Yamaha R1 Review
Quick Comparison
Yamaha R1 is their finest sportbike of all time. The liter class machine is a perfect blend of lightweight performance and unconventional styling. In India, the flagship Yamaha R1 is priced at INR 18,16,192 (ex-showroom). It has seen drop of around INR 6 lakh worth price in last few months as Yamaha changed the country of import initially and later, tax on completely built units was reduced by a big margin. Both factors made this superbike feel more genuinely priced than ever. R1 is powered by a 998cc, four cylinder engine producing 200PS at 13,500 rpm and 112.4 Nm at 11,500 rpm.
The motorcycle weighs 200 kg, including full fuel tank and oil. Carrying 17 liter fuel tank, Yamaha R1 is strictly a track based machine and getting the true benefits of ownership require one to have some sort of membership with a track loving racing club. Outside India, Yamaha R1 is available in three different variants. Those looking for automatic electronic adjustable suspension, better brakes and much more can go for R1M while others who are just into leisure riding can go for R1S. The former is more expensive by almost $6300 (INR 4.20 lakh lakh approx).
Yamaha R1S is priced $1700 (INR 1.14 lakh approx) lower than standard variant. The brand once launched Yamaha R1M in India but due to least demand, they had to cancel their plan of further expansion and discontinue that specific model. Design lines on all there variants stay same while shade options are specific and vary from one variant to another. Buyers of Yamaha R1 are very few in India. Not just that, complete liter class sportbike lineup has limited number of buyers in India. Majority of owners prefer lesser tempting products like Ninja 1000 and smaller bikes in India.
