In an official statement regarding the action, the brand said, “As part of Nissan’s global transformation strategy, the company is focusing on core models and segments that bring the most benefit to customers, dealer partners and the business. Production of the Datsun Redigo has ceased at the Chennai plant. Sales of the model still continue (till the stock lasts).”

However, Nissan has guaranteed its current Datsun customers that they would continue to get servicing, aftermarket parts, and warranty services. Customers should be able to readily reach service touchpoints due to Nissan's robust network across the country. The company added, “We can reassure all existing and future Datsun owners that customer satisfaction remains our priority, and we will continue to provide the highest levels of after-sales service, parts availability, and warranty support from our national dealership network.\"

To jog your memory, Nissan rejuvenated the Datsun brand in India in 2013 after a long pause of 32 years when it was discontinued in the country. Datsun made the comeback with the launch of the entry-level hatchback “Go” and following that two other models called Redi-GO and compact multi-purpose vehicle Go+ were added to its lineup.

Although, the Datsun failed to carve its prominent place in the country’s highly competitive car markets. The compact car segment in the Indian market is dominated by the other Japanese and Korean brands like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

Nissan has officially discontinued the Datsun brand in India. After not getting expected success in its Datsun brand, Nissan decided to phase out it from the global markets like Russia and Indonesia in 2020 and now following that Datsun's India operations have also ceased after only a nine-year tenure. While the other models like Go and Go+ are already halted, the manufacturer has now confirmed that the Redi-GO’s production has also come to an end.
