TVS Scooty Teenz Review
Quick Review by Maxabout Team
Scooty Teenz is probably the cheapest gearless scooter available in India which runs on petrol. TVS has designed this Scooty for teenage girls and first time riders. Lets’ try to know more about the exclusive features of this ‘gals’ oriented Scooty.
Exterior
Scooty Teenz borrows most of the styling bits from the first gen Scooty. It looks like the modern version of Scooty with tiny tyres. The V-shaped front features dual tone body panel with integrated sharp front fender. There are noticeable cuts on the body panel which makes it look sporty and attractive. The front number plate has been positioned right in the centre of this panel. TVS has left false air-inlets just above this number plate. The face of this Scooty is the main attraction in terms of styling. It has an integrated cowl and visor with rear view mirrors mounted on the top of this cowl. These mirrors are quite stylish and enhance the visual appeal of Scooty Teenz. This Scooty uses clear lens headlight and side indicators. These side indicators are integrated in the headlight and add premium touch to it. The sporty graphics on its up-swept side panels make it look catchy. Its body colored full size rear grab rail gives proportionate look to this Scooty. Just below this twin layered grab rail, you will notice a big tail light which gets integrated with orange colored side indicators. This tail section resembles a lot to its elder sibling Scooty pep plus. The rear tyre gets covered by its simple fender.
Instrument Console
TVS Scooty Teenz has a very basic instrument console which even lacks a fuel gauge although it’s clearly visible and looks well placed. It features an analogue speedometer and odometer. Few other indicators also lay in side this instrument panel.
Engine and Gearbox
TVS uses the downsized engine version of its Scooty Pep Plus in Teenz. It’s a 2-stroke, mono-cylinder 60cc engine which produces a power output of 3.5 bhp at 5500 rpm. The maximum torque output of this air-cooled engine is of 4.5 Nm which arrives at 5000 rpm. The Scooty Teenz uses an automatic transmission.
Acceleration and Performance
It’s an entry level engine with small specifications. You never expect for acceleration and performance from such small engines. This engine is just to serve your purposes without any kind of fun. The rubber band effect is quite evident in this engine as it takes ages to speed up. It can crawl at the speed of 20-30km/hr in city traffic and may reach the top speed of 50km/hr if pushed hard. With a pillion rider, this machine breathes really hard in city traffic where you constantly need instant pick up. One can use Teenz to cover short distances as you would not like to drive it more than 20km/hr at once. It feels better after the initial stage though. Yes, it’s better than electric cycles but it is nowhere near its own siblings in terms of acceleration. The engine makes a lot of noise if you try to rev it hard. You won’t be pleased with its engine refinement.
Mileage
Its light weight and slow performance helps Teenz to get impressive fuel economy. It may give you a fuel economy of around 70km/ltr in daily use which may vary as per your driving style.
Comfort while Driving
Comfort while driving is the best part about Teenz. It’s a spacious Scooty which can be easily occupied by two adults. The full size seat of Scooty is quite specious and well padded. One can sit comfortably on it with legs placed on its foot board. The road visibility is also quite good and you can easily drive it in city traffic. The handle bar used in Teenz is vibration less and offers firm palm grip. The most important feature which enhances your comfort is the availability of an electric start. It plays a significant role in daily use where you constantly have to on/off your vehicle.
Storage Space and Safety Features
It’s a very spacious Scooty with considerable under seat storage space. The flat foot board also allows you to transport packets and boxes. TVS has also placed a bag hook at its front which can be used frequently by the rider. Its powerful clear lens headlight offers you clear view of roads at nights.
Suspension and Brakes
Teenz uses leading link type of suspension at its front while it’s equipped with a hydraulic mono shock absorber at the back. Teenz has powerful set of drum brakes on its both wheels which effectively stop this light machine. It has a front drum brake of 110mm and a powerful rear drum brake of 130mm.
Ride and Handling
Scooty Teenz doesn’t disappoint you in this department. Despite its small tyres, this Scooty feels quite confident in terms of ride and handling. It stays stable thanks to its wheelbase of 1220mm while its ground clearance of 140mm improves it turning abilities. Only big potholes manages to bother you otherwise it has a capable suspension system. The braking system is also quite impressive as you never find it hard to stop it at any speed. The light handling proves to be a boon in city traffic and markets. It can be easily parked and turned in tight spaces. More or less, Teenz feel like its siblings in terms of ride and handling.
Tyre Size, Shades and Variants
TVS has fitted 10 inches alloy wheels in Teenz. Scooty Teenz is only available in one variant and three different colors.
Verdict
Scooty Teenz is priced at INR 31K (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). It’s considerably cheaper than most of the entry level gearless scooters in India. It has a certain target audience and we feel it’s a perfect option for them as it’s far better than electrically charged cycles and scooters. It looks stylish and has a superior built quality and delivers impressive fuel economy. Smart storage space and capable suspension and braking system are some of its biggest advantages. We are not saying it’s completely worth but it can be considered as an economical Scooty which can be used for short distances.
