Yamaha SZ-RR V2

About
The Yamaha SZ-RR V2.0 is a 150cc commuter bike that boasts a 153cc SOHC 2-valve engine, producing peak power that is adequate for city riding. The bike is known for its vibration-free engine, even at higher RPMs, and its excellent reliability, as evidenced by long-term ownership reviews. It features a 14-liter fuel tank, 165mm ground clearance, and an analogue cockpit. The SZ-RR V2.0 is praised for its comfort, especially for pillions, and its lightweight design makes it easy to maneuver in urban settings. However, it lacks advanced features like mono suspension and ABS, and the stock tyres are often criticized. Despite these limitations, the bikes overall package makes it a reliable and economical choice for daily commuting and occasional long rides.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Yamaha SZ-RR V2.0 is a solid choice for those seeking a reliable and economical commuter bike. While it may not excel in terms of raw power, it compensates with its excellent low-end and mid-range torque, making it a joy to ride in city conditions. The bikes lightweight design and comfortable seating ensure it is suitable for both daily commutes and occasional long rides. However, it lacks the punch needed for high-speed cruising and suffers from average braking performance. The overall build quality is commendable, and the maintenance costs are relatively low. For a young college student or a graduate trainee looking for a no-nonsense, value-for-money motorcycle, the SZ-RR V2.0 is a good option.
Price
The Yamaha SZ-RR V2.0 was priced competitively in the Indian market before its discontinuation. At the time of its launch, the ex-showroom price was around Rs 65,300. On-road prices varied depending on the state and local taxes but generally ranged from Rs 75,000 to Rs 85,000. Although the bike is no longer in production, its pricing strategy was aimed at making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. If you are considering purchasing a used model, prices will depend on the bikes condition, mileage, and location, but you can expect to pay significantly less than the original on-road price.

Tuesday, 27 August 2024 06:41 AM The Yamaha SZ-RR V2 has been discontinued in the Indian market, with the last known price being Rs. 67,803 (ex-showroom Delhi) before it was taken out of production. This move has left many loyal customers looking for alternative options. I think this decision might have been due to the increasing competition in the 150cc segment.
Tuesday, 27 August 2024 02:14 AM The Yamaha SZ-RR V2 was known for its Blue Core technology, which enhanced fuel efficiency and provided a smoother riding experience. The engine produced 11.9 BHP at 7500 RPM and 12.8 Nm of torque at 6000 RPM. This technology was a significant selling point for the bike. I believe this tech made the bike stand out in its class.
Tuesday, 27 August 2024 08:17 AM In terms of design, the Yamaha SZ-RR V2 featured minimal cosmetic upgrades but still managed to look fresh with new shrouds on the fuel tank and new paint schemes. The bike also came with new tubeless tyres and an updated instrument cluster. The muscular design was a hit among commuters. I think the design updates were just enough to keep the bike relevant.

I believe the weight and fuel capacity were well-balanced for its purpose.

Tuesday, 27 August 2024 08:29 AM The Yamaha SZ-RR V2 was positioned against other popular bikes like the Honda CB Unicorn, Hero Achiever, and Bajaj V15 in the Indian market. Despite the competition, it managed to carve out a niche for itself with its unique features and performance. I believe the competition pushed Yamaha to innovate more.
Tuesday, 27 August 2024 05:16 PM The bike featured a comfortable ride with good suspension feedback, making it suitable for both city and highway riding. However, some users noted that the engine could be loud and vibrate slightly at high RPMs. I think these minor issues didnt deter many from loving the bike.
Tuesday, 27 August 2024 07:26 AM The Yamaha SZ-RR V2 had some drawbacks, such as a single caliper front disc brake and a fuel meter that sometimes showed incorrect readings. Despite these, the overall comfort and reliability of the bike were highly praised by owners. I believe these issues were minor compared to the bikes overall performance.
Friday, 15 March 2024 05:03 PM Yamahas decision to discontinue the SZ-RR V2 has led to speculation about whether the company will introduce a new model to fill the gap in the 150cc segment. Fans of the bike are eagerly waiting for any new announcements from Yamaha. I think theres a good chance we might see a successor soon.
Saturday, 09 March 2024 06:52 AM The Yamaha SZ-RR V2 was known for its reliability and low maintenance costs. Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Review

21 Dec, 2021 11:42 AM

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Yamaha corporation had organized a 'Mission 10,000 km' ride to promote its FZ-S FI models. The Mission came to an end at the YMCA grounds in Chennai. At this event, the company has launched a new bike called the SZ-RR Version 2.0. It is a commuter bike for daily use which majorly suits the 24-35 age group crowd. Let's check out its offerings.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Design and Style

The Yamaha SZ-RR V2.0 features very little but noticeable cosmetic changes over the SZ-RR V1.0. Yamaha has dipped the bike in new cool color combinations that make it look sporty and stand out amongst other boring-looking commuter bikes. The bike has got a seat height of 800 mm which is quite comfortable and smooth. The Yamaha SZ-RR gets a diamond-type frame and 17-inch wheels at the front and rear that further enhances its looks.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Instrument Panel

The bike features a fully analog instrument console that comprises a tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer. The panel provides the rider an important information along with certain indicators.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Dimensions and Fuel tank capacity

The SZ-RR Version 2.0 comes with a length of 2050 mm, width of 760 mm and a height of 1100 mm as its dimensions along with a wet or kerb weight of 134 Kgs. It has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres which does not disappoints you on the long runs.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Engine and Gearbox

The motorcycle is powered by a 149cc, 4-stroke, air cooled, mono cylinder, SOHC, Blue Core technology engine which pumps out a peak power of 11.9 Bhp at 7500 rpm and a peak torque of 12.8 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five speed transmission and a wet multiple-disc clutch. It has a chain type final drive and forced, semi sump type lubrication system.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Brakes and Suspension

The motorcycle comes equipped with 245 mm hydraulic disc brakes at the front and 130 mm drum brakes at the rear end. The suspension duties are handled by Telescopic with coil spring & oil damper at its front while Swingarm with coil spring & oil damper are placed at the rear end. It has a front a front wheel travel of 135 mm and rear wheel travel of 120 mm.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Ride and Handling

It has a wheelbase of 1320 mm which makes this bike stable around corners and it has a high ground clearance of 165 mm to enhance its aerodynamics and it helps in protecting the underbody from damages. Its capable suspension system and broad tyres offer firm grip to this bike on roads but we still wish if it had a longer wheelbase. The braking system accurately stops this bike in city traffic and improves the handling quality of this bike. The bike can easily pave through city traffic and offers greater stability on roads.

Yamaha SZ-RR V2 Colours and Price

The Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0 is available in three attractive shades :Red Dash, Ivory White, and Green Arrow at a price tag of Rs. 65,300. This is the ex-showroom, Delhi price which may vary.

  • Which one should I buy - Yamaha SZ RR V2.0 or Honda Unicorn 160?

    29 December 2022 05:45

Honda Unicorn 160 is a better option considering the overall specifications of the motorcycles. This is due to its high performance and a more capable engine. The Honda Unicorn produces 14.5 BHP @ 8000 rpm as compared to 12 BHP of the Yamaha SZ RR. Also the Honda Unicorn has a better riding than its rival, making it the best out of both.

Bad buying experience with my Yamaha SZ

Divya Gupta | 2 years ago

I had a bad buying experience with my Yamaha SZ. I ordered a certain color, but did not receive it and had to be forgiven by the dealer. The riding experience on the SZ R was ok on straight roads, but even worse on hilly roads. The initial pickup was good, but after that it felt like riding an old bull cart. Once we reached top gear 5th, it felt like a panther. In India, we cannot ride for more than 15 minutes in top gear unless we are travelling on a national highway. The looks of the bike were average, but the performance was good and the silencer had a great sound.

The mileage was terrible - 50 to drop off 25 kmpl in one year. The service from Yamaha was ok, but the parts were expensive and we had to argue a lot to get the warranty of one year. The pros of the bike were the low price, sporty look, and light weight. The cons were very bad mileage, less power, and higher maintenance.

Say NO to Yamaha SZ

Charu Garg | 2 years ago

When I bought my new Yamaha SZ, I was initially happy with my purchase. Initially, the ride quality was good and I had no problems. However, after a few thousand kilometers, I started to experience some issues with the engine. It became increasingly noisy, and I had to change the carburetor at 10000 km. Even after getting the service done on time, the service center technician was unable to identify the problems. The mechanics were inexperienced and could not provide a proper diagnosis. This was not the experience I expected from a Yamaha product. I will never buy a Yamaha again.

Doesn't have a kick start and the headlight is not powerful

Gazal Singla | 2 years ago

I bought the Yamaha SZ-R in December 2011 and I was very pleased with its sporty look. I was especially impressed with the comfort of the ride and the overall riding experience is quite remarkable. The bike's performance is good and I have taken many long rides since purchasing it. I have gone from Kalyan to Ratnagiri (about 800 kms), Kalyan to Mahabaleshwar (about 700 kms), and Kalyan to Nashik-Shirdi (about 700 kms) and I have driven all of these distances without any problems. My previous bike caused me back pain, so I have found the SZ-R to be a great relief in that respect. My daily travel is about 20 kilometers and I'm getting an average mileage of 40-45 kilometers in the city and 45-50 kilometers for long-distance rides.

The only downsides of the bike is that it doesn't have a kick start and the headlight is not as powerful as I would like. The battery also got damaged after 18 months, but I replaced it with an Exide battery and it has worked well since then. After 5 years, the bike has started to give some problems, with both the front and rear suspension getting damaged and the tyres losing their shape and grip. I changed them with Ceat tyres and since then there have been no punctures. Compared to other bikes of the same period, I think my Yamaha SZ-R

An average bike

Riding is fine as far as you do not go beyond 80kmph. The bike is able to reach 115kmph without a pillion crouched down. But at that point you will feel how hard the bike struggles to maintain the speed. Untill 80 kmph the bike is able to hold speeds for long commutes. You will feel that the bike lacks a 6th gear on the highway. I haven't tested the mileage but i believe it returns about 45-50 kmpl.

The downside is that there is no kill-switch. It even lacks a pass light.

I have faced the issue of the speedometer cable getting ripped every 500 km I drove. Replacing it is a waste of time and you won't be able to keep the correct odometer reading.

Deepak Kumar | 2 years ago

After reading this review, it is clear that the Yamaha SZ is not a good buy. The user has experienced several issues with the bike in the two years that they have owned it, including having to replace the meter wire, clutch cable, and accelerator cable multiple times. The user has also reported that the mileage is very low and that the chain sprocket is giving them problems. Additionally, they have indicated that the exchange amount offered is too low. Overall, based on this review, it is not a wise decision to purchase the Yamaha SZ .
