs 1.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The new pricing strategy, which includes a price cut of up to Rs 25,000, aims to make the bike more competitive in the Indian market. This move could attract more customers to the retro-style motorcycle segment. I think this price adjustment is a smart move by Kawasaki.
Wednesday, 25 October 2023 04:48 PM The suspension system of the Kawasaki W175 consists of 30mm telescopic front forks and swingarm dual shock absorbers with adjustable spring preload at the rear. The braking setup includes a 220mm disc at the front and a 110mm drum brake at the rear. These features contribute to a smooth and responsive ride, making the W175 suitable for both city commutes and leisurely rides. I believe the suspension and braking system are well-tuned for its class.
Wednesday, 20 September 2023 10:20 AM The Kawasaki W175 Street model features a revised seat height and ground clearance, making it more comfortable and adaptable for a wider range of riders. The new seat design enhances rider comfort during long journeys, while the increased ground clearance allows for better maneuverability on various terrains. This attention to ergonomics is a significant improvement.
Tuesday, 15 August 2023 07:59 PM Kawasaki has emphasized blending nostalgia with innovation in the 2024 W175, retaining its retro charm while incorporating modern technology. The bike now sports alloy wheels and tubeless tyres, which enhance both aesthetics and functionality. This blend of old and new is likely to captivate motorcycle enthusiasts. I think this approach will help the W175 stand out in the market.
Monday, 10 July 2023 07:08 AM The Kawasaki W175 is known for its handling and agility, thanks to its lightweight design and ergonomic features. The bike weighs 135 kg, making it much lighter than larger capacity retro-themed motorcycles. This makes it ideal for daily commuting and navigating through city traffic. I believe its handling is one of its strongest points.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 06:08 AM The mileage of the Kawasaki W175 is a critical factor for many Indian buyers, and it performs reasonably well in this regard. With its 177cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the bike is tuned for efficiency rather than outright performance. While exact mileage figures are not widely reported, the bikes lightweight construction and moderate power output suggest it should deliver around 40-50 kmpl in city riding conditions and potentially up to 55-60 kmpl on the highway. This is respectable for a bike in its class, especially considering its retro design and focus on riding comfort. However, real-world mileage can vary based on riding style, road conditions, and maintenance of the vehicle. Kawasaki W175 Review

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

For the first time, the Kawasaki W175 was spotted on Indian roads in November 2020. W175 has now been launched in India for about two years. The W175 is Kawasaki's smallest capacity retro-themed bike, available in Asian markets such as Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. It's also sold in Latin American countries like Mexico, Uruguay, and Bolivia.

In Indonesia, three models are available: the standard W175, the W175 Cafe, and the W175 TR. As of now, only the standard variant is available in the Indian market. W175 is produced locally, which has helped to keep costs low.

Kawasaki W175 Design and Style

2023 Kawasaki W175 takes design cues from its bigger brother, the W800. The Kawasaki W series has a long history that dates back more than 50 years. W1, the first bike in this series, was introduced in 1966. Continuing on that theme, the Kawasaki W175 has an appealing old-school profile with features like a round headlamp and rearview mirrors, fork gaiters, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, quilted single-piece saddle, and wire-spoke wheels. Ebony and Special Edition Red will be the two colour options. While the former is essentially an all-black theme, the latter is a red and black dual-tone colour option. The majority of the components in both have been blacked out, including the front suspension, headlight casing, engine, swingarm, and exhaust pipe.

The instrumentation is straightforward, with a speedometer, odometer, trip metre, and turn signals. W175 represents pure riding pleasure with no distractions such as Bluetooth connectivity and app-based functions. The bottom section of the instrument console and the fuel tank features signature W branding.

Kawasaki W175 Engine and Gearbox

A 177cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine comes mated with a 5-speed transmission system on the new Kawasaki W175. This BS6-compliant engine produces a maximum power of 13 HP at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.2 Nm at 6,000 rpm. While the numbers may not appear impressive, the W175 can still deliver optimal performance due to its light weight of only 135 kg.

A 177cc single-cylinder with a displacement advantage over the 150cc class. Ample torque makes it simple to operate, providing a stress-free experience that allows riders to concentrate on the ride. A 5-speed transmission and an engine balancer that dampens unwanted vibrations add to the fun and comfort of the ride.

Kawasaki W175 Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

2023 Kawasaki W175 hardware is simple, with a double cradle frame integrated with telescopic front forks and dual rear shock absorbers. The riding position is very comfortable because the bike supports the rider's natural position. The bike has a 270mm front disc brake with single-channel ABS and a rear drum brake. Both ends have 17-inch wheels that are wrapped in 80/100 front and 100/90 rear tyres.

The front and rear suspension work in tandem with the rigid frame to provide good shock absorption for a comfortable ride while still allowing for fun riding. Fork boots protect the fork inner tubes and add to the retro look of the W175, as does the dual shock rear suspension.

Key Features of Kawasaki W175

A semi-double-cradle frame that is highly rigid and contributes to the W175's unhurried handling character. The semi-double cradle configuration is a product of function and form. It also complements retro styling and its simple design allowing for customization. The W175 follows in the footsteps of Kawasaki's other authentic retro models, with a traditional, simple design. And, with the materials and fit-and-finish of a machine in a higher class, the W175 stands out from the crowd.

The 60W headlamp is as bright as those found in higher-end models, outshining competitors (which feature 35W headlamps).

The bright headlamp provides excellent visibility at night. The W175 has 17" spoke wheels front and rear, as befits a retro model. The tyre tread pattern also adds to the bike's retro appearance. A 30 mm telescopic fork in front is supported by dual shocks in the rear. The peashooter-style muffler on the W175 adds to the retro vibe. The curved header pipe of the exhaust complements the engine design. The clear, crisp exhaust note of the muffler adds to the rider's enjoyment.

Simple instrumentation includes an odometer, trip metre, and indicator lamps, as well as an asymmetric semi-digital-retro style speedometer. A "W" emblem on the speedometer face, like on the other models in the W family, adds a classy touch. A ø270 mm front disc brake with a single channel ABS provides dependable stopping power. A drum brake slows the rear while also adding to the retro appearance.

Kawasaki W175 Colour Options

Kawasaki offers the new W175 in two colour options: Ebony costs Rs.1,22,000 and Candy Persimmon Red costs Rs.1,24,000.

Kawasaki W175 Competitors

There are no direct competitors to Kawasaki W175 but it could pose a challenge to Honda CB350, Jawa Classic, Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Yamaha FZ-X, and Yezdi Roadster in the Indian market.

Conclusion

India's most affordable Kawasaki motorcycle the new W175 has arrived at a price of Rs. 1.22 lakh ex-showroom. Bookings for the Japanese brand's latest motorcycle are now being accepted at Kawasaki dealers across the country. The Deluxe trim of the motorcycle has a red paint scheme and costs Rs. 2,000 more. Deliveries will begin in December 2022, and test rides are now available at Kawasaki dealerships throughout India.
