Yamaha Ray ZR Drum Brake UBS

About
The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Drum Brake scooter is powered by a 125cc BS6 engine that produces 8.04 horsepower and 10.3 Nm of torque. It features the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system, which enhances its performance by providing additional torque when needed. The scooter comes with a combined braking system, including drum brakes on both wheels, and a side-stand engine cut-off function for added safety. It has a 5.2-liter fuel tank, a seat height of 785 mm, and rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear alloy wheels with tubeless tires. The Ray ZR 125 also boasts a fully digital instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity through Yamahas Motorcycle Connect X system, although it lacks some advanced features like turn-by-turn navigation. The scooters lightweight and agile nature makes it ideal for navigating through city traffic, while its practical features such as the automatic stop and start system and large under-seat storage make it a reliable companion for daily use.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Drum Brake with Unified Braking System (UBS) is a solid choice for those seeking a blend of performance, practicality, and affordability. This scooter stands out with its lightweight design, weighing just 99 kg, which enhances its maneuverability and comfort, especially in urban environments. The Smart Motor Generator (SMG) system, which acts as an electric motor to provide additional torque, makes it quicker from a standstill and more efficient on steep inclines. However, the stiff suspension can be a drawback on rough roads, and the lack of an external fuel filler cap is a minor inconvenience. Overall, its a great option for daily commutes, offering a good balance of power, fuel efficiency, and features like automatic stop and start, side-stand engine cut-off, and a combined braking system.
Price
The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Drum Brake variant is priced competitively in the Indian market. The average ex-showroom price for this variant is around 87,080. When it comes to the on-road price, you can expect to pay approximately 95,489, which includes additional costs such as RTO, insurance, and other local taxes. This pricing makes it a viable option against its competitors like the TVS Ntorq 125 and Honda Grazia 126, especially considering the hybrid technology and the features it offers. However, the prices can vary slightly depending on the state and local dealership.

Yamaha Ray - Overall Unsatisfactory

This bike is sleek and easy to handle, especially for short people. Center stand is very hard to use. The electric start of the bike constantly has starting trouble and needs to be fixed every time. The bike has good looks and pocket friendly maintenance cost except the electric start service of course.

Fun to Ride

Yamaha Ray is a well-balanced scooter with excellent mileage and sharp handling. The triangular instrument cluster uses clear lens for amazing visibility, be it day or night. Seat comfort is spot on for both pillion and rider and the seat fabric is also of good quality. Seat height is low so that anybody can get their feet down comfortably. If you are under 5 feet tall, you can still handle this scooty well. Surprisingly my friend who is 5' 11” use this scooter for short runs but for long rides it is not comfortable. Being lightweight and compact automatically improves the fuel efficiency and one can expect best in class figures around the 45 km mark. The tail lamp is attractive and quite modern looking. The build quality is excellent and everything seems well put together. The most important thing is that it doesn't look feminine at all and can be ridden by everyone. It is quite lightweight and can be handled by any person easily whether he or she is young or old. The drawback is that it has a weak horn which sometimes create problem in crowded areas. The footrest are not proper which is another negative point of this scooter.

Best Features: Lightweight & Smooth Engine

Pros: Brakes, build quality, light weight, smooth engine, excellent handling, great styling

Cons: Low horn, Improper footrest
