Honda Mobilio Diesel RS

About
The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS is a compact MPV that aims to balance practicality and efficiency. It comes with a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, producing 100 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, which is efficient but somewhat noisy. The car features a 5-speed manual gearbox and has a top speed limited to 149 kmhr. The interior is spacious, with reclining and sliding seats, but it lacks in terms of comfort and quality, with cheap plastics and missing insulation. The Mobilio excels in boot space and foldable rear seats, making it versatile for cargo and passenger needs. However, it faces stiff competition from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which offers better value and after-sales service. The ride quality is smooth, especially on highways, but the car can feel sluggish with a full load and lacks certain features expected at its price point.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS, while practical and efficient, falls short in several key areas. The diesel engine, though capable and fuel-efficient, is loud and somewhat unrefined, particularly at higher RPMs. The interior, though spacious, is marred by cheap plastics, uneven shut lines, and the lack of several practical features such as seatbelt height adjustment and Bluetooth connectivity. The ride quality is smooth, especially at higher speeds, but the cars stability and handling can be questionable, especially when fully loaded. The exterior design, though attractive to some, lacks the symmetry and differentiation from its smaller siblings. Overall, while the Mobilio has its strengths, such as its fuel economy and boot space, it does not offer enough value to justify its premium over competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
Price
The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS was priced competitively in its segment, but the exact prices varied based on the region and the time of purchase. Generally, the ex-showroom price for the top variant of the Mobilio Diesel RS in India was around 12-13 lakhs. However, the on-road price, including taxes, registration, and other costs, could range from 14.5 to 16 lakhs. This pricing puts it in direct competition with other compact MPVs, but the value proposition is somewhat weakened by the cost-cutting measures and the lack of certain features that are standard in other vehicles at this price point.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 05 July 2017 01:36 AM The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS, known for its sleek design and robust engine, has been off the market in India since its discontinuation in 2017. The decision was made due to poor sales and stiff competition from other MPVs like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. I think this was a wise move by Honda to focus on more profitable models.
Tuesday, 20 June 2017 08:25 AM In its final days on the Indian market, the Honda Mobilio Diesel RS was priced around Rs. 11.87 lakh, making it a premium option in the MPV segment. It featured projector headlamps, alloy wheels, and a powerful 1498 cc diesel engine. The pricing, however, was a significant factor in its declining sales.
Thursday, 02 March 2017 06:05 PM Hondas decision to discontinue the Mobilio in India was also influenced by the upcoming launch of the BR-V, which was seen as a more promising model for the market. The BR-V offered a mix of SUV-like features and MPV functionality, making it a more attractive option for consumers. I believe this strategic shift was necessary for Honda to stay competitive.
Thursday, 12 January 2017 07:27 PM The Mobilio Diesel RS had several convenience features, including electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, power windows, and a manual air conditioner. These features, however, were not enough to overcome the pricing and competition challenges it faced in the Indian market.
Friday, 02 January 2015 12:31 AM Despite its discontinuation, the Honda Mobilio Diesel RS remains a notable model in Hondas history in India, known for its blend of style, comfort, and performance. I think it was an important step for Honda in exploring the MPV segment, even if it didnt achieve long-term success.
Wednesday, 10 September 2014 06:52 AM The Mobilio Diesel RS was part of Hondas strategy to compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Despite its initial success, with sales topping the Ertiga in August 2014, it eventually lost ground due to the Ertigas updates and competitive pricing. I believe the Mobilios design and features were not enough to sustain long-term market interest.
Wednesday, 23 July 2014 11:11 AM The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS was launched in India in July 2014, built on the extended Brio platform. It offered a spacious cabin, good fuel efficiency, and a comfortable ride. Initially, it received a positive response, but sales dwindled over time due to various market factors. I think the Mobilios initial success was a testament to Hondas engineering prowess.
Wednesday, 23 July 2014 03:38 AM The Mobilio Diesel RS featured a 1498 cc iDTEC diesel engine, producing 98 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. It also came with safety features like dual front airbags and ABS, making it a reliable choice for family transportation. Despite these features, it failed to maintain a strong market presence.
Wednesday, 23 July 2014 05:36 PM The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS had a manual transmission with a 5-speed gearbox and offered a fuel efficiency of 24.2 kmpl. Its ground clearance of 185 mm and spacious interior made it suitable for both urban and occasional long journeys. However, the rising competition and pricing issues led to its decline.
Friday, 20 June 2014 05:05 PM Honda introduced the Mobilio RS variant in Indonesia, which later influenced the Indian market. This variant came with cosmetic upgrades such as revised alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and a tail gate spoiler, enhancing its appeal. However, these updates did not significantly boost sales in India.
Mileage
Wednesday, 20 November 2024 02:32 PM The Honda Mobilio Diesel RS offers commendable fuel efficiency, which is a significant factor for buyers in India. With a claimed fuel economy of 24.2 kml, real-world figures typically range between 15 to 17 kml, depending on driving conditions. This makes it a cost-effective option for those concerned about running costs. However, the actual mileage can vary based on load, driving style, and road conditions.

11 Mar, 2015 04:17 AM

Synopsis

Honda is one of the leading automobile manufacturers of the world and has a lot of big names in their stable that made a lot of impact at the world's stage and got praise and success. This Japanese automobile company is steadily making its progress in the Indian market also. Recently, they showcased their Brio-based mini-MPV given the name, Mobilio at 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta which made its entry in Indian market on 23rd July, 2014. It is a seven-seater MPV based on the platform of Brio and Amaze, actually can be called as the third generation Brio or Amaze. The RS petrol serves as the top end variants of Mobilio. Let's take a closer look at the details of this MPV.

Exterior

The exterior of Honda Mobilio shares a similar look with Brio at the front but not altogether same. It has got some new stylish features which make it unique and comfortable as well. The RS variant has got certain subtle changes from the standard Mobilio also which includes a new body kit, new front and rear bumpers, all new front grille, rear chrome band, roof moulding garnish and tail-gate spoiler. It features impressive and sharp cat eye shaped curvy headlights with integrated clear lens indicators.

It features a stylish bonnet, nose with an aggressive company's logo, sporty bumper with newer faux air dam at bottom surrounded by a pair of round fog lamps, electrically adjustable body colored ORVMs with integrated side indicators, a floating D-pillar that hovers over the shoulder line, 15-inch alloy wheels that goes well with the aggressive flared arches, body colored door handles, kink in the belt-line, a curved tailgate with an angular recess for the license plate in the center and the rear windshield with a wiper, washer and defogger.

Interior

Honda has picked the dashboard from Brio or Amaze with certain subtle changes. The high quality materials are used to design the interiors which are dipped in a black shade. The major change seen is the availability of a 6.1 inches audio-visual navigation touchscreen infotainment system which is easy to access and operate. The roof mounted AC with three vents and three fan speeds at the rear side along with chromed driver side AC vents are quite chiller. There is a plenty of legroom and headroom for the front passengers while there is a little discomfort at the third row for tall heights.

All the seats in the rows can be reclined in order to provide a maximum comfort. The seats are wrapped in artificial leather which gives it a classy look along with center arm rests but they do not fold flat though. The three spoke power steering wheel along with metallic strips and chromed company's badge goes well with the interiors. Other features include power windows, accessory power sockets, vanity mirror, room lamps, head restraints and tick holder. The RS variant gets an additional wooden trim on the central console, rear parking camera and RS badging on the seats apart from standard Mobilio.

Dimensions and Fuel Tank Capacity

The RS variant is a bit longer than the standard one with a length of 4398mm, width of 1683mm and a height of 1603mm. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 42.0-litres which gives you a great range.

Engine and Gearbox

The petrol Mobilio RS will be powered by a 1.5L iVTEC petrol engine which generates a maximum power of 118 bhp at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 146 Nm at 4600 rpm. This 1497cc petrol engine is mated to a 5 speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. Honda has launched the diesel variant for now and it is powered by a 1498cc, 4 cyl DOHC i-DTEC engine, with max power and torque of 98.6 Bhp at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm at 1750 rpm respectively.

Brakes and Suspension

The Mobilio RS has got disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear that receive assistance from anti-lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. As far as suspension part is concerned, the front axle is coupled with McPherson Strut system while the rear axle is paired with H-shape torsion beam which keeps the vehicle balanced.

Safety Features

For the safety, Mobilio RS is featured with key-less entry, alarm clock, advanced engine immobilisers, dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), 3-point ELR seat belts, side impact protection, traction control, child safety lock and central locking system.

Variant-wise features of Honda Mobilio

The E variants is equipped with 2nd and 3rd row reclining seats, AC, power steering and a tilt adjustable steering. The S adds a 2-DIN audio system, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents, rear defogger, keyless entry and driver seat height adjustmens. The top-end V gets dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, alloy wheels, rear wiper and washer, foglights, two-tone interior and second row sliding seats.
