General information and overview

The Honda Mobilio (2017) is a seven-seater MPV designed for Indian families and urban users requiring versatility and space without compromising drivability. Measuring 4386mm in length with a 2652mm wheelbase and 189mm ground clearance, it ensures a stable ride over typical Indian road conditions. Powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 118 PS mated to a CVT automatic transmission with Earth Dreams technology, it delivers smooth power delivery and good fuel economy. The exterior features a modern design with new chrome accents and 15-inch alloy wheels, while inside, it provides comfortable seating with reclining and tumble second-row seats for easy access to the third row. Amenities include twin blower air conditioning, touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth, USB, and auxiliary inputs, steering-mounted audio controls, and rear parking camera in higher trims. Safety is addressed with ABS and EBD as standard. Although the interior materials are simple, the overall build and Honda’s reliability credentials give it an edge. The Mobilio competes effectively against rivals like Maruti Ertiga by offering a more spacious cabin, better handling, and efficient running costs, making it a compelling choice for Indian buyers seeking a practical family MPV.

The 2017 Honda Mobilio V is a seven-seater MPV designed for Indian families who need space, comfort and a car-like driving experience. It measures 4386mm in length with a long 2652mm wheelbase, offering a stable ride and generous cabin space. The third row is more usable than many rivals, with decent legroom and headroom, and the boot offers 223 litres with all seats up, expanding to 521 litres when the third row is folded. It is powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine mated to a CVT, delivering smooth performance and decent refinement. Key features include projector headlamps, touch-screen infotainment with Bluetooth, rear AC vents, dual airbags and ABS with EBD. The suspension is tuned for comfort, handling Indian roads well, and the 189mm ground clearance helps with rough patches. While the interior plastics are hard and the feature list could be richer, the Mobilio stands out for its spaciousness, reliability and ease of driving, making it a practical family MPV in the used car market.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The 2017 Honda Mobilio stands out as a practical and spacious MPV that delivers a strong combination of performance, comfort, and versatility for Indian families. It comfortably seats seven passengers with ample legroom and decent third-row space, making it ideal for weekend trips and daily commuting alike. The ride quality is stable and smooth, supported by a commanding ground clearance well-suited for Indian roads. The petrol i-VTEC engine coupled with a CVT offers a refined driving experience with good fuel efficiency. While the interior lacks some modern refinement like climate control and has a somewhat plain design, features such as twin blower AC for the rear and touchscreen media system in higher variants add value. Comparatively, it offers a more spacious and better-handling alternative against rivals like the Maruti Ertiga, with better mileage and driving dynamics. However, some improvements in seat cushioning and interior material quality would have enhanced its appeal further. Overall, it is a well-rounded, reliable, and economically sensible choice in the mid-size MPV segment in India.
December 7, 2025
The 2017 Honda Mobilio V is a practical and well-rounded MPV that works well for Indian families needing a spacious, comfortable and easy-to-drive vehicle. It offers a roomy cabin with good legroom and headroom across all three rows, making it a strong contender against the Maruti Ertiga and similar MPVs. The 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with CVT is smooth and refined, delivering adequate performance for city and highway use, while the ride quality is stable and composed on Indian roads. Features like projector headlamps, rear AC vents, touch-screen infotainment and dual airbags add to its appeal. However, the interior plastics feel a bit hard and basic, and the absence of automatic climate control is a miss at this price point. The boot space is decent with all seats up and expands nicely when the third row is folded. Safety is decent with dual airbags and ABS with EBD, but it lacks rear parking sensors and camera in many variants. Overall, it’s a solid choice if space, comfort and Honda’s reliability are priorities, but it’s important to check the used car market carefully since Honda discontinued the Mobilio in India.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

Honda has decided to discontinue the Mobilio in India due to poor sales. The model has been removed from Hondas official website, marking the end of its production and sales in the Indian market. This move comes after the vehicle failed to gain significant traction despite its initial success. I think this decision was inevitable given the competitive MPV market in India.
July 5, 2017
In March 2017, Honda announced that it had stopped selling the Mobilio in India due to poor demand. The company was considering whether to introduce a new version of the model within the next two months. This decision highlighted the challenges Honda faced in maintaining a strong presence in the Indian MPV segment. I believe the lack of significant updates to the model contributed to its declining sales.
March 2, 2017
The 2017 facelift of the Honda Mobilio introduced a digital airconditioning system and revised seats with separate headrests. These changes were part of Hondas effort to enhance the comfort and features of the vehicle. However, these updates were not enough to boost sales in the Indian market. I think the focus on comfort was a good move, but it needed more substantial changes to attract buyers.
January 13, 2017
In 2017, it was announced that the facelifted Mobilio would be available in Thailand from May and the Philippines from July. This expansion indicated Hondas efforts to keep the model relevant in other markets despite its struggles in India. The updates included a new front grille and other cosmetic changes to enhance the vehicles appeal.
January 13, 2017
The 2017 Honda Mobilio facelift was revealed in January 2017, featuring several cosmetic changes. The updated MPV includes a new front fascia, swept back horizontal headlamps with black details, and LED daytime running lights. The interior also saw upgrades, including a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on higher variants. I think these updates were a step in the right direction, but they came a bit too late to save the model in India.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the 2017 Honda Mobilio is priced between approximately ₹6.49 lakh to ₹12.25 lakh ex-showroom, depending on the trim and variant chosen. The V variant, which balances features and price well, falls in the lower middle of this range. On-road prices will vary significantly based on the city owing to differing state taxes, insurance, and registration fees, typically adding around ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 or more to the ex-showroom price. Compared to competitors like the Maruti Ertiga, the Mobilio tends to be slightly more expensive but justifies this premium with its spacious cabin, better ride comfort, and the reliability associated with Honda. Its pricing positions it as a premium offering in the MPV segment without stepping into the high-cost territory of larger SUVs like the Toyota Innova. For buyers seeking a seven-seater with good build quality and a refined powertrain in the ₹7-13 lakh bracket, the Mobilio presents an attractive value proposition, especially if prioritizing passenger comfort and driving ease over purely budget constraints.
December 7, 2025
The 2017 Honda Mobilio V was launched in India with an ex-showroom price range of around ₹6.5 lakh to ₹12.25 lakh, depending on the variant and fuel type. In major Indian cities, the on-road price at the time would have been roughly ₹7.5 lakh to ₹14 lakh, factoring in registration, insurance, road tax and other local charges. The petrol V variant, which is the top-spec model, would have been priced closer to the upper end of this range. Since the Mobilio is now discontinued in India, there are no new units available, and buyers will have to look at the used car market. In the current used car scenario, a well-maintained 2017 Mobilio V can be found in the range of ₹4.5 lakh to ₹6.5 lakh, depending on location, condition, mileage and service history. Compared to rivals like the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta, the Mobilio offers a car-like driving experience and better fuel efficiency, but its resale value has taken a hit due to discontinuation and lower brand presence in the MPV segment. When evaluating price, it’s important to factor in long-term ownership costs, spare parts availability and resale, as Honda’s service network and parts pricing can be a bit higher than mass-market brands.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The 2017 Honda Mobilio offers competitive fuel efficiency well-suited for Indian conditions. Real-world mileage typically ranges from 18 to 20 km per litre in city traffic with AC on, and up to around 28-30 km per litre on highways when driven conservatively. This makes it one of the more economical petrol MPVs in its class, helping keep running costs reasonable for family use. Its fuel tank capacity of 42 litres also supports good driving range, minimizing frequent refuels during long trips. For buyers focused on mileage and operational economy, this efficiency combined with Honda’s known reliability makes the Mobilio a cost-effective option over the long term.
December 7, 2025
The Honda Mobilio V with the 1.5-litre petrol engine and CVT delivers real-world mileage of around 14-16 kmpl in mixed city and highway driving, with some owners reporting up to 18-20 kmpl on highways at steady speeds. In heavy city traffic with frequent AC use, expect around 12-14 kmpl. Diesel variants, when available, offered better efficiency, around 18-20 kmpl in real conditions. For buyers focused on running costs, the Mobilio is more efficient than larger MPVs like the Innova but slightly behind the Ertiga in city fuel economy. The 42-litre fuel tank gives a good range, reducing refuelling stops on long trips. Overall, it strikes a decent balance between space and fuel efficiency, making it a practical choice for families who drive moderate to high distances.

Honda is one of the leading automobile manufacturers of the world and has a lot of big names in their stable that made a lot of impact at the world's stage and got praise and success. This Japanese automobile company is steadily making its progress in the Indian market also. Recently, they showcased their Brio-based mini-MPV given the name, Mobilio at 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta which made its entry in Indian market on 23rd July, 2014. It is a seven-seater MPV based on the platform of Brio and Amaze, actually can be called as the third product on this platform. The price range of Honda Mobilio is Rs. 6,49,000 - Rs. 10,86,000 and it is available in 7 variants - Petrol E, Petrol S, Petrol V, Diesel E, Diesel S, Diesel V and Diesel RS. Let's take a closer look at the details of this MPV.

Exterior

The exterior of Honda Mobilio shares a similar look with Brio at the front but not altogether same. It has got some new stylish features which make it unique and comfortable as well. It includes impressive and sharp cat eye shaped curvy headlights with integrated clear lens indicators, stylish bonnet, a large front grille with a prominent chrome bar running along the center, nose with an aggressive company's logo, sporty bumper with newer faux air dam at bottom surrounded by a pair of round fog lamps, electrically adjustable body colored ORVMs with integrated side indicator and a floating D-pillar that hovers over the shoulder line.

Honda Mobilio comes equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels that goes well with the aggressive flared arches, body colored door handles, kink in the belt-line, a curved tailgate with an angular recess for the license plate in the center, tail lights been integrated into both the rear panel as well as tailgate and the rear windshield with a wiper, washer and defogger.

Interior

Honda has picked the dashboard from Brio or Amaze with certain subtle changes. The high quality materials are used to design the interiors which are dipped in classy beige and black shades along with wooden trims on the dashboard and door panels. The major change seen is the availability of an audio-visual navigation touchscreen infotainment system which is easy to access and operate. The roof mounted AC with three vents and three fan speeds at the rear side along with chromed driver side AC vents are quite chillier.

There is a plenty of legroom and headroom for the front passengers while there is a little discomfort at the third row for tall heights. All the seats in the rows can be reclined in order to provide a maximum comfort. The seats are wrapped in artificial leather which gives it a classy look along with center arm rests but they do not fold flat though. The three spoke power steering wheel along with metallic strips and chromed company's badge goes well with the interiors. Other features include power windows, accessory power sockets, vanity mirror, room lamps, head restraints and tick holder.

Dimensions and Fuel Tank Capacity

The Honda Mobilio MPV is much longer than the Ertiga with a length of 4386mm, width of 1683mm and a height of 1603mm as its dimensions. The car has a fuel tank capacity of 42.0-litres which gives you a great range.

Engine and Gearbox

The Mobilio MPV is available in both diesel as well as petrol options. The 1.5L, four cylinder DOHC iDTEC diesel engine generates a maximum power of 98.6 bhp at 3600 rpm with utmost torque of 200 Nm at 1750 rpm and is mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, 1.5L iVTEC petrol engine kicks out a maximum power of 118 bhp at 6600 rpm and a maximum torque of 145 Nm at 4600 rpm. This 1497cc petrol engine is mated to a 5 speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox.

Mileage

The ARAI tested figures for the petrol version is 17.3 kmpl on highways. On the other hand, the diesel variant is rated at 24.2 kmpl on highways. It serves as one of the most fuel efficient MPVs in India.

Brakes and Suspensions

The proficient braking system of MPV has got disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear that receive assistance from anti-lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. As far as suspension part is concerned, the front axle is coupled with McPherson Strut system while the rear axle is paired with a torsion beam which keeps the vehicle balanced.

Ride and Handling

It has a large wheelbase of 2652mm and a good ground clearance of 189mm for a stable and bump-free ride. The Mobilio petrol weighs 85 kg less as compared to the diesel one which makes it lighter in weight and a bit more bouncy. The ride quality feels stiffer in the petrol version and it serves as a nimble handler that feels more or less Amaze-like drive.

Safety Features

For the safety, it is featured with key-less entry, advanced engine immobilisers, dual front airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), 3-point ELR seat belts, side impact protection, traction control, child safety lock and central locking system.

Variants and Shades

Honda Mobilio is available in seven shades - Brilliant Gold Metallic, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Carnelian Red Pearl, Majestic Blue Metallic, Tafetta White, Urban Titanium and the Pearl Black exclusively for the RS version. Honda Mobilio is available in 7 variants which are Petrol E, Petrol S, Petrol V, Diesel E, Diesel S, Diesel V and Diesel RS.

Variant-wise features of Honda Mobilio

The E variants is equipped with 2nd and 3rd row reclining seats, AC, power steering and a tilt adjustable steering. The S adds a 2-DIN audio system, steering mounted controls, rear AC vents, rear defogger, keyless entry and driver seat height adjustmens. The top-end V gets dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, alloy wheels, rear wiper and washer, foglights, two-tone interior and second row sliding seats. The Mobilio RS diesel gets projector headlamps, chrome garnishing on the outside, electrically adjustable and folding wing mirrors with turn indicators, and a tailgate spoiler. ABS and EBD are standard across all diesel variants of the car

Price

The ex-showroom, Delhi price range for this luxurious compact MPV is INR Rs. 6,49,000 - Rs. 10,86,000, which may vary.

Verdict

Overall, Honda Mobilio seems like a power pack of performance, style, comfort, space, luxury, technology and price. It competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Chevrolet Enjoy.

Climate control is missing. Otherwise it will give a tough competition to Innova, the segment leader now in India. I am sure Honda will note this for the next edition.
