Honda Activa 6G Review

09 Nov, 2023 05:12 PM

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Honda introduced the Activa in the Indian market at a time when the rest of the industry had given up on scooters. Since then, the Activa has been one of the favorite scooters in the country. Needless to say, it has consistently been the best-selling scooter. The new generation model of the country's best-selling scooter Honda Activa has been launched by the company in the Indian market with a new look and style with a completely new style and attitude. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) launched the next-generation model of its popular motor scooter Honda Activa in January 2020. The company has given so many new features and facilities to this scooter to give tremendous competition to the two-wheeler category.

Design and Style

There have also been many changes in the design of the new Honda Activa 6G. Apron has been given in the new scooter, which gives it a completely new look and style than before. Minor changes have been made to the side panels. It gets LED DRLs, LED headlamps, and a new big taillight. An additional fuel filler cap is provided at the rear. These changes make the new Honda Activa more premium and stylish than before. The start-stop button has been given on the right side of the scooter, with the help of which you can easily start or stop the scooter. This differs from the Activa 125 in that the engine shuts down automatically under the start-stop technology.

Some special features have been given in the new Honda Activa 6G. It has multifunction buttons. Passing and start-stop buttons have also been given in this new scooter. The biggest change in this scooter is the new silent-start ACG motor technology given in it. The special thing about this technology is that it starts the scooter without any sound. Honda has also patented this technology. The new Activa 6G gets a semi-digital instrument console. In this, along with remote hatch opening, multi-function-key, other features have also been provided.

The scooter has an external fuel filling cap. In this, the fuel cap of the 5.3-litre fuel tank is not given inside the seat but outside. Features like the One Touch Fuel Lock Opener offer a car-like feel to this scooter. Apart from this, with the opening of the seat, there is a facility of 3 modes to close it. Along with this, a huge boot space of 18 litres is available under the seat and can accommodate a full-face helmet to shopping bags. The seat of the new Activa 6G is longer as compared to the old model. Apart from these features, the company's HET technology has been used in the new Activa 6G.

Engine and Gearbox

The new Honda Activa 6G is powered by a 109.51cc, fan-cooled, 4 Stroke, SI engine with a BS6 fuel emission standard. In this new engine, FIS Technology (Fuel Injection System Technology) has been given instead of Carburetor. The Honda Activa 6G engine produces 7.68 HP power at 8,000 rpm and 8.84 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm.

Instrument Console

The scooter comprises a digital-analogue speedometer as given in the BS6 Activa 125 and depicts all the required micro details. In this, the small digital screen given in it will show other information related to the scooter including fuel consumption and range.

Brakes, Suspension and Tyres

Braking duties in the Honda Activa 6G are handled by drum brakes on both front and rear while the suspension chores are done by telescopic suspension at the front and 3-Step Adjustable Spring Loaded Hydraulic at the rear. The scooter rides on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear wheels which are shod in 90/90 and 90/100 size tubeless tyres, respectively.

Key Features

As far as the given features are concerned, the new Honda Activa 6G comes fitted with an LED DC headlight, multi-function unit, engine start/stop switch, double lid external fuel fill, PGM-Fi, ample under-seat storage and more.

Top Speed and Mileage

Coming to the performance, the new Activa 6G is capable of accelerating from 0-60 kmph in around 10 seconds. The company claims that the average mileage of the new Activa 6G will be 55 to 60 kmpl with a top speed of 85 kmph.

Colour Options

2024 Honda Activa 6G is available in India in six colour options - Decent Blue, Matte Magnificent Copper Metallic, Rebel Red Metallic, Black, Pearl Precious White and Matte Axis Grey Metallic.

Price Range

2024 Honda Activa 6G on-road price is Rs 87,745 in Delhi, Rs 90,718 in Mumbai, Rs 88,812 in Kolkata and Rs 89,956 in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest Honda dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.

Ex-showroom Price & On-Road Price

Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentages for the State Registration Charges.

In the market, the New Honda Activa 6G will compete with TVS Jupiter, Yamaha Fascino, Hero Maestro Edge and Suzuki Access.

Verdict- Should You Buy it?

2024 Activa 6G does not have gears and is easier to use in comparison to a motorcycle. It has an 18-liter capacity under-seat space, a wide footboard, a carry bag hook, a glove box to keep your smartphone and a charging port. It is convenient for women to drive the Activa and is a perfect match if you are on the way to the market, as the large under-seat space can accommodate a number of shopping bags. It is more expensive than a bike but is multipurpose and suitable for everyone, from teenagers to women in sarees to the elderly.

Strongly advise taking a look at other scooter models

After purchasing the new Honda Activa 6G in February 2021, I initially thought it was a good scooter. However, after a few days of use, I started to notice some strange noises coming from the engine and the brakes seemed to be of poor quality. Additionally, it had a much worse mileage than my previous Honda Activa 3G.

Therefore, I would strongly advise taking a look at other scooter models if you are considering buying the Honda Activa 6G. I found that there are other scooters that offer better performance, better mileage, and are overall a more reliable choice.

Needs improvement

One of the most remarkable features of the Honda Activa 6G is its double hook-up design, but unfortunately it is open ended, which can be dangerous if you go over a bump. The start button with an on/off feature is an interesting addition, but it is not entirely necessary as you can simply turn the key off to shut down the engine.

I had an issue with the temporary number sticker I was removing above the petrol intake cover. Although I had closed it, it opened up and I can’t be sure if this is a genuine defect or not.

I would like to also point out that the tank size could be increased as it can get empty quite quickly when used as a daily commuter.

Performance is not up to the mark

Honda Activa 6G has a great look, with a sleek and stylish design. However, its performance is not up to the mark with a mileage of less than 40 kmpl. The cost of the bike is also quite high compared to other bikes. To improve the quality of the model, Honda should focus on improving its performance and reducing the cost of the bike. This would surely help in making the Activa 6G a better choice among the customers.

Good and Reliable..Little too Expensive

I've been riding this for last 6 month and the best part is never felt the lack of power in the time of need compared to other bikes on the road..the disc brakes are impressive and works well.the mileage could have been little better, now getting around 40 kmpl, and the head lights are a bit too shallow.

Best Features: Disc brake, wider longer seat, fresh looks with chrome finish

Pros: Riding comfort, pickup

Cons: Head light, suspension

I'm amazed at how reliable and durable my old scooter was. Even after 15 years of use, it still had plenty of life left in it when we sold it. That speaks volumes about the quality of the product and how well it was maintained. Even though we didn't do any extensive maintenance on it, it never gave us any trouble and kept running without fail. It's a testament to the quality and reliability of this scooter, and it's no wonder why so many people wanted to buy it even after all these years.

Honda has been on the forefront of innovation in the past few years with their introduction of direct fuel injection and the silent start feature. However, they have yet to make the switch to a fully digital meter with connectivity features. While this feature would be beneficial to the customer, Honda has yet to make the switch.

The AHO system should also be configured such that the lights will turn on only after the engine is on, as seen in some of their competitors like TVS. Such a configuration would not only make the lights more efficient, but also make for a more pleasant driving experience.

As an owner of an Activa 6G anniversary edition, I can attest to the fact that the silent start with direct fuel injection is revolutionary and makes for an enjoyable riding experience. Overall, Honda should consider making the switch to a more modern and efficient system.
