Our take on this /// Verdict
The Yamaha Saluto RX Darknight Edition is a mixed bag, offering several compelling features but also some significant drawbacks. On the positive side, this bike boasts a sleek and attractive design, particularly in the Darknight color scheme, which sets it apart from other commuter bikes in its class. The Yamaha Blue Core engine provides a smooth and refined riding experience, and the bikes lightweight nature makes it easy to handle, especially for new riders. However, the lack of a disc brake is a notable omission, and some users have reported issues with clutch and gear problems, as well as poor service experiences. Overall, while it is a good choice for those prioritizing comfort and style, potential buyers should be aware of the potential maintenance and service challenges.
Price
The Yamaha Saluto RX Darknight Edition, although discontinued since April 2016, was priced competitively during its time. The ex-showroom price for this variant was around Rs. 53,000. When considering the on-road price, which includes additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other fees, the total would have been approximately Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 65,000, depending on the state and local taxes. Given its features and performance, it was a reasonable value for money at the time of its launch. However, since it is no longer in production, buyers would need to look at used or pre-owned options if they are still interested in this model.
Latest Updates
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 04:23 PM The Yamaha Saluto RX, including the Darknight variant, has been discontinued by Yamaha India, marking the end of its production run. This decision comes as the company focuses on other models in its lineup. I think this is a significant loss for the 110cc commuter segment, where the Saluto RX was a popular choice.
Sunday, 16 August 2020 12:13 AM In 2020, Yamaha updated the Saluto RX with its Unified Braking System (UBS), which was a notable feature in the Darknight variant as well. This system enhanced braking performance by distributing brake force between the front and rear wheels. I believe this was a crucial safety upgrade for a commuter bike.
Wednesday, 20 March 2019 08:12 PM Yamahas after-sales service for the Saluto RX, including the Darknight variant, received mixed reviews. Some owners praised the service, while others reported issues with part availability and maintenance costs. I think reliable after-sales service is crucial for any vehicles success.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 12:46 PM The Yamaha Saluto RX Darknight was priced at Rs 53,000 in its special color scheme, making it a slightly premium offering compared to the standard colors. This pricing was competitive in the 110cc segment, appealing to buyers looking for a stylish and efficient commuter bike.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 07:23 AM The Saluto RX Darknight featured a distinctive design with a bikini fairing and a curvy headlamp unit, giving it a slightly muscular look. The bike also came with elegant paint schemes, including the Darknight color, which added to its aesthetic appeal. I think the design was one of its strong points.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 06:43 AM Powered by a 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, the Saluto RX Darknight delivered 7.4 bhp and 8.5 Nm of torque, making it efficient and performance-oriented. This engine was part of Yamahas BlueCore technology, aimed at improving fuel efficiency without compromising on performance.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 07:44 AM The Saluto RX Darknight had a lightweight body, weighing just 98 kg, which contributed to its fuel efficiency and ease of handling. The bike claimed an ARAI mileage of 82 kmpl, making it a favorite among commuters. I believe the lightweight design was a key factor in its popularity.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 05:17 PM The instrument cluster of the Saluto RX Darknight was minimalistic, featuring an analogue speedometer, fuel gauge, and other basic functionalities. While it lacked advanced features like a tachometer or trip meter, it was sufficient for daily commuting needs.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 07:34 AM The Saluto RX Darknight came with telescopic front suspension and dual shock absorbers at the rear, providing a comfortable ride. However, it lacked disc brakes, relying on drum brakes at both ends, which was a drawback for some buyers.
Thursday, 14 April 2016 04:43 PM The Saluto RX Darknight competed directly with other commuter motorcycles like the Hero Splendor iSmart 110, Mahindra Centuro, and Honda CD 110 Dream. Its competitive pricing and features made it a strong contender in the market.
Mileage

Users have reported varying mileage figures, but generally, it offers around 70-80 kmpl, with some owners achieving up to 81 kmpl on highways. In city conditions, the mileage is typically around 65-75 kmpl, which is quite commendable for a 110cc commuter bike. The Yamaha Blue Core engine is designed to optimize fuel efficiency, making this bike a good option for those who prioritize mileage. Bought the vehicle 13 months back, low milage about 35-40 kmpl, bad customer care response, bad experience at the service center as no skilled mechanics present and even spares are not available. Took atleast 3-15 days to get service done of new vehicle.

Best Features: Vehicle look is decent and light weight. Good for city ride.

Pros: Light Weight, Smooth Ride upto 75 km

Cons: Very less space for tool kit, Even for vehicle documents
