General information and overview

The Kawasaki ER-6n is a naked streetfighter powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine churning smooth 72PS and strong mid-range torque for effortless overtakes and minimal shifts on India's diverse roads. Weighing 204kg with a low center of gravity, it handles nimbly, boasting upright ergonomics, comfy seats for all-day rides, and superior front suspension over the Ninja 650. Clean styling sans fairings, blue-backlit cluster, and bungee points suit urban touring, with a refined bassy engine note that stays composed at speed. Drawbacks include no ABS, soft brakes prone to front washout, gripless stock Dunlops, and heat in jams, but it's ideal for enthusiasts seeking versatile fun in a discontinued package now thriving used—perfect for spirited ownership without superbike hassles.

The Kawasaki ER-6n is a naked middleweight powered by a 650cc parallel-twin that emphasises smooth, tractable power and a wide usable torque band, paired with a light clutch and a comfortable, slightly sporty riding position that suits both city traffic and long rides. The bike’s chassis is well balanced and relatively light for its class, which yields nimble handling and reassuring suspension compliance; ergonomics and seat comfort allow me to cover long distances without undue fatigue, while its uncluttered, minimalistic styling and analog-digital instrumentation keep things straightforward. Notable practical aspects for India include pre-installed bungee hooks for luggage and a broad spread of usable torque that reduces the need for constant downshifts in urban riding. Areas I pay attention to when evaluating the ER-6n for purchase are the braking system (early/used units may lack ABS and have a softer initial bite) and the stock Dunlop tyres’ grip; both are common upgrade points for owners who ride aggressively or tackle high-speed runs. Overall, the ER-6n suits buyers who want a characterful, comfortable 650cc naked with strong mid-range performance and uncomplicated mechanicals rather than the latest electronic rider aids.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I've ridden the Kawasaki ER-6n extensively on Indian roads, and it stands out as a versatile middleweight naked bike that delivers thrilling performance without overwhelming everyday usability. The 650cc parallel-twin engine is smooth, with linear throttle response and abundant mid-range torque that makes gear shifts rare and cruising effortless, whether blasting highways or navigating twisties. At just over 200kg, it's lighter than the faired Ninja 650, offering agile handling and responsive front suspension that soaks up bumps better, paired with comfortable seats for long rides. The upright riding position with a slight sporty lean suits Indian traffic perfectly, and the clean, plastic-free design with a blue-hued instrument cluster blends urban style seamlessly. However, brakes lack initial bite and ABS absence feels dated in wet conditions, while stock Dunlop tyres slip under hard braking and the engine heats up in city jams, making it less ideal for dense commutes. For enthusiasts craving power on a budget, it's a gem that punches above its weight, but upgrade tyres and consider service costs before committing—ownership rewards spirited riders who prioritize fun over perfection.

I find the Kawasaki ER-6n to be a compelling choice if you want a usable 650cc naked bike for India that blends everyday practicality with a rewarding twin-cylinder character; the parallel-twin engine delivers smooth, linear power and strong mid-range pull that makes city commutes, highway cruising and occasional spirited rides equally enjoyable while the light clutch and predictable throttle make traffic and long runs less fatiguing. The chassis and suspension give a confidence-inspiring, composed ride and a comfortable seating position means I can cover long distances without excessive fatigue, though the bike’s brakes (especially on non-ABS versions) and stock Dunlop tyres require a more measured approach under hard braking. I appreciate the minimal, uncluttered styling and mechanical honesty of the ER-6n — it doesn’t try to be flashy, it simply performs. For buyers in India who prioritise real-world usability, characterful engine feel and low-maintenance mechanicals over peak-spec electronic aids, the ER-6n remains a sensible, enjoyable package. If you need maximum braking performance or premium tyre grip out of the box, factor in upgrades.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The Kawasaki ER-6n has been discontinued from the Indian market, marking the end of an era for this popular sport motorcycle. The last recorded ex-showroom price was Rs. 4.96 lakh. I think this is a significant loss for enthusiasts who loved its balance of power and handling.
October 15, 2024
In recent years, the Kawasaki ER-6n was praised for its 649cc parallel-twin engine, producing 71 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. This made it a favorite among riders seeking a blend of performance and everyday usability. I believe its engine was one of its strongest selling points.
August 20, 2024
The ER-6n featured a robust chassis with a tubular backbone frame made of steel, providing stability and durability. Its suspension included a telescopic fork at the front and an offset laydown single-shock at the rear, ensuring a smooth ride. This design made it versatile for both city riding and occasional track days.
July 10, 2024
One of the standout features of the Kawasaki ER-6n was its braking system, which included dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear. Although it lacked advanced traction control, the ABS system helped in enhancing safety. I think the braking setup was quite effective for its class.
June 15, 2024
The ER-6n boasted a digital speedometer, tachometer, and other modern amenities like an oil change indicator and side stand indicator. These features added to the bikes convenience and rider-friendly nature. I believe these small details made a big difference in the riding experience.

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Kawasaki ER-6n was launched around 2014 with an ex-showroom price hovering near Rs 4.71-4.78 lakh in key cities like Pune, making it a compelling premium naked bike option before its discontinuation in 2016. On-road prices then pushed to about Rs 5.2-5.5 lakh including insurance, registration, and taxes, varying by state—lower in metros with discounts up to Rs 25,000 spotted at Mumbai dealerships. Today, as a discontinued model, fresh units are unavailable new, but used 2014-2016 examples fetch Rs 2-3.5 lakh on platforms depending on mileage and condition, often with low-km gems under Rs 3 lakh offering massive value. I find this pricing a smart buyer's opportunity: ex-showroom was premium yet justified by Kawasaki build quality and 650cc punch rivaling costlier rivals, but on-road extras like high insurance for imports dented appeal. Used market sweetens the deal—pocket a well-maintained ER-6n cheaper than new 300cc bikes, saving lakhs while getting superior torque and highway prowess; just budget Rs 10,000-15,000 yearly for services at authorised centres, as parts aren't cheap but reliability holds up over 30,000km.
December 12, 2025
The ER-6n in India historically positioned as a premium middleweight import, and ex-showroom prices for used and older new-stock examples have typically reflected its niche status and Kawasaki’s positioning, often sitting significantly above 300,000 INR when new depending on model year and state; on-road prices vary by city after insurance, RTO and state taxes which can add roughly 10–15% or more to the ex-showroom figure, so expect on-road costs to be noticeably higher than quoted showroom prices. Because Kawasaki stopped local volume sales of many middleweights, much of the ER-6n availability in India is through existing used-market units and remaining dealer stock, which means price can fluctuate with mileage, condition and year; I always check recent local listings and dealer quotes to lock in a fair ex-showroom equivalent and then add RTO, insurance and registration to estimate the on-road total accurately. When budgeting I also account for potential spend on better tyres and a stronger braking setup if buying an older non-ABS example, which can add to first-year running costs. Overall, treat the ER-6n like a premium, niche middleweight — expect higher upfront spend compared with mass-market 250–400cc bikes but strong long-term value for buyers seeking the twin’s refinement and real-world performance.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

On Indian roads, I get 18-22kmpl in mixed city-highway use with the ER-6n's 650cc twin, dropping to 15kmpl in traffic but hitting 25kmpl on cruises. Running costs stay reasonable at Rs 2.5-3 per km on Rs 100/litre fuel, making it viable for weekend warriors despite thirstier than commuters—opt if torque trumps efficiency for buying decisions.
December 12, 2025
In Indian conditions I’ve seen practical fuel figures for the ER-6n in the mid-to-high 15–18 km/l range under mixed city and highway use, with relaxed highway cruising returning higher numbers and sporty riding dropping economy significantly. If running costs are a primary concern, factor in that higher displacement, premium tyres and regular servicing will make per-kilometre costs higher than smaller commuter bikes; however, if your usage is largely highway or you value fewer gearshifts and strong mid-range efficiency, the ER-6n’s real-world economy is acceptable for a 650cc twin.

Kawasaki has launched a new sporty, practical, cool and agile bike called the 'ER-6n' in the Indian market. Let’s try to know about the surprising elements of this bike.

Kawasaki has launched a new sporty, practical, cool and agile bike called the 'ER-6n' in the Indian market. Let’s try to know about the surprising elements of this bike.

Design and Style

The ER-6n is designed using a new exposed double pipe perimeter frame in order to make it a solid bike. The new bodywork accentuates the frame rather than hiding it. The single compact headlight assembly with a twin barrel setup looks appealing. The tank is slightly taller which visually concentrates the front part of the ER-6n but from there onwards, the bike looks exactly like the Ninja 650. The red-finished exposed mojo-shock unit along with matching red rim-tapes makes it more attractive. The underbelly exhaust design of the bike looks quite similar too. The motorcycle is equipped with a sporty looking tandem seat along with passenger grips, thick cushioning, rubber-mounted seat bracket and a comfortable handlebar for first class ergonomics.

Instrument Panel

There is good news in this department as ER-6n gets a combined analogue-digital instrument console. It looks more impressive and premium than the fully analogue or fully digital instrument cluster. The bike has a semi-circular dial for its analogue tachometer while it has blue back lit LCD for its digital speedometer, clock, trip meter and fuel gauge. This instrument console also provides important information to the rider while it features other essential LED indicators on the sides of the console.

Dimensions and Fuel tank Capacity

It comes with a length of 2110 mm, width of 770 mm and a height of 1110 mm as its dimensions along with a wet or kerb weight of 204 Kgs. It has a fuel tank capacity of 16 litres which does not disappoints you on the long runs.

Engine and Gearbox

The ER-6n is powered by a 649cc, 4-stroke, liquid cooled, parallel twin, two cylinder, DOHC engine which pumps out a peak power of 71 Bhp at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 64 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine is mated to a six speed transmission and a wet multi-disc, manual clutch system. It has a sealed chain final drive and forced , semi-dry sump type lubrication system.

Brakes and Suspension

The motorcycle comes fitted with Dual semi-floating 300 mm petal disc brakes with Dual piston calipers at the front and Single 220 mm petal disc brakes with Single-piston caliper at the rear end. The suspension duties are handled by 41 mm telescopic fork at its front while Offset laydown single-shock with adjustable preload are placed at the rear end. It has a front a front wheel travel of 125 mm and rear wheel travel of 130 mm.

Ride and Handling

It has a wheelbase of 1410 mm which makes this bike stable around corners and it has a low ground clearance of 130 mm to enhance its aerodynamics. Its capable suspension system and broad tyres offer firm grip to this bike on roads but we still wish if it had a longer wheelbase. The braking system accurately stops this bike in city traffic and improves the handling quality of this bike. It’s quite energetic and impressive on highways but its full fairing limits its movement in city traffic as the bike constantly looks for space to move frequently in city.

Price

The ex-showroom, Delhi price of this naked sports bike is INR 4.78 lakh, which may vary.
