Datsun GO Plus T (O) CVT Review
Overview
The Datsun GO Plus T (O) CVT is a compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) designed to address the needs of Indian families looking for an affordable, practical, and easy-to-drive 7-seater. As one of the few MPVs in its price range to offer a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), it stands out for those who want the convenience of an automatic without breaking the bank. This comprehensive review covers the vehicle’s design, powertrain, features, comfort, safety, and what it’s like to own and drive.
Exterior Design and Dimensions
Modern and Purposeful Styling
- Front Fascia: The car features a bold hexagonal grille that’s flanked by angular headlamps, giving it a confident and contemporary presence on the road. The sculpted bonnet and subtle chrome accents add a premium touch, making the car look more upscale than its price might suggest.
- Side Profile: Clean lines run along the sides, complemented by blacked-out B-pillars and body-colored mirrors and door handles. These elements not only enhance the car’s appearance but also contribute to its aerodynamic efficiency.
- Rear Design: At the back, connected tail lamps and a subtle integrated spoiler lend a sense of width and modernity. The rear windshield is large, aiding both visibility and aesthetics.
Dimensions and Practicality
- Length: 3,995 mm – Compact enough for city use, yet long enough to accommodate three rows of seats.
- Width: 1,636 mm – Offers decent shoulder room for passengers in the first two rows.
- Height: 1,507 mm – The high roofline ensures ample headroom, even for taller occupants.
- Wheelbase: 2,450 mm – This extended wheelbase translates to better legroom for passengers and a more stable ride.
- Ground Clearance: 180 mm – Generous for an MPV in this segment, making it easier to tackle speed bumps and rough roads.
- Boot Space: 347 litres (with third row folded) – With the last row down, the GO Plus becomes a spacious hauler for luggage or shopping.
- Fuel Tank: 35 litres – Sufficient for city commutes and short highway trips without frequent refueling.
- Kerb Weight: 950 kg – Light for a 7-seater, which helps with fuel efficiency and nimble handling.
Powertrain and Performance
Engine and Transmission
- Engine: 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol – This engine is tuned for a balance of efficiency and everyday usability, making it ideal for city traffic and occasional highway runs.
- Power Output: 76.43 bhp @ 6,000 rpm – Provides adequate performance for a car of this size, ensuring it never feels sluggish in urban conditions.
- Torque: 104 Nm @ 4,400 rpm – Offers enough grunt for quick getaways at traffic lights and smooth acceleration.
- Transmission: CVT automatic – The CVT delivers seamless gear shifts, reducing the “jerkiness” often experienced in traditional automatics, and is especially appreciated in stop-and-go traffic.
- Drive Layout: Front-wheel drive – Standard for most compact cars, offering predictable handling and good traction.
- Emission Standard: BS VI compliant – Meets the latest emission norms, making it environmentally responsible.
On-Road Performance
- Acceleration (0-100 km/h): Around 14.2 seconds – Not a sprinter, but quick enough for daily driving and overtaking in city conditions.
- Top Speed: About 140 km/h – Suitable for highway cruising, though best enjoyed at moderate speeds for comfort.
- ARAI Mileage: 18.57 kmpl – Impressive for a 7-seater automatic, helping keep running costs low.
- Real-World Mileage: 13-16 kmpl – Actual mileage depends on driving style, traffic, and load, but remains competitive in its class.
Driving Dynamics
Ride Quality and Handling
- Front Suspension: McPherson strut with lower transverse link – Absorbs bumps and potholes well, ensuring passenger comfort.
- Rear Suspension: Twist beam with coil spring – Designed to handle the extra weight of passengers or cargo in the rear.
- Brakes: Disc (front), drum (rear) – Provides reliable stopping power; the front discs help with effective braking under load.
- Steering: Electric power-assisted – Light and responsive, making parking and low-speed maneuvers effortless.
- Turning Radius: 4.6 metres – Tight enough for U-turns and navigating narrow city lanes.
Everyday Usability
- Creep Function: The CVT allows the car to move slowly without throttle input, which is a boon in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
- Stability: The car feels stable at city speeds and can handle highway cruising comfortably, though overtaking at high speeds requires planning due to the modest engine output.
- Visibility: Large windows and mirrors provide excellent all-round visibility, making it easy to drive and park.
Interior and Comfort
Cabin Layout and Space
- Seating: 7 seats arranged in a 2+3+2 format – The third row is best for children or short trips, but folding it creates a large, flat cargo area.
- Upholstery: Durable fabric seats with adjustable headrests – Designed for comfort and easy cleaning.
- Driver’s Seat: Height adjustable – Helps drivers of different statures find a comfortable position.
- Second Row: 60:40 split-folding – Adds flexibility for carrying passengers and cargo together.
- Third Row: Foldable – When not in use, it can be folded down to maximize boot space.
Features and Amenities
- Infotainment: 7-inch touchscreen system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay – Keeps everyone entertained and connected on the go.
- Audio: Bluetooth, USB, and AUX connectivity – Multiple options for music and hands-free calling.
- Power Windows: Available for both front and rear passengers – Enhances convenience for all occupants.
- Air Conditioning: Manual with heater – Effective cooling for the front two rows, though the third row gets less airflow.
- Rear Charging Sockets: Useful for charging devices during long journeys.
- Keyless Entry & Central Locking: Adds a layer of convenience and security.
- Parking Sensors: Rear sensors help prevent minor bumps while reversing.
- Storage: Ample bottle holders, cup holders, and cubby spaces throughout the cabin.
Technology and Connectivity
- Touchscreen Infotainment: Responsive and easy to use, with clear graphics and intuitive menus.
- Bluetooth & USB: Ensures seamless connectivity for calls and music streaming.
- Digital Instrument Cluster: Displays essential driving information such as speed, fuel level, and gear position.
- Rear Parking Sensors: Make reversing in tight spots much less stressful.
- Power Outlets: Both front and rear outlets cater to the needs of all passengers.
Safety
Protection and Assistance
- Airbags: Dual front airbags provide basic protection for the driver and front passenger.
- ABS with EBD: Standard across the range, helping maintain control during sudden braking.
- Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC): Enhances stability on slippery surfaces or during sharp maneuvers.
- Rear Parking Sensors: Standard, aiding in safe reversing.
- Seat Belt Reminders: Alerts for front occupants to buckle up.
- Engine Immobilizer: Protects against theft.
- Speed-Sensing Door Locks & Crash Sensor: Add to the vehicle’s safety credentials.
- Follow-Me-Home Headlamps: Illuminate your path after locking the car in dark areas.
Ownership Experience
Practicality and Flexibility
- Flexible Seating: The 7-seat layout is perfect for large families or those who occasionally need to carry more people. With the third row folded, the boot becomes impressively large for luggage or shopping.
- Running Costs: The efficient engine and simple mechanicals keep maintenance affordable. Routine servicing is straightforward, and spare parts are generally easy to source.
- Reliability: The car is known for its mechanical durability, and the CVT transmission is low-maintenance compared to other automatics.
After-Sales Support
- Warranty: Generally 2 years/unlimited km, but check with your local dealer for details.
- Service Network: Supported by Nissan, which ensures coverage in most urban and semi-urban regions. However, Datsun’s exit from the Indian market may impact long-term parts availability and resale value.
Pros and Cons
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
Affordable 7-seater with automatic option | Third row cramped for adults |
Smooth CVT transmission | Modest highway performance |
Good fuel efficiency for its class | Interior plastics could be improved |
Flexible cargo space | Lacks advanced safety features |

Light steering and easy maneuverability | No rear AC vents |
Comparison with Rivals
The Datsun GO Plus T (O) CVT’s main competitors are the Renault Triber, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and for five-seat alternatives, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR AMT. While the GO Plus is one of the most budget-friendly 7-seater automatics, rivals like the Triber offer more features and a more premium interior, albeit at a slightly higher price.
Conclusion
The Datsun GO Plus T (O) CVT is a practical and affordable solution for families needing a flexible 7-seater with the convenience of an automatic gearbox. Its compact size, user-friendly features, and low running costs make it ideal for city life. While it may not have the most luxurious cabin or the latest in safety tech, it offers solid value for money. Prospective buyers should consider the impact of Datsun’s market exit on long-term support, but for those seeking a no-fuss, family-friendly MPV, the GO Plus T (O) CVT remains an appealing choice in its segment.

User Reviews for Datsun GO+
A Perfect Example of Disaster..
I am riding Datsun Go+ from last four months. It don't have that spark which other SUVs have. I regret my decision now. The good thing about this car is, it cost you less, backward slanted seats and the feel that you own a MUV, that's it. Exterior look is good no doubt but its 3rd row is just useless. My kids felt suffocated while seating there and slopping design of this MUV somehow make 3rd row passenger uncomfortable due to less headroom or uncomfortable seat. On the long distance travel, 3rd row become luggage room and my family fits in first two rows only. Moreover, adjusting the left ORVM is a pain for the driver, there is no adjustment stalks inside. The glass used at rear end appear large from outside but actually its 50% usable only. Even the legroom is just satisfactory at the 2nd row. So I would like to recommend here that don't go for this car because of low cost just expand your budget and buy other SUV.
