Expert Review by Maxabout

Yamaha YZF-R125 is one of the best looking bikes in the world in 125cc segment. It is a speculation that Yamaha will launch this bike in India. But no official statement has been made by the company. If it is launched in India then, for sure it will be a huge success to Yamaha because it has got the best looks and is technically very sound.

Design and Style

With its unmistakable R-series styling, the R125 stands out in the crowd and is easy to be mistaken as a much larger capacity machine. The dual headlights have a distinctive R-series look, while the low frontal area and small tail of R125 is clearly influenced by the bigger R-series bikes. And like the chassis, the bodywork is full-sized, making this new sports bike the most impressive looking machines in the class. High build quality is evident wherever you look on the new R125 and the front braking system is another example of Yamaha’s commitment to using only high-specification components.

Just like its larger R-series brothers, the new R125 features a lightweight Delta-box frame which delivers an optimum balance of strength and rigidity. The twin spar Delta-box design has proved to be one of the lightest and best-handling frame designs in the super sport category and its use on the new R125 underlines Yamaha’s total commitment to building the best-handling machine in the class. One of the most significant features of the new R125 is that it has been constructed with a full-sized chassis, which is unique in its segment. The distinctive 10-spoke alloy wheels give the R125 a unique look. It has a length of 1955 mm, width of 680 mm and a height of 1065 mm as its dimensions with a weight of 140 Kg. The bike has a fuel tank capacity of 11.50-litres.

Instrument Panel

Yamaha YZF-R125 features a digital-analogue instrument console which includes a digital speedometer, digital dual trip meter, digital fuel-gauge and an analogue tachometer. It also bears indicators for pass-light, low fuel, oil and battery.

Engine and Gearbox

The R125 is the most advanced 125 production super sport machine that Yamaha has ever built. This radical, high-revving, fuel-injected 125 is the work of the same engineers who created our legendary R1 and R6 super sport bikes. And, as you’d expect, the R125 is packed with advanced Moto GP technology as well as a whole range of R-series type engine and chassis features. Its 125cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, 4-valve, single cylinder, SOHC engine is tuned to deliver free-revving performance right through to maximum power of 14.88 bhp at 9000 rpm and a maximum torque of 12.4 Nm at 8000 rpm. For instant response and efficient operation this remarkable 6-speed R125 is equipped with a compact fuel injection system.

Brakes and Suspension

Yamaha R125 features a large diameter 292mm front single disc with a 230mm diameter rear disc make for effective stopping power. The suspension duties are handled by upside down telescopic fork at the front and linked mono-cross with spring upload at the back.

Ride and Handling

The race-inspired chassis of Yamaha R125 features a delta-box frame and aluminum swinging arm for outstanding handling performance and lightweight 5-spoke wheels help to minimize unsprung weight to give impressive road holding. By keeping unsprung weight low, this high quality swinging arm allows the link-type rear suspension system to operate more efficiently and deliver more responsive handling qualities. The extended wheelbase of 1355 mm offers you a stable ride while the 155 mm of ground clearance makes it perfect for rough and tough roads.
